Aggressiveness on offense was great to see 3 4th down attempts. 2012, we knew we had a good defense and we acted as such. We still know we got one but we are getting after teams offensively

I said I wouldn’t but....... that was good defense except for Troy Pride was absolutely terrible. Didn’t even seem like he wanted to play. Actually happened more than one would like last night. Something needs to happen there.

I meant Jafar but point still stands, let’s not jinx the kid ;)

I know what you meant ;) I'm just using Dexter as an example of what evil the "Bod Squad" curse can inflict. Some players like Redfield and GB (RIP) never recover.

The really crazy thing about this is that TP seems to be a guy that likes to hit people and make them feel his presence. He didn't do that Saturday...that was odd.

Not much of a shock but OL was good in the run game. A lot of movement up front. Playing against undersized guys probably helped but still good to see.

The run blitzing linebacker that crashed the backfield in the space when our guards pulled still concerns me. We run a lot of pulling guards with slow developing run plays and aggressive defensive schemes have picked up on that (i.e. Pitt, Ball State, 1st half VT). That's what has me feeling cautious for all the remaining games. I know FSU is having a down year but athletes are still athletes. Same with USC - they will play with passion if they think they can keep us from a playoff spot.

I see the effectiveness of a stretch run with pulling guards to the field side of the play and I wonder why we don't run it more. Lack of athleticism from our guards? Hopefully we can see Banks leading the way on some of these runs.

I haven’t re-watched but were Pride’s miscues only in the 2nd half or did he struggle the entire game? I’m wondering if they didn’t come out w/ a 4 TD lead in the 2H and feel like they could put it on cruise control and avoid injuries...esp after seeing their captain go down to what appeared to be a serious injury in real time.

And add the fact that he's recently come back from an ankle injury.

possibly... I wasn't able to watch the entire game but during the second half any time I'd sit down we seemed very slow (both in terms of reaction time and literal speed) and just not all there...

Is Navy a team that ND should beat every season? Yes
Should ND continue scheduling Navy every season if the goal is CFP? No, not IMO.

After the first attempted missed tackle by Pride, not even sure if I can call it an attempt of a tackle it was more of a flailing push that missed everything, the coaches should have benched him for the remainder of the game and input Vaughn or Bracy. It was the worst attempt of a tackle i have ever seen from a Notre dame player. And that is saying a lot considering an injured Farley fell on his ass and tried a seated tackle once and Jalen Eliot has had a few really bad whiffs. But Troy Pride was the worst, it wasn't even an attempt at a tackle.

Missed most all the game because of a Halloween party, haven't been able to find replay online, if anyone can let me know.

Hopefully the days of ND curb stomping Navy each and every year is upon us. Because I don't see this ever being a topic of discussion between both schools. It's every year and that's that.

The thing I don't like is on top of playing Navy every year, they schedule one of Army/Air Force every so many years. Don't like seeing multiple triple options in one year.

Ideally - I would love it if ND alternated the armed services academies.
Navy year 1-Army year 2-Air Force year 3-Navy year 4-etc.

How long did it take you to figure out you needed to stand all the time?

Comments are spot on. I was at the game and had a clear view of the flailed attempt. Don't know if he was off balance but PKs and punter do a way better job of tackling or trying to tackle. That number 10 was badass and would do great things for ND. Maybe he can transfer next. Would have liked to see if ND could run one jet sweep with Avery just to test the boundary. The end around was a nice wrinkle but would like to see Austin get the ball as he looks faster than Jafar. Austen is the future #1 WR<

Agree about everything. Austin has more speed and wiggle then I thought he did coming out of high school. With his size he is going to be a straight up stud.

And yes that Perry kid for Navy can play. Wouldn’t mind him playing slot for ND.

or to get thru the 45 minute line just to get into one of what appeared to be only one of two open gates! That stadium did not have their schitt together to handle a sell out crowd. Lucky for them ND and Navy fans are civil. walked thru the tunnel to catch the opening kickoff. Check out the empty seats to start the game. That was on the inept stadium planning.

BTW.....IT's Third Down!!!!!

Not much of a shock but OL was good in the run game. A lot of movement up front. Playing against undersized guys probably helped but still good to see.

Book did some really nice things. His first down throw to Claypool from the far hash was a great read. Didn’t have it left, immediately went to the next read, rolled out and first down. Impressive arm strength on that pass.

Jafar gets upfield in a hurry. Because of injury I’m not sure he’s getting the attention he deserves. He’s good.

LL - how much do you think it's that the OL is starting to gel, and the Banks insertion was a good thing, and how much do you think it was the OL going up against smaller guys?

Rewatching now (just got done with 1H). Loved book hitting Claypool, but hated that he missed Finke on a third and long to start the 2Q. Finke was probably his 3rd or 4th option, and was on the opposite side, but he was wide open and crossing back.

WRs - i really love the all around sure handedness of this group, since Book took over. I think they are really benefiting and growing from the improved accuracy. Love what they are doing after the catch. Claypool is just one example of guys catching it, and fighting for YAC. The incompletion over the top to Armstrong for a likely TD was not what I originally thought. He was tied up and pushed off the route, not able to get back to the ball.

I'd like to see Austin get more targets in Finke-like routes. Finke is doing fantastic (don't get me wrong), but I think Austin creates more space, and would turn some of those into increased YAC. Love the passing to Jafar as well. He brings such versatility.

TEs - I saw where someone was calling for more passes to Kemet, and less to Mack. I'd actually like to see Mack get some of the play calls or routes that Kemet is getting (like the one in the late 2Q). Both are catching just about everything thrown to them, but it seems like Mack is getting tossed to more in traffic.

RBs - There should be zero doubt who is RB1 at this point. I would have like to see more TJJr, and keep Dex under 20. Was trying to zero in on his blocking (based on BK's comments), and I hope his improvement translates into good blocking on some of the bigger guys/teams that we face down the stretch. Like what I'm seeing with Dex getting more passing targets. What I feared as a problem to start the season, has turned into a great situation with Dex/Jafar/TJJr. I'm already missing Dex thinking about next year. Hoping CBo has the same/similar stuff, as I think he's about the closest to Dex in speed/traits.

Only criticism from me to this point is the offensive play calling is a bit predictable. With that said, score here and get the starters out.

how Is offensive play calling predictable when you're showing a read option 90% of the time>? 50-50? I just wish bama had players less than half of 50 years old.

Is the above a product of Kmet doing a better job of getting open, or maybe it's strictly a personnel/packaging issue? Maybe the defense is more focused on Alize when he's in over Kmet because they think he'll do more damage after the catch?

It seems to me that Kmet is getting more streak or post routes, where as Alize is getting more flat and quick out calls. I only started paying attention later, but that's what it "felt" like. I think Alize would likely get more separation on streak and post. Instead, it's like he's getting short or medium sideline shots. I do think Alize probably gets more defensive focus from DBs, whereas Kmet is getting more from LBs.

All I know is that I hate the pass to the TE in the flat. The TE (usually Mack) always gets chopped down immediately and it's a one yard gain max.

I notice that too, I also think Mack needs to turn up field he always seems to keep running east and west
