So that pretty much means it’s going to happen. Gonna suck listening to all the Gator fans brag at work about how they killed us.

We have never played Auburn. Ever. So in that respect it would be interesting.

But I'm afraid they would just out athlete us. Florida probably would too. Neither team would be good for us. We need a good matchup.

I think we're pretty much on par w UF and Auburn athlete to athlete. I remember being worried about the LSU citrus bowl a couple years ago. And music city bowl before that, but we won em both. Only 4-5 teams imo have better rosters than ND and theyll all be in or vying for playoff spots.

I disagree. I feel like with the team we have if we get matched up with an SEC team it’ll be like the Sugar Bowl against LSU. We have really only looked good against bad and mediocre teams. Someone like Florida or Auburn is just an all around better team than what we have this year. In 2017 I had my doubts but with the exception of the fall off at the end of the year we had more quality wins and held our own against some of the best in college football. The aforementioned SEC teams are better than the teams we have had our best wins against (USC, VT, UVA, and Navy) and they’re better than a team that took us to the woodshed in primetime. I see that matchup being more of a 07 Sugar Bowl or 2016 Fiesta Bowl type scenario where we just got out against a team that is just flat out better than what we have to offer that year.

So similar to the beat Notre Dame had when they went down to UGA this year...But that was a 6 point loss with a chance to take the lead in the final drive. So according to your logic UGA is not as good as Florida and Auburn since those teams would take the Irish behind the woodshed correct? But, Georgia beat Florida this year. And Georgia beat Auburn at Auburn this year. So your logic doesn’t hold true.

I think we could well struggle to move the ball against those teams, especially given the injuries on our offensive line. But neither Florida nor Auburn has a particularly scary offense. I'd figure a low-scoring 17-14 type game that could go either way.

You're smarter than to actually believe in the transitive property in college football though.

I don’t believe in the transitive property. Just trying to say if Notre Dame was able to hang with Georgia at Georgia they can hang with Florida and Auburn and not get blown out:

I have no doubt that ND could beat Florida or Auburn. I've seen both play enough this year to know that the ND defense will, at minimum, keep the game close against those teams.

Agree with Sherm and Lax here. Auburn and Florida have their own struggles on offense. Our defense would keep them in the upper teens to lower 20s, at most. We would absolutely have a chance against either of them. Hell, we may even be favored in both matchups.

Some mention in Dallas Morning News today that UT may be in the mix for Camping World Bowl. Thought the leading Big 12 team was Iowa State, which BTW beat UT, but someone said Bowl is not locked to any one team, can pick any from the conference.

Agreed. The only way they score in bunches is if either defense gives Book fits and can get their offense good field position, which wouldn't be shocking.

If ND/Book plays a relatively clean game like they did against Georgia, I'd take ND.

Watch Texas pull some shit in a bowl against ND like they did last year against Georgia.

According to Douglas Farmer at NBCSports, ND still looking like Camping World Bow unless UGA & Wisky can win next week. Okie St most likely opponent.

Interesting chain of comments from the ND/Stanford post game thread over on reddit.

Rumor has it if ND gets ranked 12th or higher and no ACC team other than Clemson ends up ranked ND makes the orange bowl under the ACC slot.

I read they still had to take an ACC team even if no one else is ranked.

Soo a couple of weeks ago Herbie off the cuff mentioned ND and the orange bowl and ND writers thought he was insane Then the orange bowl committee showed up to the ND v Navy game. A ND reporter posted this morning an article with an interview with one of those on the orange bowl selection committee If there is no ranked ACC teams eligible for the orange bowl (read Clemson is in the playoff) and ND is in the top 12, ND can take the ACC slot

Same poster also made a breakdown of what it would take for us to end up at 12.

With Auburn winning it sure made it alot harder

But ND is going to jump the loser of the Baylor v Oklahoma rematch. If Utah wins ND will jump Oregon (should have already been ahead). Might jump Utah if Oregon wins.

Michigan is probably going to fall behind ND tuesday (fair or not I see that happening).

Then the only real fuckery is whether or not ND jumps Wiscy if they lose in a rematch to OSU

Tinfoil hat time though- ND will end up at exactly 12 because the orange bowl prefers ND versus unranked UVA

......and then the fun part. Our opponent would be the highest out of the #2 SEC team or #2 Big10 team not in the playoffs.

Almost certainly Bama.......

Based on what I saw today any of the three d lines from the aforementioned SEC teams would murder ND’s current o line. Saban all pissed off with a couple weeks to prepare would not be a good matchup.

Not sure we can get to 12. I think we'll end up 13 after conference title games are played but who knows.

If the ACC wants it to happen it will happen. ND over a 4 loss non ranked Virginia is better business for everyone involved.

I would gladly take the Camping World Bowl if the Orange Bowl comes with a matchup vs Bama

Nah give me the big boy matchup. Camping World doesn't move the needle at all and Bama actually looks mortal this year minus Tua.

Nick Saban's record against Auburn is now 10-8. All 10 wins were against an Auburn team that finished the year with 8 wins or less. All 8 loses were against an Auburn team that finished the year with 9 wins or more. Saban has never beaten a ranked Auburn on the road

Bama’s best win this season is 5-loss Texas A&M, they finish with zero wins against ranked teams, and only two wins against teams that even finished above .500 (TAMU, So Miss).

Per Sagarin's rankings, Bama had the 53rd toughest schedule. Actually pretty typical for them for the regular season. Their SOS always gets a big boost from the SEC CG and playoffs. They are experts at "managing" their schedule for optimal results.
