"Today's fans consume content in many different ways and we continuously look at the content we create and how we present it. Inevitably that informs how we utilize our talent. ESPN will continue to have a roster of talent that is unequaled in sports and present the highest quality sports coverage in the business."

You know when they issue a statement like that, they are in trouble.

Clay Travis on Fox Sports radio is starting to make some headway in the mornings.

Who is making big $$$ on-air right now that is expendable for them?

The Mike & Mike guys? They already had their shows bumped by competition, didn't they?

Most of the ESPN beat writers openly haaaaaaaaate ND.

Like they don't even try to hide it. That's why I don't read any CFB content from ESPN anymore lol. The only content worth a damn is power conference stuff, and they don't like ND.

And Fortuna's writing/content was trash the whole year leading up to his departure.

Strikes me as St. Patrick's Day click-bait.

Yeah that was totally fine IMO. They even said that we have a winning record all time against them.

If the article was reversed to be "Looking at ND's luck against the Big Ten" everyone would be saying "WHAT DO YOU MEAN LUCK"

ND Fans = Triggered By Nature

I mean, I hope no one is genuinely triggered. Only sarcastically.

I don't think anyone is seriously upset, but yeah I think some people would point to this as ESPN anti-ND bias.

You'd think an article talking about "luck" and mentioning Little Giants would note that MSU snapped the ball after the play clock ran out and committed OPI on that play.

Clay Travis is a moron and a shock-and-awe liar, but he's spot on when it comes to ESPN and their political hypocrisy.

Criticism of liberalism is not to be tolerated from their employees, but speaking out against conservatives is fine.

ESPN Moves Left Wing So CEO Can Run For President | Outkick The Coverage

Clay Travis is almost equal parts genius and troll. He plays the troll intentionally (much like Cowherd) with the veneer of sincerity required to get clicks/views. But when he's not in "entertainer" mode his clarity of thought and insight is pretty impressive, and he's an engaging writer too.

Oh yeah, he's very intelligent. "Moron" in this instance means "panders to the lowest common denominator far too often." He's at his best when he's calling out hypocrisy in sports and/or media, and not just trying to push a fan base's buttons for clicks.

His campaign against the NFL and their stance on sports betting, considering the move of the Raiders to Vegas, has been going since before anyone thought a team moving to Vegas was even legit.

Iger does very little in terms of actually managing ESPN. The boss is John Skipper.

Which is kind of the point of the article. The only person Skipper reports to is Iger, and the moves made at all of Iger's properties (not just ESPN) point in an interesting direction. Iger -- who has very little dealing with ESPN -- randomly follows 3 black ESPN employees and The Undefeated but not ESPN's main account, etc.

Cherry-picking.

I'm not denying that Bob Iger is a liberal. But he's not the kind of liberal that pushes his company "that way" on purpose for the sake of some social justice agenda. He's about the shareholders.

This was a great read, especially this passage:
The fact that these opinions are labeled "controversial" is an insult to controversy everywhere. Moreover, and this is an important point, why does the media only label conservative sports media opinions controversial? I've been pro choice and anti the death penalty for my entire public career and frequently shared those opinions both online and on air. No one has ever called those opinions controversial. That's because they're "liberal" opinions.

But the moment I write that Colin Kaepernick's protest is absurd and idiotic -- a point the vast majority of sports fans agree with -- I'm labeled controversial. I even had a prominent sports executive recently tell me that I could have my own television show, but I had to give up talking about politics because I was too conservative to go on sports TV. Too conservative! I WORKED FOR AL GORE'S PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN AND HAVE NEVER VOTED FOR A REPUBLICAN IN MY LIFE.

Evidently that's too conservative for sports media today. That makes me a right winger in this industry.

The truth of the matter is this: the sports media doesn't need more people who look differently and think the same. When only 4% of the sports media voted for Donald Trump according to a recent poll in The Big Lead, it desperately needs more diversity of thought, not less.
