I obviously want Notre Dane to win this weekend, but I do think UM is on the rise again and should be a fun team to play against this weekend and in the future.

1. Head Coach - Mark Richt, UM alum, he’s home and has said he’s either retiring at UM or getting fired and retiring so he wants to build something great at UM and be there for a long time.

2. Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility - Est Date of Completion - Fall 2018. $34M state of the art practice facility will help big time and they need considering they have practices interrupted in training camp due to lightning (Florida is number one lightning state in US)

3. Fertile Recruiting Grounds - Florida is the most or second most (TX) talented state in the country at producing talent and Miami is one of the most talented cities in America at producing football recruits.

4. Academics - 25th best school in the FBS (130 schools) according to Forbes best colleges

5. Talent - 20th in 247 Team Talent Rankings. See #6

6. Recruiting - 4th Best 2018 Class according to 247. That team talent is going up with their really good recruiting class

They also have a beautiful campus that I’ve been to many times. It’s 75° and sunny all winter long which I’m pretty happy about and so are the recruits. I hope we beat UM this weekend but do not underestimate this program and especially its future.

Richt is a good coach, and should make UM a nightmare to deal with in the ACC. He just couldn't get over the hump at UGA, Meyer and Saban had that conference on lock!

I wish all these NFL teams would tell colleges and high schools to stop using their stadiums.

Best case scenario for ND is....

Miami wins the ACC after losing to ND
USC wins the PAC 12
MSU wins the big 10

ND enters the Playoffs having beaten 3 out of the 5 Power 5 conferences.

Then beats OU in the first round of the playoffs...then
beats Georgia (Not Bama) handily to win the Natty....having beat every Power5 champion and finishes the recruiting class taking seven 5 star recruits.

Ummmm...this could happen

Nothing is perfect in life . . . Yet, this would be about as close to perfect as you could get as an ND fan. Let it be! Hear! Hear!

There's no reason to bring back "Catholics vs Convicts"... back then, it was because their players openly embraced "thug" culture and were actually getting arrested at alarming rates. A lot of their criminal activity is discussed with a chuckle in "The U" 30-for-30.

Today, they're just a normal team of guys and I'd find it very offensive to label them "convicts".

Completely agree.

Great post. As much as we can joke about Miami's level of education, The Miller School of Medicine is a respected program.

Mr. Worldwide is actually a pretty nice guy. Could be worse, they could resurrect Uncle Luke.

Pit Bull is a good one. Much better than the predictable and over-used Rock. Pit Bull will be pretty sweet if true.

Been talking about this for the last couple of weeks, would be insane. Just the fact it's still a possibility this late in the season makes me very happy.

Much like Michigan, I don't think many here discredit the school itself, rather how they push these athletes to lesser majors.

I'm not sure why anyone would talk about C vs. C at this point. It's been twenty years and we've played each other several times. Players on both teams weren't even born.

WF's TE got open because the QB held the ball longer than most, causing the separation. You can't ask a QB to start holding it longer on a RPO in the middle of the season. It will throw the timing off, which would lead to more pressures by us. Elko will have the necessary adjustments for a running QB after playing WF.

The question is, Can Miami sustain the mental aspect after elevating themselves last week? The game with VT was huge because is was going to determine who wins their division. Hard to "stay up" for two weeks.

Even Stanford is guilty of that. And their GSR (7th overall, 9th for minorities) is surprisingly good. Miami's problem is that its ROI is very low for such an expensive private school. ND, for instance, costs roughly the same amount but offers 2-3 times as much in degree value as Miami (depending on which metric you use).

Whiskey bringing out the Google doc ROI spreadsheet. What nostalgia.

I wish all these NFL teams would tell colleges and high schools to stop using their stadiums.

Why would they do that?
That stadium is owned by the owners of the Dolphins. They likely make a ton of money renting it out to Miami for seven games a year, most on weekends when it would otherwise site empty. Stadiums should be used more, not less. Maybe get artificial turf if the field can't handle the work?

Yep...........Stadiums are owned by an NFL owner or the city. Lucas Oil is owned by Indy, not Irsay. The Colts have scheduling preference, but Indy rents out LOS as much as possible. Irsay hopes it's rented all the time as he gets a cut of the concessions for all events.

Randy Shannon, a proud Norland and U grad, worked his butt off, and basically in turn got himself fired, for meticulously rebuilding the image and clientele of a renegade program.

*You saw how docile (and cold lololololol) that 2010 Sun Bowl team was

Script to the start of the game

1st play..Wide receiver screen left to Claypool...Smythe and ESB fail badly to block the 4 Miami defenders and the play goes for a one yard gain.

You must be dreaming. A screen pass that nets a GAIN?!?!?

I think this game should be a 10-14 point win. They average around 25 ppg against the better compentiton on their schedule we average around 38-40 nc state has a better defense I believe than Miami

I think people think of Miami like the team with Ed Reed... This ain't them... Go look at the NC game (24-19), FSU (24-20), G Tech (25-24).

People see the V tech but that is the exception, not the rule..

We will be able to run and run easily... Protect the ball and we win by 20

I'm beginning to think they play down to their opponent like ND has had a tendency to do in recent years. The only top 25 team they have faced, they dominated and suddenly resemble a top 10 team. That sucks if true because they'll likely play the best game of their lives on Saturday.

I wish they would stop having taxpayers pay for them.

That will only happen when local/regional/state pols finally realize that funding a stadium is a future economic pot o' gold for their residents is no more than smoke and mirrors.

Until it's accepted that that myth is busted the owners and the NFL will continue their fleecing ways.

Sorry if already discussed. But I can’t wait for Berrios v. Crawford. Hell of a matchup,

For comparison's sake, how does our offensive line stack up with Virginia Tech's?

Miami's d-line looked fast, hungry, and ate up the line of scrimmage.

I wonder if Berrios has any residual effects from the twisted ankle he suffered after celebrating his touchdown.

Their line is like a prius and ours is like a F250 with a power stroke diesel. Both can get you places but one can move shit more efficiently.

Welcome to Irish Envy.
