Nuck Fotre Dame's admin for not being the highest paying program in the country.

Bama spent $56m** on football, next closes school was nearly $15m less than that. ND ranked in the top 5, at $39m.

ND could spend more, but I don't think they will ever win the arms race.

**includes cost of scholarship, excludes compensation paid by third parties (ex. media company pays HC $1m per year) and cost of facilities. If cost of scholarship was removed, I would imagine ND would probably be near bottom of top 10.

85 scholarships X ~$60,000 = ~$5mil

cheapest state school tuition, fees, room & board is probably ~$20,000

85 X ~$20,000 = ~$1.7mil

So any team that we are ahead of by ~$3.5mil we definitely spend more on football excluding scholarship with the possibility that number is even higher. Where would that put us?

Curious - ND spent $39 million on football in 2017... How does that look itemized?

BK = ~$4 million
Other assistants ~$4 million
What else?

Not everything, but some other things that might be included in that number: Other training and equipment staff, equipment itself, travel and hotel costs (keeping in mind they stay at a hotel overnight even for home games), training table/victory meals, gameday events/other things, recruiting visits.

It was 2016, but included: appearance guarantees and options, athletically related student aid, contract services, equipment, fundraising activities, operating expenses, promotional activities, recruiting expenses, salaries and benefits, supplies, travel, and any other expenses attributable to intercollegiate athletic activities.

To be clear, they:
Include:
- Athletics aid awarded to non-athletes (student-managers, graduate assistants, trainers) who serve a specific team.
- Money for cheerleader and mascots that support the varsity teams.
- Benefits paid to coaches by the institution.
- The dollar amount for items donated to the institution for intercollegiate athletics (for
example, bats and shoes) if a dollar amount can be assigned.
Do not include:
- Capital expenditures or debt service.
- Money for indirect facilities (i.e., the value of facilities and services provided by the
institution but not charged to athletics).

how that is broken down by institution was not reported.

Hope those football players like oil and gas. Maybe A&M can create a strategic partnership with Alabama---Aggies extract it and Bama pumps it.

Don't they have a shitty graduation rate? Who cares what the average salary A&M grads make if half their football players will never see a degree, much less one in a major that has high earning potential.

Their African American grad rate was something like 55%.

And no friggin' way are those numbers real. 100K average for Aggie grads...

Yea I thought the same thing re: grad rates. And is his tweet evening referencing the football graduates' average salary? Or just A&M in general? Because that also matters. Whiskey (I think) used to have a good spreadsheet for this info. Not sure if it's updated though.

Elko, man, F that guy...

I'm sure it's mid-career numbers and heavily influenced by the number of people in engineering and oil... things almost none of their football players will be going into. If Elko had gone to Vandy or Duke and wanted to steal the branding then fine... but going to A&M which isn't even a top 50 school and has an awful graduation rate to boot and selling kids on how they're going to get an education that sets them up for life is pretty darn sleazy.

Yeah he was just referencing A&M as a whole. First thing that popped in my head when I saw that statement. You don't have to be a smart kid or parent to see the bullshit and deception smeared across that tweet.

We can argue semantics on the "facts" all day, but the point stands that this was a BS move. And don't tell me throwing in "40-yr decision" wasn't a shot at us...

Not a shot at us, just lazy at changing his tweet template as minimally as possible.

Whatever. I’ve seen Stanford fans say we stole the 40 year decision thing from them, Oklahoma fans say we stole the Play Like A Champion slogan from them. Elko is smart to play the academics angle, it’s something most kids don’t hear much about in the SEC.

That's the problem. There isn't an academics angle at a place like A&M. It's a bold face lie to try and lure kids in. I know ND recruits a different type of kid/family, but it's apparent that these kids/families respect truthfulness and positive recruiting versus negative recruiting. Elko is literally doing the opposite.

I mean Mike Evans is getting paid $16.5 million per, and Von Miller $19 million per. They alone would cover 4 complete rosters at $100k a year.

Guess it wouldnt be that hard to inflate football player numbers, as Im sure they give honorary degrees to distinguished players who left early to get them vaunted ALUMNI status. Its all BS, and all window dressing to naive recruits.

Well we still tell recruits Mendoza is ranked #1, even though that isn't the case anymore. Is that a bold face lie?

I actually want schools like Texas A&M to make recruiting about academics. That's right in our wheelhouse and we will win those most of the times. Better than making it about chicks, weather, and partying.

What about cults centered around how a dog is the most revered thing around campus?

I hope they hammer the former West Virginia local! It's been obvious for years he has rewritten the rule book at FSU and now in a matter of months the truth comes free. Sabans next!

Saban is the Teflon Don. He won't get caught until he comes to coach ND
