If you go to an action movie based on comic book characters expecting art, then your expectations for the genre are too high IMO. I personally wouldn't go into something like SS ready for a life changing experience.

*I personally don't like any of the DC movies (Batman series included), so understand why it might have fell flat. DC can fuck up a wet dream.

That'd be fine if three out of four movies didn't fit that genre or something very much like it...

I know, I'm a cynical a hole, but f all these movies....

I TOTALLY agree with you. Damned dangerous letting a guy speak on campus when he might challenge the students' biases, beliefs, or ideas and get them so upset that they pull fire alarms to stop him from continuing, or they riot because they disagree with his words and feel attacked. I'd just throw one of those #safespace thingies at him and tell him, "No sir! Our students know what to think and we don't need you challenging them and putting ideas in their head!" Much, much better to play it safe and bring in a terrorist sympathizer, a BLM organizer, or a radical feminist who'll tell them what they want to hear and cause no problems.

When the Vagina Monologues causes riots and massive protest, then it has my disapproval as well. If it causes undue issues for the university, then that's their right to manage public safety and discourse.

Also, I've asked you not to converse with me. I don't come to IE to chat with Bama fans. If someone else wants to, more power to them. But I don't really have any interest in having interactions with you. Thanks.

That's completely backwards. When there's a riot, you blame the rioters. Not the people they're rioting against.

FWIW, neither Shapiro nor Milo have ever been rioted against to my knowledge. The closest would be when Milo himself was assaulted by BLM at, guess where? DePaul.

This is so contrary to the mission of higher education...and so predictably antithetical to creating capable adults I seriously wonder how this can be looked at as anything but capitulation to the weak and awkward as a show of empathy...

Toughen up, man. It's a discussion about politics, social issues, news, and etc. If you post opinions, they'll get criticized or challenged. That's the nature of such a discussion. If you can't handle it, stick to gentler threads or end all your posts with #safespace so we'll know not to challenge you and hurt your feelings.

Blow me. I don't have to toughen up and debate with a Bama fan on a site I go to in order to hang out with my Notre Dame friends. I don't get your apparent sense of entitlement to our site. Nor do I get why someone would spend all of their time on an unrelated teams forum discussing politics. Get a fucking life, man.

Is this where I'm supposed to mumble "roll Tide"?

Sad that this is even an article, but..... http://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-08-05/eeoc-harassment-ruling-on-gadsden-flag-is-right

Is it racial harassment in the workplace to display the yellow “Don’t tread on me” flag? The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says that it could be, depending on the context. The commission acknowledged that the Gadsden flag, which dates back to the era of the American Revolution, did not have racist origins. But it called for a careful investigation to see whether recent uses of the flag have been sufficiently “racially tinged” that it could count as harassment.

But there seems to be no dispute that the flag, as used by the Marines and others in the Revolutionary War, was a message to King George, and had nothing to do with slavery or racism per se.

In his complaint to the EEOC, the anonymous writer objected to a co-worker wearing a hat bearing the flag “because the flag was designed by Christopher Gadsden, a ‘slave trader & owner of slaves.’”

On its own, that’s a pretty weak argument. The fact that a slave owner created a symbol doesn’t mean that symbol is racist. The Constitution itself, after all, was designed in large part by slave owners.

But the complainant added the assertion that the flag has come to be “a historical indicator of white resentment against blacks stemming largely from the Tea Party.” He pointed out that the “Vice President of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters cited the Gadsden Flag as the equivalent of the Confederate Battle Flag when he successfully had it removed from a New Haven, Connecticut fire department flagpole.”

The commission concluded that despite the original meaning of the flag, and despite the many nonracist contemporary uses, nevertheless the flag today is “sometimes interpreted to convey racially-tinged messages in some contexts.” As an example the commission gave a June 2014 shooting in Las Vegas, where white supremacists “draped the bodies of two murdered police officers with the Gadsden flag.”

Consequently, the commission called for an investigation of the specific complaint’s context to see if workplace racism was in play.

This is getting to be a bit too much. Anyone can look at certain symbols and conclude something that the vast majority of people would say is nonsense. For example, if someone displays a picture of a raised fist at their desk (a symbol of BLM), could a white person feel harassed because someone on twitter used BLM as a way to convey hate towards white people? This gets really messy since the symbol in question isn't racist per se, but one person views at such. At the same time, the person displaying the flag could be doing it for an innocent reason. What is an employer to do? Simple, don't allow people to display anything. Trying to predict what objects could, and could not, be perceived as "threatening" is impossible b/c the employer has no idea what each person will think. What a mess.

Ya know...I was looking at my individual serving of Mott's Applesauce with Cinnamon and I thought to myself it could sometimes be interpreted to convey racially-tinged messages in some contexts.

This is overt racism. Can you imagine someone saying "you, Chinese American person, should only put money in banks owned by other Chinese Americans. It's unacceptable that you put money in a bank owned by someone of another race."

Killer Mike Challenges Michael Jordan: Send Air Jordan Profits to Black-Owned Bank - Atlanta Black Star

The world is beyond fucked when people are lauding the ideas of segregation and racism like we're starting to see regularly.

The Killer Mike guy is a real intellectual. I like how the media made him out to be a voice of reason because he supported the socialist from Brooklyn.

Things like this bother me though.

Kind of directed at this post but kind of a general statement"

I believe that the PC crowd has gotten out of control.

I also believe that the anti-PC crowd is now getting out of control.

Just as the PC crowd is overly sensitive to what is said, the anti-PC crowd is swing to the complete other end of the pendulum. What we need to do is find a middle ground.
