I met Koon at an ND game. Was different in person than on-line... Not sure if he just let things snowball here or what.

He didn't have the chest to pull shit off in person. Like most people that spout off vileness across the internet, they take on a much different tone when they are in person without the protection of a screen or a crowd.

I was actually about to post the same thing when I read that. I remember back a few years ago (like 6 I think) when LA used to post more frequently. I thought he was much more like LAX who may have differing opinions, but always seemed to back it up with good information or thoughts. LAX, I think, has mastered that posting style with much more concrete and objective thoughts/stats/anecdotal evidence to back it up, whereas I felt that LA were more subjective if I remember correctly. Regardless, both LAX and LA are 2 of my favorite posters on this board, even if I don't initially agree with their premise.

Koon had his moments where I could see his train of thought, which I appreciated just like any other poster that does the same. But more often than not, he just threw ideas out with no substance to see who he could get a reaction out of. I would never compare him to LA.

Because he rubs A LOT of people wrong. He went out of his way to correct me on something he felt he was an expert on when I was new here. My PM box lit up with posters who had prior run in's with him.

I was actually about to post the same thing when I read that. I remember back a few years ago (like 6 I think) when LA used to post more frequently. I'm not really comparing Manny to Koon. I'm just pointing out that NDinLA rubbed some posters wrong at times, but he's actually a real cool dude. Someone said something similar about Koon being a nice guy offline, and I know condomsSUCk said Koon actually had him in his wedding party. Both guys are very different posters though. Just making a point that posters are often different in real life than their online personas.

There are quite a few things that have gone by the wayside over the years on IE...

Perhaps the one I miss the most is NDinLA's "from preseason camp" practice reports when he was allowed to sit in and watch fall practice with ND faculty and staff.

Fall camp would start, and we'd eat up the 30-second clips and the "[Frosh] looks GREAT already!" stories from the ND beat writers. Then things would hit the dog days of camp and the media availability would dwindle...

Then NDinLA would come in like two weeks later with a "Here's how these guys ACTUALLY look during camp" post that would be like three pages worth of content in Microsoft Word, it would save us from the drought of practice info, and it was really a "It feels like it's almost football season for real!" moment each summer.

I just remember Koon bashed Adams for being slow. Then when he was in the middle of his good season and there was Heisman hype.. Koon was all about him but when he fell off the last few games, Koon was bragging i TOLD YOU SO.. I don't mind hot takes, but you can't play both sides.. that is the annoying stuff that would annoy me with him...

I do not like Ian Book.. Would rather have Phil but if Book leads us to a win on Nov 7. I will admit I was wrong

I think most posters are like that, especially trolls. I know NDinLA rubbed some people wrong here, but he is a pretty cool dude off the board. I had extra tickets for the Navy game in 2011 or 2013, we had a good time...crappy weather aside. He still drops in here on occasion.

Never had issue with LA. But yea, I also think the board can be a bit like family when you put people together, some for 10 or more years. I've met several from the board, and all have been cool/kind in person.

IDK. I sense a feeling we have all been lulled into low NC expectations, camouflaged with a faux superiority complex from beating chumps, looking good occasionally vs a contender, and then falling back to "winning is hard", "ND is at a disadvantage", "but the others are football factories that don't play fair", etc. when we get thumped vs a tier 1 team. Not sure the outrage would be strong....

Don't get me wrong, I like wining 10+ and "being in the conversation", but even I have set my expectations accordingly that it will take all the planets aligning + a messiah QB to begin to believe we're a tier 1 team.

I think the 2016-17 season could easily happen again if our schedule was tougher. When's the last time we beat a top 10 team. 16/17 was a defensive fail obviously vs the run mostly so at least I don't see that happening again anytime soon.
