You must not have watched the BC at Clemson game. The final score wasn't close, but that was not a "comfortable win" by any stretch.

In form it wasn't so different from the ND/BC game. I saw some ridiculous crap posted here at halftime when the outcome was still very much in doubt.

EDIT: Halfway through the third quarter ND was holding a one point lead. Then the Irish scored five touchdowns.

Pops is right. Style points matter in common opponent evaluation. ND's 21 pt victory was comfortable but they left a lot of spread on the table. If Clemson comes out now and lays a 30+ pt stompin' on NC St Saturday, that's a W for them in the ND-Clemson eval.

The final 6 ND drives of the NC St game (last drive of the 2nd Qtr and the 5 possessions of the 2nd Half) were 1 TD, 4 punts & game ended with a knee on the 5. You can't assume the committee is going to breakdown why the game wasn't 56-14.

ND needs to bury WF & Miami to guarantee a win in the common opponent comparison with Clemson.

If ND wins out regardless they are in IDC what happens, we could beat all 4 teams left by 1 point and we are in. BTW I don't think Clemson will beat NC State this week

Unfortunately you aren't on the board and it's not just about getting in, it's about seeding.

So this is where we're at... Forget making the playoffs, it's time to talk seeding my bruthas!

Mercy IFJ. I do not agree with that. ND has been dominating and they'll have continue that.

Look at coaches/AP-I don't like it but biases exist and the fact those polls are there to be seen can influence the committee somewhat. Hang 50 on WF and I'll be good.

I still think the committee will have ND at #3 Tuesday. I don't want to give them a reason to 2nd guess their opinion.

I actually agree with him. OSU and Wisconsin will have to play each other, so there goes one of them (probably Wisconsin). At that point, I’m not sure how we aren’t, at worst, ranked fourth. There would be room for Bama, UGA, B1G, ND. I’m not sure how anyone, even if we only skimmed by the rest of the way, could put Clemson or anyone else above us.

I honestly believe that we are already at the “win and you’re in” stage.

start winning close games and I believe that the committee can find an OSU (either one), PSU, or another 1 loss team to take ND's place. Not like the Irish haven't lost....

not that it matters, but did you predict Amway scam poll having the Irish at 8?

The same team that lost to an un-ranked Syracuse team......

Bama will play UGA in the SEC Champ. One will be out. Im guessing UGA. No way a loss that late in the game keeps you in the top four if the others win out.

OSU will be there because...they play absolutely no one and will crush an undefeated but cupcake schedule Wisconsin in the B10 Champ game which will get crazy phantom kudos there.

So if ND can take care of not choking against the teams it is supposed to win but could easily overlook (WF, Navy) they will be #2.

My bet

Bama vs OK (4)
ND (2) vs OSU (3)

GA vs PSU or would PSU still tie to the Rose and have to play USC?

I definitely don't think it can't not happen if everything that can't go right doesn't go wrong the right way.

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to ACamp Johnson for clearly stating what needed to be said.

I'm all for elimination losses and best losses but I keep getting told, "That's not how it works, that's not how any of it works."

I agree with everything but UGA. If they lose close to Bama, I think they will still be in. They would have beat us and Auburn and demolished everybody else. They would be deserving. If Bama loses, they could be sitting there with one loss, a loss I may add, might be to the only ranked team they played.

No offense man but everyone tuned you out after you dropped UGA because of a late loss.

I wish someone would explain it. Herbie and Fowler just this past weekend said the loss would matter

We definitely should not count on getting in over a 12-1 Georgia, under any circumstances.

At this rate, though, Big 12 and Pac 12 are going to play themselves out of it, with Clemson the only real playoff threat in the ACC, and the OSU-Wisconsin winner the only one in the Big 10. So the odds are in our favor even with two SEC teams in there.

First though, have to beat Wake Forest.

How do you mean?

I feel like big wins matter more than anything. Win your conference championship game. Win against a top ten team. Win against another playoff contender. Those things get you into the playoffs.

A "good loss" - like ours - shows you belong, but ultimately the team that beat you is going to win the argument for a playoff spot, all else being equal. A head-to-head victory is the fairest comparison you can have in college football. That's hard to argue with.

Someone posted a couple of weeks back how you're probably better off losing to the fourth best team you play than losing to the best team you play, because the best team is also going to be in the playoff mix. I think that's probably true. That's why Clemson and Oklahoma's losses, ironically, won't hurt as much as our loss and Ohio State's loss will. If it comes down to it, we'll have to hope our SOS outweighs that.

Every where I hear is to expect Ohio St to be ranked over Oklahoma tonight... I feel like we are assuming a lot of things but historically head to head hasn't mattered and Ohio ST got in last year without a conference championship

This is where the scrutiny gets big.. If we went up in top 6.. Every game from here on out will be watched with a fine tooth comb. Beat WF by only 10 while Clemson beats NC St by 30.. It will matter.

No way Clemson beats NCS by 30. No way.

Anyone know if their two injured DL will be back? Their RB will be back. They very well could be playing some pissed off ball and Clemson is just not that good.

Did both of these guys play last weekend? I guess I'm asking if they're new injuries, or if they've already been out and are just being ruled out yet again.
