What do you all think about BK's comments of "not dwelling on the past" in regards to the past Miami games and the rivalry? I kinda think the team should be. They should watch the 30 for 30 Catholics vs Convicts. They should hear Holtz say "After we kick their butts, you save Jimmy Johnson's ass for me". They should see the pregame fight. They should hear what the game meant in the past. Because Miami will be doing that. They will show up in the gold chains ready to play nasty. Our boys better be too.

I think the guys know that stuff is out there. They've heard it and if not people will be bringing it up to them and they have the web and social media. However, I don't think BK or the staff need to bring it up. I think he needs to keep them focused on the process like they have bought into every week this year. Every week is a playoff game. Every week we need to dominate if we want to move on. Miami was one of the few we beat last year. I think if anything from the past makes it into talking with the team is that we need to remember that and they may try to use that to get hyped. But they are not that same team anymore. WE are not that same team anymore. We are on a mission to win. Throw out the past, this is now. They are standing in the way of what we want, what we are trying to achieve. Attack and dominate them and after its over we can worry about the next team and let the media and the fans worry about history.

Edit...
Can Miami beat us, yes
Am I concerned, yes
However, I see them and some media pointing out just our last game. Our last game was no where near our best. We can and have played better and I hope we will Saturday night. I think if we stay focused on us and play well we can come out with a hard fought victory. I think it will be closer than most of ours so far, but believe we can do it. If Miami needs the hype, let them have it. When we still slam into their line over and over in the 3rd and 4th quarters, if they can still stop us every time than they deserve to win, but I think pounding the ball all night along with BW getting free a bit and his development as a passer gives us a hell of a shot to win.

Seeing a lot of speculation that the GameDay guest will be Pitbull. God I hate Miami.

My boss from Miami will be in town to work with me Wednesday through Friday. This should be fun!

Disagree. There was a significant racial component to that rivalry, at least as far as jokers like LeBatard are concerned. That's not something you want to introduce into the locker room.

Can you elaborate?

ANY win here is GREAT in the eyes of the Committee. ONE POINT is good enough. Let's play for a 40 point win, but one point keeps us in a solid third place in the ratings.

Miami is btw way pretty darn good, and a team which hasn't tasted losing yet at this stage of the season is hard to put down.

I'm just hoping for a truly healthy team to make the trip. If we have that, we look good --- in a war.

Ugh I hate Miami so much. JLo, A-Rod, and these people. Top two worst cities in America are Miami and LA, and I'm not sure what order.

The current line is that Miami is -3 to be the worse city. I'll post line movement updates as they occur.

There were loads of allegations that "Catholics vs Convicts" was racist dog whistle language to say "Whites vs Blacks," with some people going so far as to say that "Convicts" was code for "n****r." I don't remember if they get into it in that detail in the 30 for 30, but they definitely mention a racial component. That's the kind of thing that could create bad juju between white and black players within the Notre Dame locker room. You don't want this to be "the white school" versus "the black school."

Saw where Notre Dame is 18-7-1 against Miami, winning the last four matchups including a 30-27 decision last year. This Sat. is going to be exciting!

I know 1 Canes fan IRL: a girl from my parish originally from the middle of nowhere Iowa that went to Miami for undergrad. She's playing up the Catholics vs Convicts rivalry too, which is hilarious

I understand your point, but I highly doubt that is how our players would look at it.

It's not exactly a stretch to say that either. Did Miami bring it on themselves by acting the way they did, exemplifying the worst of urban-crime culture and attempting to call it swag? Yep. Was race at least a part of the equation, particularly in 1988? Yeah I'd say so.

Right, I just think it's wise to stay away from that stuff in 2017. Though Miami makes it very difficult with that stupid fucking chain.

More to the point, I think its weird to assume they don't already know that. Miami wears a turnover chain for goodness sake. I don't think ND players would be dumbfounded at the news that the Miami football program is seen nationally as being "blacker" than ND.

EDIT: All this to say, I think wooly and Wiz are both correct. You show the history, show that they don't like each other, show the fights before the game, but skip the "convict" stuff.

Driving home from South Bend Saturday night, I listened to ESPN's Sirius stream of the VT-Miami game. The ESPN satellite streams usually use the home team's radio broadcast.

The Miami color guy was INSUFFERABLE. As the game wore on and VT kept making mistakes and Miami kept making defensive plays, he was getting cockier and douchier. He started openly talking sh*t about how VT is completely happy to "play dirty as long as they knock someone out of the game." His color commentary went from "actual analysis" to "Miami is king of defense" once Miami had a two-score lead.

It was awful, and I hope that guy is miserable and full of excuses late Saturday night.

Miami and it's not even close.
And when did fucking A-Rod become a Canes fanboy? What a dipshit.

He either went there for a year or was supposed to go there and went pro out of HS. I think he was even recruited as a QB.

Wikipedia says he was gonna play there, but signed with Seattle after being drafted in the 1st. A Rod also lived there for a bit growing up

While we all get anxious, nervous, drunk this week (myself included), don't forget to take this time in and enjoy it.

It's rare to be in this position, top 5 matchup, college gameday, and the playoffs looking us right in the face. There are 110 team's fans that envy us right now.

Enjoy this time, we’re either going to win or lose (shocking), and Sunday morning will either be the greatest or the worst, but enjoy the journey. Be cocky, be drunk, be merry, and go Irish!

My hope is that BK and HH really push the need to punish the DL and LBs this week in practice. Miami typically plays a fast but light front 7 (in the past not sure about this years team) which has to play to NDs advantage. Hopefully really working on that downfield PA pass which should be HUGE this week with them stacking the box to slow down the run.

Great move by BK to sit Adams. Let him rest on a game won early.

I have no idea their sizes, but I don't think that's true this year. They have a couple DL with their bellies hanging out. It looks like Gilligan ate the skipper.

I think Miami slows our running game big time in the 1st half. I don't think we have much success through the ground, but the deep passing game makes plays. Wimbush did his part this last game, the WRs need to do theirs this game. He played amazing, and they played poorly, they need to step up, the deep passing game is no longer on Wimbush.

Then in the 2nd half, I think we start to have success running the ball, and slowly pull away to a ~10 point win.

ND laying 3 is easy money. We are getting great value because of the way Miami beat Va Tech. ND wins this game 40-24

I hope they stack the box. If you watch a lot of our big runs, it has come when teams stack the box, put a single high safety over top, and expect to stuff us. The OL does their job, WRs block the corners, and BOOM Adams, Jones, Williams, whoever has one safety to make a move on.

I just hope that ND gets a turnover and Julian Love is walking around the sideline with an "ND" post-it note stuck to a shoelace tied around his neck.

SIAP - Demetrius Jackson (DE) apparently will be out for this game with a knee injury.

No clue how good he is - anyone?
