So, can we agree that it's a good idea to ban users who continuously post conspiracy theory nonsense and other such blather? Although, I think there's going to be a real divide between what passes the nonsense test.
We are hands off in politics threads by design. With that being said, there are basically three things you can do to get yourself warned or banned:
1. Egregious personal attacks or actual threats of violence. Lighter stuff usually gets a warning or a post deleted, really bad stuff will get you banned.
2. Racism. Again, really clear cut stuff will get you banned, stuff open to interpretation that gets reported by another user you’ll usually get a chance to edit/clarify.
3. Conspiracy theories or other radical nonsense. Anyone who wants to promote QAnon, ANTIFA, Proud Boys, etc. or link their content is going to get banned. We temp banned someone today who posted a conspiracy theory and linked to a site where content included blogs about the “deep state” going to deploy dirty bombs against Trump and other insane drivel. It also included rhetoric about a “firing line” with bullet hole graphics in the header. If you want to traffic in that crap, find somewhere else to post.
We are not going to over police that section. Everyone is entitled to their views and opinions. And if they make people uncomfortable or lead to arguments then so be it. But when we get a reported post, the above is how we generally judge how it needs to be addressed.
