With the hope that there will be a bit o' bronze outside the stadium that looks a lot like him.

Are there gates still available for naming?

Well, we've got Leahy, Rockne, Devine, Ara, and Holtz outside the stadium. Only 4 of those have gates named after them. Rockne holds the north tunnel. We could probably bump Dan Devine for Kelly if BK finds a way to bring a championship or two home.

Pretty cool, heard this in the press conference on the way home from the game. Gratz to BK. When Jack Swarbrick came on before BK came to the podium I was wondering "Is this going to be it?"

Kelly's contract extension

Kelly's contract extension

I didn't see a thread for this and I have a question.

Did the rest of the staff get more $/extensions? I know that it has been discussed that this was one of Kelly's terms, but I didnt see it mentioned. I think that this is crucial to the program/recruiting.

Also, whoo hoo! Kelly being around for a while should be a good thing.

There is a thread and I'm moving this there. Thread is poorly titled.

I've heard conflicting information, but there is no doubt that the coaches got significant raises. No one is really sure if they were HUGE or just significant. Mike Frank reported that they weren't as big as you would think. Those were all done awhile ago.

Also, whoo hoo! Kelly being around for a while should be a good thing.

Eh, this doesn't guarantee that. I wouldn't be surprised if we're paying him north of $3.5 or $4 mil a year now... but unless there is a very significant poison pill buyout clause in place, there really isn't anything to stop a desperate Texas or NFL team from offering $7mil+ and it still being attractive. We don't know the exact terms, but it stands to reason that it's far less likely that he'll leave now... the question is how much less likely. Is there a 0% chance? 1% chance? 20% chance if he got the right offer? Only time will tell.

Just saw this in a BGI article on BK: Notre Dame's Brian Kelly came a long way to reach 200 wins

Kelly has come a long way in his quarter century in the coaching world. As the second youngest (51 years, 310 days old) coach to reach the 200-win milestone, he still has plenty of room to keep going. The only man to get to 200 at a younger age was Pop Warner. Only Joe Paterno, Tom Osborne, Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes — a Mt. Rushmore quartet of Midwestern coaches — got there in fewer games than the 270 it took Kelly.

That's some remarkable company.

Don't worry, won't even be nearly as active, but lets keep it off the boards. Old 'beefs' are dead to me. Got a problem...PM me.

Yah well I addressed it in your fairly hostile PM. I couldn't careless about stuff that happened years ago. Seems like you hold on a little too much.

SIAP: Y! SPORTS

Decent article by Wetzel on Belichick and Kelly this offseason.

Thanks for posting this. I would have missed it. But, I have been saying since Pebble Beach that the Kelly/Belichick thing would be helpful for us. Bill has a history of relationships with college coaches. They are clearly a give an take (he isn't a real charitable person), but Saban, Kelly, Meyer, Kelly and the Patriots have all been pretty successful for a good while. Good club for BK to be in.

"Texas?!
Brian Kelly to Texas?!
Texas.
Texas?!
Brian Kelly to Texas?!
We talking bout Brian Kelly...to Texas?!"

--Allen Iverson

If Texas would throw Nick Saban type money ( or better ) out at BK then do we really think he would stay @ ND ????? Hell it wouldn't supprise me if they went after Nick Saban and it would proably be a 60 million dollar deal, obviously because of his success so them shelling out 35 to 40 million @ BK would just be a drop in the bucket for them.
