This is one rare occasion where I wish we were full ACC members. We could possibly still get some NY6 love then

Why, so we can back door into the NY6 like Virginia? We had out chance to earn it in Ann Arbor and didn't. I don't think we need a conference to gain respect, especially the ACC.

Lol, bowl tie ins. How about this argument - get rid of the bowls. Who gives a shit about exhibition games? If we aren’t in the playoffs, who cares if it’s the orange bowl or the cheez it bowl - neither matter.

I want to win the bowl but damn is it hard to act like you won something but when the post season trophy you earned is named “camping world”

It sounds silly but you’re 100% correct. I know it’s a sponsorship but I remember when ND was likely going to the Citrus Bowl or the Camping World Bowl after the 2017 season and thinking “Who cares which bowl pays out more, the Citrus Bowl is at least a familiar bowl that people respect...but the Camping World Bowl?!?!?”

Just so we're clear and not asking anyone in particular, but everyone understands the Camping World Bowl is what ND went to in 2011 when it was named the Champs Sports Bowl and they lost to fsu, right?

I agree & most fans may as well but it’s crucial for the extra practice. Outside of CFP & maybe a NY6 bowl, I imagine most coaches (while they want the win) are focusing on the following year w/ that extra practice & live game reps. Also, since NCAA is worthless, bowls are the only legit way to get the kids some free swag.

I believe you are correct. It’s had many names over the years. Even Champs Bowl sounds better.

There will be an 8-team playoff well before we join a conference.

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

This. Which is why joining a conference right now for playoff access would be a mistake. An eight-team playoff sets up nicely for an 11-1/10-2 Notre Dame team to make one of the three at-large spots.

My only beef is that we have ACC bowl tie-ins EXCEPT apparently for the Orange Bowl which likely goes to their middling Coastal winner who probably isn't ranked and who we defeated handily. Seems like a situation that could be corrected, but what do i know?

Tell you this: ND May or may not be appropriately ranked but Utah, Florida, Wisconsin, Penn State, Auburn and Minnesota are trash. Granted, they are top 15 teams as it stands but I would not sweat a head to head with any of them. Not saying ND would win but I sure as hell wouldn’t be looking at any of them as an overwhelmingly talented opponent. They are all whelming,

Based on what an Irish fan thinks or what the committee approves/wants???? No offense brother but what you and I think/believe should happen based on the Irish's record has no bearing on who the committee will vote gets a spot.....

I think ND would smoke Utah, Oregon, Minnesota, or Baylor. On "eye test" ND should be somewhere around 12 right now at worst. On "resume" ND should be around 9th.

Instead... 14th. Makes no sense. Sure as hell makes no sense to see Florida 7th relative to ND's 14th when you compare them head-to-head, and If you changed Bama's name to anything other than Bama they sure as hell wouldn't be 9th.

It is absurd but not so absurd as to cause outrage, if that makes sense. ND is being punished for the last 15 years of bad losses in big games with a rare bright spot here and there. The Weis era: USC losses, OSU in the Fiesta Bowl, etc. Kelly era we all know well. If anything it is like press admitting that if ND had only the loss to UGA they would have to have kept them high against their collective will but courtesy of the inexplicable pounding at UM, the press collectively said “good...now we can put these people in their place”.

And it is crazy because you’re right: they would smoke those teams. To be honest, the only teams I would not want to see them play are OSU, LSU (maybe) and maybe, maybe Alabama. But any of the other teams ahead of them, again, not scared.

Since the Michigan loss we moved up only 2 spots in 6 weeks. That's almost half a season and almost no movement at all when you consider the teams that have lost in that span of time. I think we've shown on the field that the blemish in Ann Arbor was uncharacteristic of this team and not where we really were, but we could never get it out of the minds of the voters.

Do the conf championship games have any effect on bowl placement? Because Wisconsin, Baylor and Oregon could all lose, and we move into top 12.

Absolutely. Still a fair bit of football to be played.

i just know the committee is going to continue to punish us for that loss in ann arbor.

Yep, the score is being held against us. If it had been 7 pts or less, we're sitting around 9 or 10 right now.

So just to be clear, if we are in the top 12 and Clemson beats Virginia we will get the Orange Bowl? Think it's pretty likely we move ahead of 2 of the 3 out of Wisconsin, Baylor, and Oregon

Just based on what has happened in past years.
This year, 10-2 probably doesn’t get us to the Top 8, b/c Michigan debacle and no “marquee” wins, but 11-1 almost certainly does. Other years - with more chaos and/or a better “best” win than 8-4 USC - 10-2 would be enough.
Right now we almost have to go undefeated to make the playoffs (and even last year you saw people questioning us b/c of the “13th data point” or whatever). Expanding to eight with three at-large opens doors for an independent Notre Dame, is my point.

we would need to be in the top 12, and no acc team is ranked in top 25 i believe. Still seems unlikely.

II posted an interview with an Orange Bowl member saying this was possible. However, Prister, who I believe posted the story, came out and said this is actually incorrect. The Orange Bowl cannot get out of the ACC tie-in by any loophole.

The only other possibility at this point is the Citrus. We need Wisconsin to beat OSU and Georgia to beat LSU and then we could go to Citrus. If that doesn't happen, then it's the Camping Bowl

Curious how that helps us move up. That would prevent anybody from moving below us bc those would both be upsets. I assume it has to do with the bowl tie ins but not sure

What's odd is ND has the ACC vs. SEC/Big Ten/ND tie-in to the Orange Bowl. They are predicting Virginia (even with ACC Championship Loss) Vs. Penn State. And with the loss at Clemson will probably drop Virginia out of the top 25 (they are 22 now) and will be in at 9-4.

So - technically, the committee could choose the Irish to play Penn State and make a fortune and Miami businesses around the stadium would get rich overnight.

The network difference in commercial rate would be $1.9 / 2.2M per 30 second spot to $2.8 / 3.5M per 30 sec spot.

Because everyone will be tuning in to see a 9-4 Virginia team.

This is inaccurate. No team outside the ACC can take the ACC slot. It has to go to an ACC team no matter the ranking and record (this is according to every article I’ve read)

Does it not matter that ND is a partial member (or however you want to put it) of the ACC?
