So apparently they've changed the Greedo scene again on Disney Plus so now Greedo has another line of dialogue and they both shoot at the same time....

Where in the actual fuck is the original trilogy. I didn't think Disney would say no to money just to be stubborn like Lucas.

I've got them. I'm still annoyed I don't have an official box set to own and am especially annoyed that friends and family that are less techie than me don't have access to this. The OT is an absurdly important set of films in history, and the average person isn't able to watch them without suffering through the whims of a mediocre filmmaker getting carte blanche to do whatever he wants with 90s level special effects.

It's stupid that Steamboat Willie is treated with reverence but Star Wars is some continuing project that can be altered yearly, particularly ESB since the director of that movie (one of the greatest movies all time) is now dead.

I watched Empire the other day - on a DVD version I bought several years back. They've probably added more since - with my kids. The stuff they added doesn't even really add anything. It's just extended beginnings and endings of scenes to give you a little more background of Cloud City or whatever.
But it's so clunkily done - granted, my CGI-addled kids probably didn't even notice. It's stupid. Messing with a canonical movie just because you can.

Lucas didn't add stuff for some greater creative vision. He wanted to screw his ex wife out of the money she would be owed from the profits from those old versions.

The irony is that her editing is the entire reason the original trilogy was a success.

Ok so is baby today actually, YODA,... if so this show isn’t about Boba Fett then? Because that dynamic makes zero sense,...

Anyone want to give a no-spoiler review? Is the critic consensus bullshit?

The critic consensus for TLJ was 90%+ favorable, but it was rather universally loathed by fans. I've heard a couple good notes about the movie from people who saw it with the main drag being "controversy" not massive plot holes or terrible characters. So I'm wondering if there is a big disconnect between fans and critics again.

I saw a critic review yesterday calling it the worst Star Wars ever because it dared undo so much of the damage the OG Star Wars films rightfully had done to them by TLJ. It was rightfully done because the generation that loved those films was responsible for being two real life Palpatines in GW Bush and Trump to power, so fuck then. Johnson was an American hero for tearing those jack wagon’s childhood down and deserves better than this giant monument to Trump of a film gives him.....

So yeah,... there’s a bit of a disconnect??

It was awesome. I hated TLJ and absolutely loved it. I can't stop thinking about how good it was given what they had to work with. It is going to be as rewatchable as the original trilogy. I mentioned this in the Spoilers thread but TLJ numbed me to some of the crazy Jedi shit so to the minor extent there was some of that going on in TROS I didn't care at all. There was only one scene towards the end where I rolled my eyes a little (involves horses) but otherwise everything that happened was properly foreshadowed. Watch the Mandalorian beforehand, if possible. It's not critical but it helps..

It moves very fast. I ran to the bathroom at one point and probably missed something important. The new characters are likeable. It's funny (laughed out loud a few times). It's sad (almost cried 3 different times). I want to go back and watch Episodes 1-6 (yes all of them), the Clone Wars, and Rebels. I want to play The Force Unleashed again and the Knights of the Old Republic. I am excited to be a Star Wars fan again.

The reviews I read didn't even try to hide the fact that they hated it because there wasn't enough SJW content. Apparently if a major cinematic release doesn't feature extensive political commentary it can't be good.

Rotten Tomatoes score is 85% for audiences right now. TLJ by comparison was 43%.

The weird part is that Marvel never gets dinged for that same criticism.

I split TLJ into thirds.

Luke-Rey-Kylo: A+
Poe-Holdo-Leia: C
Finn-Rose-BB8: F

That's a good take. Everything that's come out of Disney Star Wars has been a C thus far for me, other than The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian might be the best "not a book" Star Wars since ESB.

This is interesting, because the dudes that are most hateful of TLJ (to the point of being legit assholes about a movie) are generally off the deep end about the way they treated Luke.

They hate Holdo being revered as a leader that would dare dismiss Poe (I could argue either way about that), and they hate Leia using a Force-pull and Force-bubble to save herself (even though those are canon powers), but they HATE that Luke didn't actually chop anyone down with a lightsaber.

They'll say it's because Rian Johnson totally changed Luke's character... but really it's because Old Man Luke didn't get to pwn any noobs.

I love grumpy hermit Luke and I absolutely love the way he went out. It was set up perfectly by Kylo talking to Rey (you're not doing this, the effort would kill you) and it echoes Obi-Wan in A New Hope (if you strike me down...)

I defend the Holdo Maneuver and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

Poe is a hothead fighter pilot, he's not a commander. That's the whole point.

I'm fine with Leia using the powers in principle, but I hate the goofy CGI they used to execute it. It looks horrible.

People who think Star Wars is about chopping people down with lightsabers don't understand Star Wars. Empire Yoda >>> Prequel Yoda. Sidious never used a lightsaber (on screen). Etc.

They'll say it's because Rian Johnson totally changed Luke's character... but really it's because Old Man Luke didn't get to pwn any noobs.
Yes, and they're stupid.

"What? I'm gonna walk out with a laser sword and face down the whole First Order? What did you think was going to happen here?"

Luke couldn't have done that. If he had, it would have been OP video game ridiculousness. So he did what he did but created the LEGEND that he did, in fact, walk out with a laser sword and faced down the whole First Order, as revealed in the final scene with the stable kids. He was the spark that lit the fire that blah blah blah.

I saw it last night. It was difficult to follow at times simply because the plot had to be rushed along to cover so much ground that TLJ should have dealt with. There are scenes that will make you laugh, and want to cry, and jump up and say "hell yeah!" There are also some head scratching scenes and eye-rollers but those are fewer and farther between. And Rey and Kylo are very good but then a couple times I thought, "Again, really?" Overall, B+. JJ had to wrap up 40 years of films in a way that made sense and was satisfying to fan boys and lay people alike. I think he did about as well as I could have hoped.
