One thing I have not seen discussed, is yes, we are losing seats, however, with the expansion going upwards, you'd have to think that's gonna help keep stadium noise in. I'm thinking even with the loss of seats, but the stadium becoming a little more in closed around the top, the noise level is going to go up.

Where did they come from? Is there something comparable from their home country / culture that you can use as an analogy?

She is from India. The tricky part is finding an analogy for college football relative to that part of the world haha. Ideally I'd like to explain what makes ND different and special is everything off the football field. Where do you start?

You all are embarrassing yourselves and you need to snap out of it. "Bigger is better" makes you sound like Jerry Jones and Fielding Yost. Are those the guys you want us to emulate in our stadium design and capacity planning?

Yeah capacity really has jack shit to do with acoustics if that's what everyone is worried about. Autzen only holds something like 50K and it gets loud AF.

All I asked when I started this was how many people would ND draw if the stadium held 120,000. As someone who went to games pre & post '96, the gameday experience hasn't changed at all in my mind.

In regards to the bolded, it wouldn't be the first time.

I don't understand the need to create a separate entrance for the visiting team. I know there have been a few fights between teams in the past (1988 ND/Miami), but I just really don't understand why it's needed. That has to be a few 1,000 seats right there that we are losing that we really don't need to.

They are opening new stores because it makes more money to have 1000 stores running 85 percent than 600 running 105 percent

MLB stadia have gotten smaller even as attendance has increased across the board. The operating theory is that scarcity actually helps drive demand.

Gotta disagree, homie. We pump freaking Crazy Train into the stadium and have a StaND campaign to move the blue hairs out. The vendors are different and we have mobile options at the stadium. I feel like it's a lot different than the experience of pre-96. It's about to get a lot more different too with different seating, Jumbotron, etc.

Not to mention the fact our own stadium could get plenty loud prior to the '96 expansion.

They are prepping for the slow exit of the older folk.

The "new" older folk will be a bit more in tune with modern technology, entertainment, and sports presentation in general.

They're decreasing capacity, but they are doing so to make the experience more friendly for those who can appreciate a more comfortable and tech-friendly experience. Wanting wifi during the game to Tweet and follow the action socially, allowing people to use their electronic devices as they see fit, providing people with greater comfort in the stands... those all answer the "why not just stay home?" crowd that is growing among younger football fans.

Also, the folks with the money that they REALLY care about get a part in the changes, as well, as they've now got an exclusive luxury section to get in on.

They're meeting the steady changes among football fans and their thoughts on the gameday experience, while simultaneously creating "exclusivity" for the older/high-class crowd that wants to stick around.

It would actually be a fascinating research topic for a grad student to study the changes and their social and economic effects.

Random question for the board: how does one explain what makes ND football so unique to someone who moved to this country 8 years ago and knows nothing about college football?

I mean, it's really like a ten minute conservation... can't be that hard can it?

The analogy I'd try would be cricket - nobody in India cares about football (even less college football), nobody here cares about cricket.

If you've been to Notre Dame, no explanation is necessary. If you haven't been there, no explanation will suffice. - Lou Holtz

Sounds like you need to take her to a game.

Might ruin his experience explaining everything during the game

Thanks, fellas. I pulled up a full game for her on youtube, which turned into a film session and worked well because you can pause, rewind, and explain different things.

All the stuff ND has related to Catholicism, academics, history, and tradition I just found tricky to explain for some reason.

To save some people from a heart attack, I'll post it here:

I know its still really early for mock drafts but Walter Football has Mike McGlinchey going #37 to Detriot and Isaac Rochell going to Pittsburgh (love it).

In the most recent updated mock, WF has Big Mike going #27 to the Eagles with Rochell still going to the Steelers

My sources tell me it'll be the same God awful defense from last week. Don't understand how the competent D hasn't been named starter yet #FireKelly.

Not surprisingly Dr. Lou predicted Notre Dame will run the table the remainder of the season and finish 11-1. He said this during his radio show "The Playbook", with Chris Carlin on Sirius XM College radio. Lou also said that Texas will be the best team ND plays this year. Lou is really close with Charlie Strong for those that didn't know. He also said that all the mistakes and missed tackled he saw on defense, watching the game live and on tapes are all correctable...Sorry Lou but I don't agree with that last one.

I can't stand sunshine pumpers, but Lou is the exception to the rule for me. The more optimistic he is the more I love him. Long live...
