Why in the world would you do this?

It actually makes a lot of sense. Instead of a bye week during the season, they essentially take the bye before the conference championship game. Giving them an extra week to prepare.

I didn't think of it that way. I was just thinking it doesn't give your players fighting nagging injuries during the season to get rested up.

It's a double edged sword for sure. Brilliant move if you make the conference championship, but you gotta get there for it to even matter.

I don't think they will have a problem with that though.

every year one pac12 has to go without a bye. its a quirk of their schedule i guess. Arizona was the team last season.

Sadly we don't really affect USC's chances of going to the PAC12 championship if we beat them (Unless their schedule comes down to tied conference schedules with someone else). It would feel nice to keep them out with a win. It's nice we get a BYE again before this game, we've done well against the Trojans each year we've had one.

Already booked my Hotel in SB for this game. Did so in early January. Now just hoping two tickets won't cost me $1000!

Road Trip Ranking: 1- Notre Dame

The Obvious: In the third road game of the season and the eighth game overall, the Trojans travel back to the Midwest for the nation’s most treasured intersectional rivalry – Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana on Oct 21.

The Not So Obvious: This is the mother of all road games – The Notre Dame Weekender. Most Trojans stay in Chicago and try to arrive on Thursday in time for Friday’s noontime pep rally at the Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. Yes, Dr. Bartner, the Trojans Marching Band, The Song Girls, and massive turnout of Trojans fans will all be there. Literally upwards of 10,000 Trojans make the trip, and you can see many of them either at the rally or walking the famous Miracle Mile in downtown Chicago. The restaurants – sports hangouts like Harry Carey’s or Ditka’s – are great. Some Trojans fans prefer to stay just a night in Chicago and spend Friday and Saturday night in South Bend or in the general vicinity. The Notre Dame Friday night pep rally in anticipation of the hated Trojans is a gas. FYI, the drive from Chicago to South Bend is about an hour and a half, and it’s really a relaxing ride once you leave the outskirts of the Windy City. BTW, Chicago is on Central Time, which means it’s an hour behind South Bend time.

Comment: Simply put, this is the best of the best of roads trips. It’s everything you could want, including staying in Chicago, which is a great city for fun. If you can get a ticket to the game, you have to go!

The Not So Obvious: Keep in mind that if the Trojans win and win and are ranked near or at the top, away game tickets will be scarce as will hotels and plane flights. You can take that to the bank. Don’t be caught looking from the outside in.

Rose Bowl kicking hero out because of ongoing student conduct issue | CollegeFootballTalk

What was rumored a few months ago has been confirmed.

In early February, USC announced that an unspecified code of conduct issue had led the football program to indefinitely suspend Matt Boermeester. At the time, reports had an incident involving the placekicker’s ex-girlfriend as the trigger for the suspension, although no details surrounding that situation were released.

Fast-forward to late July, and the school officially confirmed that Boermeester is no longer a Trojan.

“Boermeester… won’t return because of a student code of conduct issue,” the football program wrote in its preseason notes package.

In his first season as USC’s starting kicker last year, Boermeester connected on 75 percent of his 25 field goal attempts and all but one of his 54 point afters. His 46-yard field goal with no time left on the clock pushed USC past Penn State in an epic comeback win in the Rose Bowl.

The 18 field goals on which Boermeester connected in 2016 were one shy of tying the school’s single-season record.

Michael Brown is the only other kicker currently listed on USC’s online roster. Brown has yet to attempt a kick at the collegiate level.

Rumors out that Shea Patterson is thinking of transferring to USC. Personally I don't see it happening.

Who's ahead of him on the depth chart currently? Or just trying to get out before the sh*t at Ole Miss hits the fan?

Think he is trying to get out of the storm that's coming. Plus, if Ole Miss gets hit with another postseason ban to go with their self imposed ban this year, Patterson will never play in a bowl game if he stays. Gotta think that's driving it somewhat.

Sorry, didn't know where to ask. Who do I root for USC vs Stanford game this Saturday in southern cal? Is USC winning better for ND so Stanford can recover the rest of the season for ND last game? Or Stanford winning and just bc its beating USC? I hate both, schedule wise what would be best case scenario for the Irish?

Yeah, have to go w/ Stanford this weekend. IF ND is in the playoff hunt, huge if, and it comes down to the last game of the season for style points you want Stanford undefeated to give ND a huge boost.

Stanford vs SC = UM vs OSU = FSU vs the U = Bama vs any of the prior six teams = Yankees vs Red Sox = Packers vs Vikings = Trump vs Clinton = a Lakers or UK inter-squad game.

Some contests have no good outcome cuz someone's gonna win.

The fact people are even debating this is a testament to how far the Stanford program has come, and how much of a monumental pain in the ass they have in turn become.
