The only negative to Fournette is that he doesn't have great top end speed. He looks as gifted as any high school runner I have seen in years, but he would not have an impact in the NFL right now. He needs a couple of solid seasons in the weight room and some technique work. As good as he is right now, he is not ready for the NFL like Hill from LSU is. But oh my... in a couple of years he should be more than ready.

Hah, Tommy, I dunno where that info's coming from, but I can assure you, it's utter bollocks. He doesn't have elite top end speed (i.e. Reggie Bush), but he's extremely fast. I'm about a 10 minute walk from St. Aug's stadium, so I went over with some friends to catch the St. Aug-Karr game this year. Noil was the fastest player on the field, but Fournette was a hair behind him.

His numbers bear that out, too. His 100m from state regionals this year is dead even with what Noil and Tony Brown have put up.

His top end speed was the only negative based on what recruiting analysts stated. And I would agree. He is plenty fast enough but he can be caught from the back side. Not typically in high school but in college we will see him get ran down at times. Still, he is the best rb by far this year and will be great to watch at LSU.

I just don't think that is the case. On a 53 man roster all of those guys are uber gifted athletically. The only ones that aren't, are just very gifted, with tons of intelligence/technique. I think it is a very rare thing to have a High School kid with the technique and physical attributes to turn pro. It would almost have to be a running back and that would be an extremely rare occurrence. Maybe a Herschell, maybe a AP, not too many of them even.

Yeah I agree. 1 or 2 per class is absurd, I'm thinking maybe 1 or 2 per decade, if that. Clowney is the best physical talent we've seen in years, but at 240 coming out of HS he would have been manhandled by NFL O linemen. Jabrill Peppers may be close with his combination of size and speed at a position that doesn't necessarily require tremendous strength

I don't think that Peppers could come out of high school and play in the NFL. There are enough elite college corners that struggle their first year in the NFL (see: Peterson) that would give me doubt on a high school kid's ability to hold his own against NFL receivers.

Nor do I, just was pointing out that, from a size+athleticism point of view, he may be the closest in this class.

I watched one of Fournettes' games on ESPN and he does not look as good as his brother, because he is not as big, but definitely looks real quick and pretty strong for his size. He was definitely overshadowed though.

So this happened:

Terrence Magee ain't no scrub either

"Leonard Fournette? Man," said senior teammate Terrence Magee, who is actually competing with Fournette for carries. "I know you've already heard about him. Who hasn't? I think he's going to have a great year. I'm excited to watch him play."

. . .

Peterson is the best college running back I've ever seen in person, and after seeing him in summer 7-on-7 drills, Magee says it's an accurate comparison for Fournette.

"To be honest, that's the only guy playing the running back position you can compare him to," Magee said. "I feel like I'm getting my opportunity to play with [Peterson]. …I still get a 'wow' factor seeing him catch the ball and run away from people who have been here as long as me."

If all of these accounts are true, Fournette is going to be a bad man.

I don't think I've ever seen seniors talking about a freshman like that. He said he's privileged to play in the backfield with him and is looking forward to watching him play.

It's rare to see outright acknowledgement of superiority when competing at a position. LF is going to have some highlights this fall.

The hype surrounding Fournette continues to grow. Bovada just added him to the list of Heisman bets at 33/1. He has yet to play a single down in CFB.

I agree with this. When I saw his film the first time the term "freakish" came to mind. Erveryone looked like they were standing completely still when he ran the ball. Yeah we see this with a lot of recruiting clips but NEVER to this extent. I'm actually looking forward to seeing him play.

Didn't realize that the kid struck the Heisman pose after scoring a touchdown against Sam Houston State. I guess coming off the previous game of 18 yards on 8 carries, the kid got a little carried away. LOL

I've never thought that this kid is the next Adrian Peterson. Neither his high school highlights nor his first couple of games in college look anything close to being on the level of pure physical ability that Adrian Peterson displayed in high school and in his freshman year at Oklahoma. Crazy hyperbole over this kid for some reason.
