Movies you just saw

While not as... seasoned as you, I lived for Creature Feature, Svengoolie, Son of Svengoolie, reruns of The Twilight Zone and Serling's even creepier series, The Night Gallery. But when Darren McGavin brought Kolchak: The Night Stalker to primetime...

Remember when Rich Koz (Svengoolie) had the "Koz Zone" on Fox?

The local things I remember most from those years were:

-Svengoolie
-Bozo
-Victory Auto Wreckers/Pepper's Waterbeds/O'Connor Ford/Aronson's/Eagleman Car Insurance Commercials

What? No Sammy Terry? Local legend on Channel 4 the local independent station that carried the IU games.

You must be in the 35-40 demo. First off young man...

Rich Koz was Son of Svengoolie. Jerry Bishop was Svengoolie. Svengoolie was early 70's. Son of Svengoolie didn't come on until late 78 or 79 when I was in Jr. High. That was go to late night tv for us on weekends.

If you were a bit older, Danley Garage, Burt Weimann Ford and the one that you somehow forgot... 588-2300 ..... Emmmmmpiiiiiiire.

We couldn't pick up those crackerjack stations from the Corn County!.

I lived 29 miles from the dome and we had to have a separate antennae to even pick up the UHF's from South Bend. 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 32 & 44 (sometimes) out of Chicago came in with $5 rabbit ears.

Here's a pre-Welcome Back Kotter Gabe Kaplan on Svengoolie. BTW, I'm pretty sure Svengoolie is Kid Rock's daddy.

Channel 4 was VHF. They also had Chuck Marlow who did the weekly IU BB shows with Bob (don't call me Bobby) Knight. Knight use to abuse Chuck every show and Chuck would just sit there and take it. Remember the show where Knight brought a jackass wearing a hat on the set?

Got into the Halloween spirit and watched Sleepy Hallow for the first time.

It was strange, and actually pretty brutal, but I enjoyed it. Christopher Walken as the soldier/Horseman had me laughing. Definitely a Tim Burton movie, and had a hell of a cast.

I remember my family picking up on "Son of Svengoolie" when we moved to Wisconsin for a bit. Great stuff. We didn't have that kind of wacky local TV stuff from where moved from.

Watched Season of the Witch for the first time ever from start to finish... I expected it to be just woefully bad, and by reg movie standards I guess it was, but by 1980's horror movie standards it was far better than I expected...

Through the last half of October, I have been watching some of the Vincent Price - Edgar Allan Poe movies and some of the Hammer horror movies of the 60's and early 70's.

I suggest you experience some of them yourselves.

We liked the Cinderella live action well enough... (Any time you can take the whole family to a movie and everyone is at least okay with it then it's a win)...

I'm stoked for B&tB... My youngest is all about Belle (really all about any Disney Princess but Belle, Merida, Tiana, Elsa would all be in teh group of her SUPER favs...)

On that note, I freakin loved The Peanuts Movie... everyone loved it and it's somewhat rare these days for me to be all in on an animated kids/family flick (Even with Cinderella I liked it more because my girls and wife liked it...) ... We all enjoyed it in the theater and I think that was the first Blu Ray I ever bought the day it came out.

Siege of Jadotville is on Netflix. Got pretty good ratings. About that Irish military in the Congo. Highly recommend.

I have 4 vouchers for movie tickets from donating blood. I'm hoping that some movies actually come out soon that I care about. Other than Scorsese's Silence, of course.

From a historical, political and spiritual aspect, it's good to see. The production was way under what i was expecting however. It was very, made for tv war movie from the 70's-ish. Had a bad feeling Steven Seagal and Dolph Lundgren would drive onto the set at any moment.

I've heard nothing but great things from the people who went to see Arrival this weekend including a few who would be the last in my mind to like a sci-fi flick. Question is, is just a well packaged knock off of Jodie Foster's Contact from 20 years ago?

Hmm. I might have to check it out then.

I just saw Hacksaw Ridge and it was exceptional. It was as good if not better than Saving Private Ryan. Right now I would pick Hacksaw.

I'd lay serious odds that even if this movie gets a Best Picture nomination, Mel Gibson gets snubbed for Best Director. I'll bet most of Hollywood hasn't forgiven him. Of course, it's easier to make the snub now that the Academy expanded Best Picture nomination slots to "every kid gets a trophy" levels.

I watched the trailer for that and thought it looked awful. I think Andrew Garfield just didn't do it for me at all. But what you are saying here is making me rethink things.

That's kind of the vibe I was getting from the trailers with the mysterious structure, and the "instructions," and the communication.

I loved Contact, though, so I definitely want to give this one a try. I just have to convince my wife, who is a self-labeled "Cumberbitch," to see that instead of Doctor Strange.
