I would agree with this, except you're comparing something that happened 20 years ago (different time, different climate) to how it may be construed today.



I may be forgetting, but I don't remember any local news, sports talk or the Indy Star ever reporting or mentioning Manning and infidelity. Someone who works for me has done a lot of work for Manning thru PM's personal assistant ever since PM arrived in Indy. He's shared info, but never anything about infidelity.

This is immediately what I thought too when I read the previous statement. Even if we're talking the brown eye here, I'm struggling to imagine the angle and placement where all 3 items are touching. It sounds more like he teabagged her at the worst, and only in the practical joke sense. It's inappropriate, but sexual assault? It wasn't forced sexual intercourse, sodomy, fondling, or rape. There are some places that consider it assault, but that's probably the absolute worst thing that occurred here if you blend the lines between both stories.

And her altered, second complaint that then was amended to include "genitals" is quite obviously BS. If that was true, she would've said so from the beginning in her initial suit, and there would be other people backing her claim.

I don't see it as inconceivable that his nuts hit her in the face...or touched her. hard to say why people say what they say, or remember things or provide details as they do...yea money is a hell of a motivator though.

Played football and Rugby...seen enough messed up crap that I probably have some form of PTSD. But always stuff team members did to each other. Trainers aren't the inner circle, and female trainers were for sure hands off. Peyton crossed a line, exposed himself (pun intended) and his teammates to a ton of potential problems. Had he been among responsible adults who took that seriously, the eyes on rocky top and questions would have been painful and hugely distracting...as his luck would have it, the entire athletic department were morons...apparently.

I'm torn on all of it. First, there's a lot of he said, she said and both of them have changed their stories over time. That she didn't initially claim he put his twig & berries on her face & head makes me wonder if he actually did. OTOH, Manning & UT trying to get someone else to take the blame and get a team mate to lie and say it was just a mooning makes it look like they knew what he did was definitely wrong. Whether it was his butt, his taint, or his junk, he wouldn't have thought it was funny if it had been done to him or his mom or his girlfriend... but that's the curse of being 19: you don't think about those things before doing dumb shit.

The fact that it was 20 years ago and he was a 19-year-old kid (and who among us didn't do some REALLY stupid crap at that age) makes it a lot more forgivable. OTOH, if someone did that to my wife or one of my daughters, there'd be a serious ass beating coming their way, no matter who he was.

I think one thing people aren't considering is the culture of that locker room during the time of the situation. She herself admits that she was often vulgar and Manning's statement talks about the fact that this type of conversation was common. His actions (per his interpretation) was that it was a joke after she made a vulgar comment. The opportunity presented itself, and he did something extremely immature.

The way it happened, Tennessee had hired a female trainer, and never mind that women in the men's locker room is one of the most misbegotten concessions to equal rights ever made. When Dad played, there was still at least a tacit acknowledgment that women and men are two different sexes, with all that implies, and a certain amount of decorum had to be maintained. Meaning when it came to training rooms and shower stalls, the opposite sex was not allowed. Common sense tells you why.

I admit that even in the context of "modern" life, what I did to offend this trainer was inappropriate. Not exactly a criminal offense, but out of line. I certainly didn't dislike her. I thought she had a vulgar mouth, but I always tried to be nice. …

Then one day I was in the training room and a track athlete I know made some off-color remark that I felt deserved a colorful ... response. I turned my back in the athlete's direction and dropped the seat of my pants. …

But I did it thinking the trainer wasn't where she would see. … Even when she did, it seemed like something she'd have laughed at, considering the environment, or shrugged off as harmless. Crude, maybe, but harmless.

We can use the "what if it was your mother/girlfriend" comparison if we want, but neither of them would have been in that situation. Doesn't make it acceptable, but it's a simple reality that the locker room at UT at that time fostered this type of discourse.

That's just shitty reporting and looking for clicks. It sounds like the price was paid and the woman was well compensated for what she went through. What's worse is the fact Manning is under a gag order and can't even comment on it without getting sued again. It's no wonder he hasn't made any new comments about the stuff getting drudged up again.

Locker rooms at most places would've fostered at least some of this type behavior. There's a lot of stuff that was more or less acceptable a generation or two ago that would get you in serious hot water today.

After reading more about it, I tend to agree with you for the most part. It does seem the entire thing was settled long ago and those dragging it up now are likely pushing an agenda.

Some social justice reporter brought up Manning's past *transgression* in response to everyone saying Cam Newton was being a baby during and after the Super Bowl... he turned it into a race issue, and brought up Manning's issue and the general "treatment" of Manning as an example of why everyone criticizing Newton is a racist.
