Question. Are you including Mizzu? Keep in mind they are 6-6, but have been banned from a bowl game by the NCAA.

No. Missouri is not counted among the seventy-nine.

From the bowl predictions, some prognosticators have Toledo left standing when the music stops. Eastern Michigan is the other possibility.

The MAC has eight bowl eligible teams. The MAC has five primary bowl tie-ins for the MAC — the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl, the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, and the Mobile Alabama Bowl. There will be three MAC teams looking to fill other conferences' slots.

The MAC is also secondary bowl partners with the Frisco Bowl and the Quick Lane Bowl.

The Frisco Bowl will potentially feature teams from the AAC, Conference USA, the Mountain West, or the MAC. The Quick Lane Bowl has contracts with a Big Ten team vs. an ACC team with the MAC only as a potential backup.

The four MAC teams with 6-6 overall records are Ohio, Kent State, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo. Eastern Michigan and Toledo have the worst conference records (3-5) out of the 6-6 teams. Toledo did beat Eastern Michigan 37-34 in overtime on Oct. 26 at the Glass Bowl.

Looking at the most recent national projections, Mark Schlabach of ESPN has Toledo in the Frisco Bowl against Cincinnati. Fellow ESPN colleague Kyle Bonagura has Toledo in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl against Southern Miss. Bill Bender of Sporting News has Toledo against Louisiana in the Camellia Bowl. Brad Crawford of 247 has Toledo in the First Responders Bowl. They've left Eastern Michigan out.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has Toledo as the one bowl eligible team to miss out on a bowl game, while Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report also left Toledo out of his bowl projections. Jason Lisk of Team Rankings leaves Toledo out.

And Palm is correct. Toledo is Sagarin's 120th ranked team which played the 107th Toughest Schedule. There are only 130 FBS teams. Tossing out the 7 FCS teams Sagarin ranked ahead of Toledo, still puts Toledo as the 113th ranked team.

Yeah I have a hard time believing EMU gets left out after they went to Illinois in September and won. Looking back that was a pretty big upset, Illinois had a pretty decent season for their standards.

I’m trying to understand the fear of facing Texas??

:whoknows::whoknows:

Agreed. All four of those potential opponents are very winnable match-ups for us.

I just want to get to 11-2 and carry as much momentum into the off-season as possible. The last time we won 10+ games and capped the season with a bowl win was 1993. Our fans should be a lot more excited about that prospect than they are.

Serious question. For those of you who don't want to face Texas, why? We would probably run a couple laps around them.

It feels cheap though, like we scheduled our way to the result. Honestly, it reminds me of Virginia Tech in mid 2000's. Pick 2005 for example. They went 11-2, but their best win was against BC (finished about 20 in the polls) and they lost to both Miami and FSU.

All of the elite teams are scheduling their way toward consistent post-season success. I have no qualms about doing that as well, especially since we're still one of the very few programs who has never scheduled an FCS team. No one handed us a moral victory for going 8-4 against some of the murderous schedules we played in the past, so why bother?

Sagarin ranks our 2019 SoS at 34th nationally. Only 8 teams in his top 20 played a harder schedule, and most of those were pretty close to ours. Only 3-- Auburn (2), Texas (4) and Michigan (11)--were much more difficult. So when we finish 11-2 and ranked in the top 10, we will have earned it.

We played 5 teams currently ranked in the top 25. Sagarin has our SOS at 34, tougher than Clemson, Georgia, Bama, Utah, Oregon, Penn State, and Wisconsin.

If we aren't getting a good bowl or a sexy match-up, I'll take the cupcake and an easier win all day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We didn't schedule for SC and Stanford to suck this year.

You really think Oklahoma played a harder schedule than UGA and ND? That Iowa State had the 7th toughest schedule? That is what those ratings would suggest.

I’m not scared of Texas or feel they would beat us,... but you have no idea the level of blow hard I have to deal with with that program,... even the buildup to a UT bowl game would be insufferable,.. no thanks.

It sucks that a giant ad for an outdoors is our prize for this year. Like i said earlier if this were the “camping world *blank* bowl maybe it would feel as cheap. That being said when you get humiliated on national tv by a rival who wasn’t even that good this year maybe this is a good consequence of not being ready for one of your 3 biggest games this year. The win will carry no respect outside this circle of fans so we might as well win it and hope we can get the NY6 monkey off our back next year.

It's also a game that could salvage Herman's season.

I'm hoping for Ok State. I think they'll be out a couple of their offensive studs.

Texas worries me - didn't they hang with LSU? And I don't like that Herman is coaching to stay off of the hot seat.

I'm more concerned with an excellent defensive team like Iowa State than an offense first team like Texas or Oklahoma State.

I think ND would beat any of them but I would love to see some style points and Iowa State is not a brand name, doesn't have a shiny win-loss record, and is really hard to blow out (lost to Baylor and Oklahoma by a combined total of 3 points).

Texas would be a marquee name instead of ISU or OSU, but right now I'm for whichever gets us to 11 wins. That's something to sell to recruits. Recruits aren't going to go back through the schedule and nitpick it apart.

Exactly why I would prefer Texas. Getting to 11 wins while beating the Texas program with Texas recruits watching.

I think ND would be up to put a beatdown on Texas, even with the risk of Herman pulling a "Tom Herman Special" and rallying his troops without an OC or DC to win the bowl game.

I think Oklahoma State's rushing offense could stress our defensive front and make the game a slugfest, and Iowa State is going to make any game ugly.

I think Longhorns are the easiest matchup, AND ND would get some decent pub for piling onto their general disappointment. Just contain their QB and don't let a WR behind you, and you can beat Texas.

I want a team with a number next to their name. Ergo, give me Oklahoma State.

Texas is clearly the biggest wildcard. They hung with LSU, and their only issue is consistency. They also just fired half their coaching staff.

Never know. 50% of the time it rallies the team and the other 50% they tank even more.
