Part of this is turning a blind eye to what your players do as long as you're winning. Part of it is recruiting these types of players: long on talent and short on character. If you recruit a few players who come from rough backgrounds and are borderline guys, and then surround them with 80 other good kids, lay down firm rules, teach them, and hold them accountable, you'll turn most of them into success stories. OTOH, if most of your players are inclined to go down the wrong path, there aren't enough good kids in your program, and you couldn't care less about how they behave as long as you're winning, you end up being a Baylor.
Everything about this situation and Briles screams shut that program down and see that Briles and the others who let this happen never set foot on a college campus again.
