Lots of potential there
Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy are the 2 main leads, they're absolutely fantastic in Peaky Blinders together. Really looking forward to see if their chemistry carries over to the big screen.
Has anyone watched Stranger Things on Netflix? So far it's a great Sci-Fi series that reminds me a little bit of Super 8.
Wife and I have been watching Stranger Things this weekend, really like it.

I just started watching this over the weekend. Love it so far. I did not see Super 8 but sounds like a good comparison from what I know about that movie.
Show almost seems like a cross between X-Files and the Goonies.
I really like old school sci-fi/horror movies that are based in this era (1980's, I think?). If you like Stranger Things, I think you will like Super 8 too.
Have you watched Bloodline? I think that is Netflix's version of HBO's True Detective.
I do watch Bloodline, but I wouldn't compare it to True Detective.
Inspired by Koon's adventures in the sleazy business world, I watched "Glengarry Glen Ross" for the first time over the weekend. Decent flick. Loved the "Always Be Closing" scene. However, I found it ironic that the film itself wasn't a Closer, after beating us over the heads with it for 20 minutes. Kind of tapered off, even with the "big" reveal about Shelby Levene in the end.
I don't know what I was waiting for, and it made sense that the movie just kind of tapered off, given the nature of the characters. Of course they'd reset and just get ready to screw over the next guy, even though everything kind of fell apart around them.
I guess I didn't like that it just kind of stayed within the office without any side sales action for the last 40 minutes."
I agree that the first 2/3 of the movie is better than the ending, but I think the wrap-up is appropriate. It's about desperate people leading miserable lives, so it's fitting that the ending features the most unlikable character (Spacey) screwing over the most vulnerable & pathetic character (Lemmon). No heroes, no redemption, just kill or be killed.
We are watching Friday the 13th w our oldest, her first time... And for some reason this got me thinking...
What movies, that got generally poor reviews, or are accepted widely as bad movies, do you actually enjoy?
For me one really stands out, I love(ed) Lady in the Water... Loved the style, the cinematography, the humor, loved the folklore, loved the performances, the heart and inner struggle of so many characters... And,... Apparently everyone else on the planet watched an entirely different movie lol...
Anyone else have a film or two like that, just panned by critics and audiences that you liked?

Diggstown
I am not sure of the reviews that it got, but I watch it every time it comes on. Some of the worst punches in a boxing movie, but I find it very entertaining.

I liked "Lady in the Water" as well. Paul Giamatti did a great job, the supporting cast was amusing, and it was imaginative. Of course, the director had to give himself a crucial role in the film That level of arrogance would be acceptable if he could act, but he makes a wooden post look Oscar-worthy. I think the hate was more that M. Night was showing himself to be a one-trick pony with his films, at least structurally and people felt embarrassed that they fell so hard for "The Sixth Sense."
Movies like that for me:
-"Crash" 2004. I thought it was good, with lots of strong performances. Maybe a bit emotionally overwrought. I don't get the out-and-out hate for it.
- "Rocky 5" Far from perfect, lots of holes and inconsistencies. But I liked how it got away from the 80s glitz and brought it down to earth, with Rocky going back to his roots. And the final fight in the street is pretty damn good.
- "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." I'm not a comic book guy so maybe that's why I don't have a bone to pick with what I thought was a visually impressive and entertaining movie. It's a fun watch, what's the problem?

People may scoff but I really liked Memento and Drive, neither of which received great reviews if my memory serves. Memento and Drive both had fantastic shooting, albeit for different reasons. Drive was overly stylized but I liked it and Memento put you in the mind of an amnesiac.

Memento????????
That is one of the top 50 movies on IMDB and 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. I think you are thinking of something else.
I thought that as well... Memento was critically acclaimed.

Yeah and Drive was really really well recieved as well. It also was a critical darling at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and I've never met a person that didn't like it. Amazing movie.
Haha no offense VDP but you basically just said "I know you guys might think I'm crazy but I really enjoyed Fight Club and Reservoir Dogs."
