The Slants Win Supreme Court Battle Over Band's Name In Trademark Dispute : The Two-Way : NPR

This is actually a huge deal with wide ranging implications from the name of the Washington Redskins to hypothetical hate speech laws people have discussed. Unanimous 8-0 decision that effectively eliminates the "offensive" exception from the First Amendment that was codified by the Lanham Act many, many decades ago. Taking the opinion of the court to its logical conclusion, the court ruled you can't legislate against speech deemed disparaging/offensive.

Unanimous verdict as well.

This has been pretty surreal to watch over the last year or so, Dave is a liberal who started out with the young turks... now he's becoming a target simply because he is willing to give people a chance to speak without screaming labels back at them.

ESPN literally just had a 10 minute segment on how terrible the decision was "legalizing hate speech"... and when Bob Ley brought up the recent WaPo poll saying 90% of Native Americans had no issue with the name Redskins the guy just yelled more and said the poll was flawed while providing no evidence of it being flawed.

PC tears are delicious.

People need to quit bitching about Gal Gadot's "small" paycheck for Wonder Woman. This isn't a feminist issue AT ALL. Do some damn research on first lead role salaries.

Or all those jackwads bitching about Joss Whedon's original script for WW, which NEVER EVEN CAME TO FRUITION. I'm truly convinced these people are never happy. EVER......

Speaking of Bob Ley:

He just said the Bears have mandated all season ticket holders who want to be on the pregame sidelines for special events cannot wear opposing team gear. Reminds me of the Seinfeld where Elaine wore an O's hat at Yankee Stadium.

I saw a post somewhere backing this up that she made approximately the same as Hemsworth in 1st Thor and Evans in 1st Cap Am movie.

Not linking because that was hours ago, can't find it, plus it didn't reference a link itself. Supposedly RDJ made more in 1st IM, but he was more known and it wasn't gobs more $

Seems like VF clearing the air on WW & GG

No, Gal Gadot Isn’t Making 46 Times Less Than Henry Cavill | Vanity Fair

Hollywood contracts are notoriously complicated things—salaries are often sweetened by box office bonuses, bumps in pay for sequels, or even “points” on the total gross for megastars. For superhero franchises just getting started, though, the process is usually simple: find a star on the rise, pay them relatively little, and then offer more if the franchise takes off. Marvel pioneered the effort with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth, all of whom were reportedly paid less than $500,000 for their first solo superhero outings, but eventually landed much bigger paydays for subsequent entries. (Downey Jr. famously made $50 million for The Avengers, and helped his co-stars negotiate higher salaries themselves.) Cavill, like Hemsworth and Evans and Gadot when their franchises started, was more of an unknown, and likely to have signed the same lowball salary contract with a promise of future returns.

I had originally seen $500K for RDJ, $300K for Evans and $200K for Hemworth, fyi

People keep pointing to Cavill's Man of Steel salary ($14M) and claiming "Gender Wage Gap! See!" But even the slightest Google search shows that Cavill's salary is an extreme outlier and that Gadot's salary is pretty much on par with other first time lead role salaries.

I saw someone posted a twitter rant from a feminist yesterday regarding Father's Day. That stuff needs to stop. There are legit reasons to be pro-feminists. These are not reasons and in fact this wolf-crying only belittles actual, real-life struggles.

Who wants to live in a world where saying things simply deemed "innappropriate" and not threatening is able to be prosecuted? I know I don't.

Actually, if you go to her original tweet and read the thread, she keeps trying to defend herself from other people's responses. It is interesting.

UD cuts ties with professor who said Warmbier 'deserved' to die

Professor lost her job for saying the kid from Ohio that died after being sent home from North Korea in a coma deserved his fate.

I *understand* the mindset that (1) if you visit North Korea and (2) violate ANY law at all, knowing the place you're in, you kind of had some shit coming... but for this lady to blame it on a vast generality of young, white, ignorant males that come into the classroom expecting everything to be handed to them is some shit.

She essentially said that he deserved to die for having white-male privilege, and because he allowed it to bite him in the ass. She also equated him thinking he could get away with stealing propaganda to young white males who get away with rape.

The kid MONUMENTALLY f*cked up by going to North Korea in the first place, and then f*cked up even harder by trying to steal their propaganda.

But he didn't deserve to have his brains scrambled, and he didn't deserve to die.

(There's also some really interesting conspiracy stuff that can be argued about the kid's demise, but perhaps it's too soon for that)
