I was a junior in college for the '88 championship...... I was running in and out of my apartment, down the stairs, back up, - lady across from me asked if I could at least put on some clothes since I was running around in my tighty-whities.....

....funny, wife asked me to the same thing last night !!!!

I did the exact same thing when the NY Giants won in 2007 when I was a sophomore at ND. My buddy and I ran around campus in our underwear. Can't really explain why but it was amazing.

I'm still at a loss for words. That game last night exhausted me emotionally. It's finally setting in today. What a great feeling! Go Cubs Go!

Congrats to the Cubs!
One of the best world series I can remember-a great series by both teams, but the better team won.

Cubs are set up nicely for the future too....will be fun to watch.

MLB couldn't have asked for a better matchup or series...one for the history books.

While the Cubs - Indian's story line was a good one, I'm sure the guys who count the money would have preferred the Cubs to have beaten the Red Sox or the Yankees.

Congrats to the Cubs...I don't like losing, but I really don't like losing to fake teams, such as the Marlins. The Cubs are a real team, with a real fanbase that knows what it means to lose- and deserved to win at some point. So congrats to the Cubs.

And also f*ck the Marlins.

I called my brother who is by my 91 year old mothers bedside almost 24-7 as she is recovering from knee replacement. She was born in Chicago.
I asked if she was aware last night what was going on. He said while he was choking up, "dude, when they made the final out, mom turned and said this was even better than a ND National Championship." I can't even come up with the words that explain how epic last nights game was. Can't recall ever seeing a better baseball game, or a more intense game of any kind than last night.

The series got a 25 share. Last night got a 40.

25 rating, 40 share. Didn't understand the distinction before.

World Series TV ratings: Epic Game 7 was off the charts

Fox announced the broadcast of Chicago Cubs’ 8-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings had 40 million viewers, making it the most-watched baseball game in 25 years. The overnight rating (25.2) was also the best for a Fox baseball broadcast since Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, a decisive game that featured the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks that yielded a 27.0.

Outside of the presidential debates, the game was also the most-watched telecast since February's Super Bowl 50, according to Fox. The rating was also a 66% improvement over the last Game 7 in a World Series, a contest that pitted the San Francisco Giants against the Kansas City Royals in 2014.

Fox projected the telecast to be the largest it's had in prime time since January 2007

The game drew a record 51.2 rating in the Chicago market and a 71 share, meaning 71% of televisions in use in Chicago were tuned to the game. Cleveland had a 48.6 rating and a 69 share.

That national share was 40.

Guess we should stop watching sports then. Now that the "curse" is over, the Cubs aren't exactly the lovable losers anymore. Over the years there was a lot of sympathy that caused people to root for them, but outside of true fans those feelings are drying up with the win. What are the Cubs without the curse? Mostly a mediocre team in recent history.

Recent history? How recent? Because they won the fucking World Series a day and a half ago. Don't be bitter.

This kind of hits the nail on the head what I was trying to say. When you cease to be the lovable losers and start winning you become the Yankees. Not right away of course, but there's going to be far less good will towards Chicago next year and less people rooting for them to win. People hate the champ, except for those that were fans all along. 'Bama is a great example. No one gave two shits about the Crimson Tide before Saban showed up, at least not since Bear Bryant roamed the sidelines. Now just about everyone without Tuscaloosa ties can't' stand 'em.

Between the media, message boards, friends, work, etc it was painfully obvious how it was "Cleveland against the world" because everyone and their brother suddenly became a Cubs fan out of sympathy. I'm not talking the true fans out there centered around Chicago, I'm talking my die hard Red Sox Army Captain buddy that flipped to the Cubs once Boston was out of it (Normally a staunch AL guy and a supporter of Francona). I also know a Cardinals fan that went all Cubs, rivalry be damned. Hell, even in Cincinnati, which is still considered part of Ohio even though by nature it's more Kentucky than anything, it was rather split on support for the Cubs and Indians. Now some may say "That's just your personal experience" or some other silly statement, but I think this chart says it all:

world-series-search-mappng-d6ad5a45606221e4.png

So yeah, Cubs fans should enjoy the win, by all means. I just wouldn't expect the same good will next season if the Cubs find their way back to the playoffs, a lot of those sympathy votes will switch to see the champ dethroned...and if the Cubs return to their middling ways, there's going to be far greater expectations from the fans now and less patience when things do start to turn sour. It's going to be a radical change as we know it for Cubs baseball.
