I want Coach to play the whole "first" team (except Claypool) the whole first half (including the normal rotations), and spend the entire time concentrating on what we AREN'T yet doing well. That includes lots of running and lots of Book throwing quick across the middle. SMOOTH THE DAMM OFFENSE OUT!!! The parts we actually want to use.

I agree, I just hope they don't overthink it, a la Ball St last year when they clearly told Wimbush to ignore his biggest strength by not scrambling, and seemingly forcing him to stay behind the LOS and throw the ball downfield. I get it, you were trying to build the kid's confidence up throwing the ball against an inferior opponent, but to me this is the biggest reason BSU hung around.

For Book, I just want to see him have a much better pocket presence and go through his progressions. He seems to be looking at his primary target, and then bailing.

If BVG plans on bringing pressure to make him uncomfortable, hope to see Book poised and hit Kmet & Tremble on quick dumps &/or seam routes, and want to see the RBs/OL execute screen plays better to counter attack those blitzes.

^^I'm all for testing out different things and working on items that haven't worked well in the previous games that you need to iron out.

But put the game away first then start tinkering with stuff. Grant it you can still kill them while tinkering but the example above with BSU proved that wasn't the smart thing to do.

You can't lose a game and say no big deal we were just working on getting some things straightened out so don't count that against us.

We have a better idea of his defensive philosophies (if those exist) then he probably does of our offensive ones. We could probably give him a script of our first 20 plays, and he still wouldnt be able to stop them. I'm not concerned about this causing us problems.
I didn't think I needed the italics.

Kelly also got jokes!

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Brian Kelly asked about “hiccups” on special teams.<br><br>"I would have used another letter to start that. Finishes the same way."</p>— Pete Sampson (@PeteSampson_) <a href="https://twitter.com/PeteSampson_/status/1178706682979012609?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 30, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

BK is a funny guy. Always has been.

I'd kick my sister in the head to split a case of Miller Lite with him.

Is Van Gorder lost? He used to be a pretty good coach at one point, right? I’m not one to kick a guy when he is down, but I wonder how he has evolved to this point and whether he can turn it around (just not this Saturday).

But that FCS game was their lone win! They only gave up 3 points in that one, you can't filter that out. Truth be told, Bowling Green should probably be an FCS team themselves. They're not even MAC caliber these days. They had a few good teams back around 2015, but since then they've been hot garbage.

Part of me feels a little bad for BVG. Bowling Green isn't going to save his career, and the one year he got at Louisville they were starting with one of the youngest defenses in college football. On the other hand, at Notre Dame he had a fine collection of athletes to work with and he was only able to put together maybe half a season of greatness. When you see what Elko and Lea have done in less time the other side of me doesn't feel the same sympathy.

I tried and tried to think the best I could for Van Gorder when he was here, but one game I just couldn't anymore. Things were going from worse to worse late in the season, when our defense had a huge embarrassing gash. As the opponent offense ran down the field, the camera rapidly picked up Van Gorder in obvious extreme anguish and confusion. You could read his lips clearly. They were shouting "WHAT HAPPENED?!!!!"

I thought: any DC remotely on the ball would have known what just happened. ........ loyalty switch: flip to off.

Is BVG going to get booed when he takes the field? His kid would be a decent QB if we still had him. what did we pay BVG and how does it compare with Elko and Lea? Not only did BVG set us back years he got paid a lot to do it and then got paid when he got appropriately canned. Add that to his "I'm too good" to hustle on the recruiting trail and he is worth a rousing boooo.

BVG made over a million dollars. He did not make more than Elko, and he did not make more than Lea currently makes.

I would not boo BVG, because it's not his fault the school/Kelly were stupid and hired him. But yeah... he was an unmitigated disaster.

Lax, would you run up the score against BVG?

I think Kelly would take his foot off the gas in the 40's and if his team is scoring on basic running plays with his seconds and third strngers in there he will accept TD's up to the high 60's. I will say that Kelly and ND have not been the kind of team that will kick a team when they're down. With that said I would like to 70 plus especially on BVG.

I'd go up by 35 with the starters, hopefully as early as possible, then toss the backups in to get them game reps. If we score another 35 at that point, it's on Bowling Green for giving up points to 2nd and 3rd stringers (I'd continue running the offense as normal of course, no pulling punches, otherwise why play the backups other than injury concerns?).

is there a prediction thread for this game that I have been missing? Or do we just not do those for games where we are favored by 40+?

Agree. Given their results thus far, if we're haven't scored 28 by half, we've got serious issues.

Crus should get his wishes, and see plenty of PJ in the 3 and 4Q.

I could see Book lighting it up tomorrow afternoon and the narrative would be "It was just BGSU"

I could see PJ lighting it up tomorrow and fueling the push to have PJ start over Book.

We will see, but can't have your cake and eat it too. Hope PJ plays a ton but there is nothing to really look into here except for seeing 2nd and 3rd stringers getting some live action.

I was to see Mick Assaf get a 4th quarter TD so bad. Dude is cracking me up with the "Mick's Mickstapes" videos on ND's Youtube channel.

Gonna get ugly early,... I hope Bowling Green shows some class and doesn’t run the score up too much on us.

Here we go Lads and Lassies!!

This game intrigues me. Do we see a lot of Phil? Do we have an opportunity to cover?

Cheers and Go Irish!!
