I love this debate.

11-1 Notre Dame would make the CFB Playoff. Period.

Teams will lose. OU just lost to Iowa State. No matter how heinous it seems to imagine Team X and Team Y losing, some will lose.

Clemson. Meet Team X.

Just win baby.

Well, Chip Kelly just put ND at #5 on his board on ESPN. Gotta admit, it was nice seeing the ND emblem on the board.

We're all setting ourselves up for heartbreak. I was slightly less hyped at the beginning of the season because I figured we wouldn't be good, then the Georgia loss just solidified my opinion. Since then though ND has slowly been ratcheting up my excitement again. Eventually I'm going to be fully on board and we will inevitably lose a head scratcher and kill it all.

I agree. I don't believe we're a top 5 team but seeing ND as one of the 10 to choose was good to see. I'll say this, I'm beginning to think the teams ahead of us aren't that much better.

Our schedule is tough ahead but if we can find some semblance of a passing game we may be as good as any.

Yeah, TBH not wild about all the hype that has developed since last weekend. Remember 2014? There's a lot of season ahead.

What negative effect will the hype have?

On the field? It depends on the character of our team. Though in my experience (20+ years of fandom) Notre Dame tends to do best when expectations are lowest.

For us fans? Crippling disappointment if this team crumples in the tougher back half of the season. We went from "Fire Kelly!" to practically ooking hotel rooms for the playoff awfully quick around here. Could be pretty nasty if, say, we lose three of the next four and it swings back the other way.

If we lose three of the last four its going to get nasty no matter what.

Good lord we've turned into scared women. Afraid of "heartbreak"? Let's go out and kick some ass. Bring the hype!

I'm okay with the hype, nice to have something to hype TBH. I'll moderate my expectations based on the USC game (passing, big time hype game) and some of the NCSU game (our o-line vs their d-line).

With out a better passing game we could end up 8-4.

Might as well live in the hype and hope it pans out. I don't care to moderate my expectations anymore. Notre Dame is 5-1 and looks good. I feel confident ND can hang with any team in the country outside of Alabama. We all feel nervous/down about ND because we watch them and care about them but frankly...no team in the country really looks unbeatable. Why be afraid? Whatever is going to happen is going to happen but I know ND has looked pretty damn good over the first 6 weeks.

Bet on. More than 2 teams will be undefeated this year.

It hasn't even been a week and this post is already aging very poorly lol

How high do we think we move this week? Really wish we would have curb stomped someone instead of having a bye. I'm hoping we don't get stuck behind someone just because we were idle.

WSU and Auburn for sure. Washington is questionable. Clemson unlikely.

However if we actually compared wins and losses we should pass all of them. We easily have the best loss. I think we should pass Oklahoma too.

It will be interesting to see where we are ranked this week to be sure. I just hope we beat the crap out of USC next week. Top ten the following week for sure if we handle our business.

Yucky question... do we root for Michigan @ Penn State next week?

I don't think it's necessary. Penn State won't make it through those next 3 games regardless. Best case is that they lose to MSU obviously and knock out OSU for good.

Hoping for #13 in AP. USC should be #10. Miami up to #8 I'd assume.

Besides Navy losing, this was a pretty perfect weekend for our playoff chances.

A team like Virgina tech I don't know how can be ranked higher than us after this weekend, their loss was by 14 to Clemson who will drop in the rankings ours is a 1 point loss to Georgia who will be either 2 or 3. We have better wins against better teams 1 being ranked Michigan State

Yeah, I expected the "not too important polls" to have it #10 U$C vs #13 ND on Sat. Though Navy lost a close one to Memphis, they can right back in IF they can knock off top 25 UCF at home next weekend. A Navy in would bold well for the Irish IF they could win out.

Come back from vacation and everyone talking about playoffs... truth is no one is going to have any clear picture of scenarios until week 9. Conveninetly, by that point we'll also be through USC and NC State and have a better idea whether ND will even be in the conversation. The next 6 games are a murderers row.

At this rate, by week 9, it'll be Alabama and the 110 dwarfs.

But, yeah, it's nice to see us in the conversation at this point, but hard to take too seriously until the next couple of games play out.
That said, if we win out and Miami does too, holy hell will that game be hyped.

Yeah, the nice thing is we will get an opportunity to prove we belong. If ND wins out, I think it is fine. They have just a brutal schedule.
