I still have not beaten Dead Island or Skyrim... I will one day but finding time is very difficult to do.

Dead Island got very repetitive, I finished it but it took all of my strength and will to do so

WWE 2k16 is a major upgrade, did not let me down... only problem thus far is no 4 man and larger elimination match in any form other than six man elimination chamber... oh well.

I will say this to the person biting my avatar style... Piper was the greatest formula heel... meaning he did what everyone else did before and after him but did so better... nothing new or exciting, totally thoughtless and formula driven... THE People's Heel did what had never been done before, setting a completely new standard that has never been met,...he done changed the game.

Orly?

piperheadshot.gif

Piper wrote the book on cutting a promo, and he's one of the most controversial and innovative figures in wrestling history. Piper didn't really have writers writing for him back in the day, just about everything he said he came up with. This was even true in some of his movies. His now famous line from They Live: "I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum" was something he wrote down in a notebook for future wrestling material and director John Carpenter wanted him to use it, to which it was later reused by Duke Nukem. Piper's Pit was an innovative interview segment that was unlike others before it, and many wrestlers have borrowed from that formula for years, all the way down to Jericho.

There's also this to consider....without Piper, there's no Hulkamania. While slamming Andre was a big part of Hogan's rise, without Piper to play the Ying to Hogan's Yang then Hulkamania may have never taken off like it did and maybe wrestling never really hits the mainstream. Not just in the ring, but outside the ring. Piper was also the heel to Hogan in the Rock 'N Wrestling cartoon which turned a whole generation of kids onto the WWF.

From Piper's Wiki:
Piper is considered one of the greatest talkers and heels in wrestling history. Piper's Pit interview segments were considered innovative, especially in an atmosphere where only the people like the world champion got to talk, and the wrestlers were the interviewees—never the interviewers. Many of the people on Piper's Pit never got to be world champion, but were main eventers. According to Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, he could just leave Piper in a room and return twenty minutes later with Piper having done a class-A promo.[83] WWE named him the greatest villain in wrestling history.[9]

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter described Piper as "one of the key figures in the growth of WWF. In particular, he helped power the success of the first WrestleMania: the most important show in company history"

RIP Roderick Toombs

WWE 2k16... here's what I'm doing with my Universe... with over 130 guys in this game there is more than enough to create three separate shows that are exclusive to themselves... so I deleted Raw, Superstars and NXT, Kept Smackdown (Where's that show named after a Piper catchphrase??)

Then created Raw is War in place of Raw(they have all the old school rings and logos in game to do this)

and a generic pre attitude era WWF with all the old logos on Wednesday night in place of Superstars...

I took every current guy and put them just on Smackdown, all the attitude era guys and put them just on Raw is War (Christian, Jericho and Mark Henry etc. are the few on both), then took all the classic guys, Flair, MDM, Warrior, Sr. Slaughter etc. and put them on the old school Wednesday night show... Each show will have their own era specific titles, rivalries and stables....

Then for each monthly PPV I'll have two random shows play a part with one sitting out... then for Summer Slam, The Rumble and Wrestlemania I'll have the shows actually interact and have matches against each other... which will provide the biggest moments/ chances to unify belts... should be pretty fun as my wife, myself and my eldest daughter can then take a wrestler from each show and roll with it.

Can someone convince me that I should buy a current-gen console and, if so, which?

Related: Is Star Wars: Battlefront really going to be online-only? I'll never play enough video games to advance beyond cannon fodder for people who play hardcore online, and I don't especially feel like paying for an annual subscription to Xbox Live or whatever.

I held out for a long time, but I finally upgraded to a next-gen system and went with a PS4. You can't play online for free anymore, but if you get a year's subscription to Playstation Plus it's just $50 and you also get free games and extras monthly (Some are crappy, some are decent) as well as discounts on other games and media like movies. They've also got some cool apps that you can run in the background, like Spotify. I love being able to stream my own playlist in the background while I'm playing a game...sometimes a game's soundtrack can get boring after you've heard it enough times. I kinda wish I would have gotten one earlier, I always used to have systems at launch, but kids have put a hamper on my gaming budget.

The way I understand it, there will be missions to play through as a single player, but they will not actually be presented as a full story/campaign.

I think I read somewhere that there might also be a "survival" type of mode like in some of the CoD games, where bots spawn in progressive waves and you can fight them off yourself or with friends in a cooperative setting. That part might just be speculation though.

Anyway, I downloaded Outlast for free a long while back... just now getting into it for Halloween... this game is seriously one of the scariest games/books/movies/anything I've dealt with, I've had to put it down and take a moment a few times.. my wife and 12 year old have watched me play and both have been like, "Oh, hell no!"

I don't think so, I had to sign up for Playstation Plus to play Payday 2 on PS4, which was free to play online on PS3: Nine Things You Should Know About the PlayStation 4 :: Games :: Lists :: Paste

It's cheaper than X-Box Live Gold though, and it has some very nice benefits with it. It also does the Cloud storage for you (Presumably automatically with some games, as I found out when my son pulled my PS4 off the table and I had to get it serviced) so it will backup your saved games in case you lose them or have to wipe your hard drive for some reason.

The cloud thing is true, my ps4 auto clouds my save files constantly (it gives a little update in the corner when it finishes).. nice to know.

side note: I need to expand the size of my ps4 as with just a handfull of free downloaded games I'm about full... what's the best way to increase the memory on this bad boy??

I've heard you can't use an external drive, so you have to upgrade the internal hard drive which isn't difficult at all. I upgraded my PS3 from an 80GB drive to a 500GB drive and it was very painless. I looked into the same procedure for my PS4, although since it's pretty new I haven't had to actually pursue it yet:

Is 80GB even an option anymore? Everything I see out there looks like 500GB or bigger.

It was for my PS3. I haven't had to upgrade my PS4 yet, but I know I will have to eventually cause I'm a game hoarder. I have one of the original PS3's with backwards compatibility, pretty sure those were in either 40 GB or 80 GB sizes originally.

Xbox gold offers free games monthly, but it is $10 more expensive than playstation plus.

I missed out on getting Tomb Raider for free in september. Still bummed about that.

What's the quality of the Xbox free games versus PS4 free games? I'd make my decision based on which offers better content than whether I'd save $10 a year.

I think what I'm likely to end up doing is looking for a steal around Black Friday. If I could get a PS4 bundle around $250, I'd jump on that.

I'd imagine they're pretty similar. I know the Xbox program, Games with Gold, offers two titles for XB1 and two titles for XB360 per month. They usually offer at least one "full" title, and then three smaller games, generally small adventure/arcade style. Sometimes they offer more than one "full" title.

The other catch is that XB1 will begin rolling out backwards compatibility in mid November. So their Games with Gold program will offer essentially four free games per month, as well as decent value on 360 titles that you might want to pick up to use on your XB1.

*I used to be a Playstation guy, and harbor no animosities whatsoever in either direction. I can only speak on XB1 really, and I don't know if PS4 has backwards compatibility like XB1 or not. In no way, shape, or form do I intend for this to be "XB1 is better!!!!11!"

I'm the same, I prefer ps system because the red light of death hit me many times on 360 and left a slightly bitter taste and MLB The Show is only on PS.. I'm a huge baseball guy. It also helps that all of my gaming buddies are PS owners also.

So when you say "full" games, you mean actual XB1 or PS4 games, not some Sega Genesis game they ported to a next-gen platform? That's fairly awesome.

I'm going to hang on to my 360 anyways, so backwards compatibility of games isn't a big issue for me. My family and I like to bang out some Beatles Rock Band every now and then, but I don't care enough to shell out for next-gen RB4 with all new instrument peripherals.

Yeah I got RRoD four times. They fixed/refurbished my first one for free. Sent me a completely new one after the second time. The third time I got it, I broke the warranty and fixed it myself. Worked well for another year and then bit the dust again. Rather than get a third Xbox and risk the same issues in the future, I switched to PS3. I thought I'd be Sony for life after that, but then Titanfall and Halo looked sweet... so I switched once I upgraded.

I still have my PS3 because of NCAA14, and I also have some way older games for it stockpiled to play some day when I'm super bored and/or with my kids.

Yeah full games. I guess PS Plus and Games with Gold are very similar (which makes sense), because last month you could get the full Tomb Raider game (the first "new gen" Tomb Raider, not the new one that's out soon) for XB1 just like you could on PS Plus. They also had the first season of The Walking Dead game available for free on XB1. 360 had a Metal Gear Solid game available.

Yeah right now PS Plus has a bunch of zombie stuff for major discount or free... Dead Rising 2, Resident Evil games, Zombie Apocalypse, Dead Nation... they're all either 75% off or free if i remember correctly...

I need to start checking up on stuff more so I can spot these deals on XBox.

The problem is that stuff just piles up and goes unplayed because I don't devote time like I used to. I have Elder Scrolls: Oblivion still in the plastic wrap for PS3 that I need to play. I was planning on doing that over the Christmas break, but then I remembered that Battlefront and Halo will be out by then.

So if I get Battlefront, which system will allow me to play with more of you a-holes?

Separately: Why don't we have platform-agnostic multiplayer? Seems pretty simple. Mac and PC users can play shit like WoW together.

I think hardware specifications make the way the games run just a bit different on separate systems, which prevents online crossover. I still don't think it would be that difficult though. Probably more just because they are competitors and would never work together on it.

As for next gen systems, I don't think we've had an actual role-call.
