Complete azzhole. If Clemson is not listed as overrated then neither can we be. ... sometimes I wish for a brief window of Stalin Sport Nation where the offending media would simply be shot.

.... well, not really.

.... well

I didn't read anything there that I really disagreed with... on any of the teams listed...

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but can someone please explain to me why Schmidt starts over Nyles? In all honesty I don't understand. Joe is constantly one step behind, a liability in middle of the field on passing plays, and wiffs on way too many crucial tackles. Nyles on the other hand is an athletic, fast, and looked very promising at times last year. At least give him a shot, right? I understand Joe is the captain, but man he stands out as the sore thumb of the Defense more obvious than anyone I can remember since good ole Gary Gray.

The five most overrated teams in the coaches' poll | Yardbarker.com

Once I saw the headline, I knew Notre Dame would make the list. Although I don't disagree with what the writer said about ND, besides for losing to Stanford, I can't believe they made the list of most overrated top 25 teams.

Technically ND didn't make "the list of most overrated top 25 teams" his article discusses his "five most overrated teams" in the Coaches Top 25. He believes ND is a Top 15 teams but not Top 10.

While absolutely worthy of a top 15 ranking, Notre Dame is not one of the best 10 teams in the country ...

Interestingly he neglects to mention that ND was #13 (that's Top 15 territory) in the previous poll and that #10 A&M LOST and dropped 6 slots, #11 UF LOST and dropped 3 slots, #12 Miss LOST for the second time dropping a whopping 11 slots, AND #14 Mich who was ranked behind ND LOST and dropped 3 slots.

The 3 teams ranked behind ND last week Stanford, OKS, and IOWA are still ranked as the 3 teams behind ND this week.

ND didn't vault other anybody, they moved up as other ahead of them lost. AND if they had been #15 last week as he thinks they are "absolutely worthy" they would have moved up to their current slot.

He didn't think that through.

His comment about ND needing a 4th quarter rally cracks me up. Football IS 4 quarters long. Baseball has 9 innnings. Whether you score early or late the total score counts and if you outscore the other team you get the "W" ... which ND did.

He literally cannot grasp what to do schematically. He chooses the wrong gap every other play. People complain about Joe, and a lot of it has been deserved, but for the most part he is in the right place even if he doesn't make the solo tackle every time. But with Nyles, he simply vacates spots and goes to places where he doesn't belong, and it happens when way too much.

I wish he could play more too, because he brings a violence very few players can bring. But he has to get better mentally...way better.

Are you sure? I've been reading from irate fans that this is a Kelly conspiracy to piss them off.

I just wish we knew where the problem was. Is it all him? Or is the scheme too complex? Weren't early reports of Morgan from the paid services that he was a true student of the game, diving into the playbook, etc? Or is that just recruiting / frosh hogwash to make readers feel good?

Kelly's offense moves the ball every game. Red Zone could improve but the offense is going to play big if they want to win a big game this year.

fuller's bombs and cj's big runs i would say skew the results..but wouldn't that also be the same for baylor?

What skews results more is the score IMO. I think we can all agree that garbage time in a game will significantly impact playcalling. These stats a meaningless. There are many variables that a stat such as YPP. I think staticians should track YPP when teams are in meaningful plays, or disregard obvious plays that kill clock. Or if the opponent waives the white flag and puts the glee club in on defense.

If Baylor really wanted to, they could put up a 100 spot on a shitty team. They choose not too, and for good reason.

Im just not slowly getting around to watching the ND/USC game on youtube as I was out all last weekend.

Amazing how ND fumbles on the 2 yardline which would have made it 28-10. On the 2.

TOP first half was like 4 min for ND. USC had over double the number of plays.

I dont get the 'needed a 4th quarter rally to win" comment. USC used every trick play in the book to even make it a game. ND moved up and down the field at will.

This guy is clueless

Yes I agree. That's why I find it odd that ND even made the list. Do you think there aren't other teams in the top twenty five that are overrated by more than two or tree spots. I don't believe ND is overrated at all. I think they are where they should be at this time. That is my only gripe with the article as I stated before I don't disagree with what he wrote. It seems like ND is always on a list like this just to get clicks.

CBS has Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl facing Utah

Why?

It wouldn't be a game. The ND staff has the number for a Utah rout complements of USC!

(Remember, Utah had one guy that played with the speed of SC. Watching ND-SC I believe ND has more overall speed. Especially on the line. The SC offensive line is big and strong but Banner and Mamma (especially) cannot move their asses to save their lives. Utah is slower in the trenches both ways than SC. But on defense they are especially slow. Worked for them against U of M, wouldn't so much against ND.

I'm not sure ND has more overall team speed than USC, but it's closer than it has ever been since the 90's.

Didn't know he was a DePauw grad...

I could've sworn I'd heard him mention about his "time at ND as a student". My mistake. Also, way to overreact. I don't think that anybody can argue that this isn't the best O line (with respect to 2013 being beastly with Reesus back there) nor that this isn't the best group of offensive skill position talent.

Though this brings up a good point and hypothetical. Would you rather:

Have Floyd and Eifert and the running backs from 2011

Or

This year's offensive skill position talent?

Speak for yourself.

We're forced to tailgate in a dark bar parking lot, huddled around a hibachi grill, on a frigid 60 degree California morning.

Frigid? Lol good thing you weren't tailgating on a brisk 38 degree Saturday afternoon in South Bend. I also have to ask why you will be in a dark bar parking lot at 9 am

Yet, what is noticeably absent is the theme of us having less "team speed" than our opponents. I cannot tell you how hard that used to make me gag.

"Clearly the Irish are a step slower..."

"And that's SEC speed right there..."

"Just kicked it into another gear and that secondary just lacks the top end to pursue..."

I don't hear that shit anymore. If there was a kernel of truth to not possessing elite team speed, the pundits would not hesitate. Quite the contrary.

I don't know how you kids tailgate nowadays but we start at least 4 hours before kickoff. I haven't had to tailgate this early since the Navy game in Dublin.

4 words...long sleeves and alcohol

Noon EST is 9am PST here. The crack of dawn will be after 6:30am PST even with Daylight Savings. The bar opens at 7am so we are gonna get it started in the dark because we can. What we can't do is show up at kickoff without proper cocktail inhalation.

And I'm from LaPorte Co. I've tailgated at 50 Irish and Bears games where 38 deg. would have been a blessing.
