Arizona St. has a chance. My sleeper is BYU. If they can survive their first 4 games (@Nebraska, Boise St. @UCLA, @Michigan they could go undefeated and make a strong case for a spot. They could even make a strong case with 1 loss. They play Missouri, Cincinnati, Utah St. and East Carolina too.

Just want to mention BYU again. I made this post a few weeks ago and they were 2 points away from being a very impressive 3-0. I think if they can go 11-1 they have a very strong argument to get into the playoffs.

Looking at their schedule, they very well might not play a ranked team the rest of the year. In fact, if they go 11-1, they would have lost to their only ranked opponent.

That's not gonna get you into the playoffs, imo.

Still would be great for BYU, another school that tries to do things the right way....

Plus...how is BYU going to get in when we take the 4th spot?

Then again...they would move to an 8 team playoff pretety damn quick if 2 Independents got in over 3 of the 5 Power 5 champs.

With all the parity that we've seen and I think will continue to see in Power 5 conferences, I won't say that can't happen but I think they needed to beat UCLA to have a true shot. They only ranked team they have a chance to beat now is Mizzu and by that time I bet Mizzu won't even be ranked. So they'll have 11 wins but none against top 25 teams. That'll be pretty hard to make that argument, IMO

Fair points but they do play a lot of above-average teams that could all end up being 8-4 or better at the end of the year. I agree they probably needed to beat UCLA but I'd rather see them get in at 11-1 than a 2 loss SEC or 1 loss Big 12 team.

Too weak of a schedule. They would only have 2 quality wins. And that's even debatable. Nebraska and Boise st. . I would give them a 1 percent even if they end up 11-1

Absolutely, if its a matter of want, I'm all in. And I agree that its a solid schedule that if they go 11-1, should be extremely proud of. I just don't see how they get the voters to go along with that.

@ Michigan and Missouri would be quality wins most likely.

I didn't realize Cincinnati was 0-3 and Utah St. was 1-2. Those teams were expected to be fairly good this year. So yeah, probably not enough top teams but their schedule is still a lot better than half the Big Ten lol.

I could see BYU going in over a Big 12 champion if that champion is TCU or Baylor again. Both teams have shitty schedules again. They each play Oklahoma, each other, and Kansas State I would say. You could maybe make the argument that Oklahoma State will be decent too, but I wouldn't hand my hat on that. If BYU's one loss is UCLA, and Baylor/TCU each have one loss again, BYU might go in over a Big 12 champ. I wouldn't count on them going in over a one loss PAC-12, B1G, or ACC champ, and certainly not a 1 loss SEC champ.

Still, BYU's decent opponents would have to have great years to strengthen their schedule and make all that happen. Nebraska would have to turn their season around, and the rest of the decent competition would need no more than 2 losses so Boise State, UCLA, Michigan, Missouri, and maybe one other team would need to finish strong like Cinci.

Honestly...Watching OSU and Alabama Notre Dame isn't in their league yet. I don't see how Notre Dame on their best day could beat one of those two teams on mediocre day from them. I'll be satisfied with a New Year six bowl this year please.

Still feel this way?

You need to use a pic hosting site light Photobucket to upload the picture. If the picture is already on the web you can just copy the link and put it in the IMG tags you have above.

This is the offense we all expected to have Under Kelly. It has just taken some time.

Baylor has been ridiculous. Their schedule has been easy, but #2 offense in rushing yards yer game and #6 in passing yards per game. Crazy.

I'd be interested to see how our YPP is distributed. Are we consistently very good, or are we mediocre offset by two Fuller bombs every game?

fuller's bombs and cj's big runs i would say skew the results..but wouldn't that also be the same for baylor?

Guys, the only way any of those teams are on that list is because they are good at creating BIG plays. No one on that list is NOT making big plays that "skew" the numbers.

Wouln't that be the same for every team? Unless there's a team that gets 6 or 8 yards on every play.

There's no legitimate nit-picking about whether big chunk plays somehow lessen our yards per play accomplishments. Everybody's trying to get TD bombs and Run monster rips. That's called scoring. As Earl Weaver said in baseball "go ahead and bunt and run all you want; I'll take the three run homer and beat you."

Almost the entire theory of running the ball is to keep pounding it in there and ultimately you'll gash them --- football has grown since Woody Hayes --- even Alabama and OSU live off the Henry and Elliot romps. Some passing teams do dink and dunk if their QB is tall and fantastically accurate. I'd rather terrorize them with Fuller to open up the shorter routes even then.

There's nothing wrong with the way we move the ball.
