It's not about the games, which have been some classics, for sure.

It's two-fold... one, as evidenced last year where we were about to get left out of the CFB in favor of Oklahoma despite our only loss being to #1 Clemson, Notre Dame basically has to run the table to get a sniff. So adding a tough game onto a slate that already features FSU/Stanford/USC/etc. isn't very pragmatic.

Two, and I have to be frank here, but the game isn't that much fun for many of our fans because your collective fan base is a bunch of assholes*. When we play one of our other rivals (see: USC, Stanford, etc.) you can attend the game without fearing for your safety. You can't do that in Ann Arbor, because you guys are assholes. When we play a "neutral" prime time matchup @Oklahoma or @Clemson we get all the atmosphere... with classy but passionate fans. There aren't massive hypocrite writing "Hi Lizzy Seeberg" on a Game Day sign and pontificating afterwards how a "Michigan Man" would never stand for such a thing (ironically while your university tries to make Gibbons and Lewan go away as quietly as possible, and lie about the reason for Gibbons absence). They don't have their head coaches calling us "chicken" (lolHoke) for having to scramble with scheduling arrangements due to changing conference affiliation. They don't employ gaping dickholes like Dave Brandon, so it's possible to have an adult conversation with their leadership. Most other schools don't worship a KKK sympathizer who was such an anti-Catholic bigot it's truly sickening... yet you name buildings after him and pretend it didn't happen... it's almost as bad as PedoState fans trying to white wash Paterno.

So yeah... most of us would rather play someone like Texas or Georgia or Florida than rehash a tired series with a school that has has asshole, belligerent fans with the alpha asshole head coach at the helm.

*You honestly seem like a perfectly fine dude and pretty much every Michigan engineer I've ever worked with is a fine dude... I really don't know where your unwashed masses come from that throw bottles at visiting fans and such. But your fans on game day are literally the worst I've ever experienced in person and that includes Ohio State.

I've still got a scar from catching a beer bottle to the back of my head in Ann Arbor. I have no problem with TomHaverford, and have enjoyed many of his posts here. But the 2003 ND-Michigan game was by far the single worst experience I've ever had at a college football game; that, alongside the bitter history between our two programs, means I have a strong preference for just letting the series die.

Yes, all of these things. I really just don't need the aggravation in my life of playing Michigan any more. It doesn't help the program or the university at this point, and it is really not fun for me to go there emotionally or physically.

On the other hand ...

There is just something about it.

Michigan 2016 WR signee Brad Hawkins heading to prep school, not enrolling

ANN ARBOR – Michigan's 2016 recruiting class is now reduced by one.

Brad Hawkins, a 2016 four-star wide receiver/safety from Camden High School in New Jersey, tweeted Friday afternoon that he will be going to prep school for a year, meaning he won't be enrolling at Michigan.

"I will be balling at Suffield Academy next year for a prep year," Hawkins tweeted. Shortly later, he tweeted "Another year to better my self I think I made a good decision."

Hawkins is from Camden, N.J. and a teammate of Ron Johnson, another '16 signee. Michigan was Hawkins' only OV last year and was recruited by Chris Partridge, former head coach at New Jersey's Paramus Catholic High School. Hawkins was Michigan's twenty-first commitment on July 3, 2015,

My heart wants this, but my head says this is a stupid move. Should have looked to add a series with another Texas team for recruiting purposes. Would be funny if Harbaugh is gone by 2018, like going back to the NFL.

Would not have done this and just don't like these guys. Harbaugh will give his own blood to win these games and in the past their refs have been too slanted pro big ten on their calls. Let them go pound salt.

Wow that is pretty awful.

that's just like, your opinion, man.

I like it a hell of a lot better than adidas gear. or Under Armour. They both suck ass.

I love Jordan shoes and gear. AS do most young people. What age are the recruits? 16-18. They'll eat the Jordan shit up. They aren't waiting on the new adidas or Under Armour gear. They wait outside in lines for Jordan stuff though.

This. If you guys want to look at a basketball player on your uniforms or whatever all year so that you can get like a 0.0005% boost in recruiting more power to you.

Jordan is the Audi to Nike's Volkswagen.

It is the luxury brand of the biggest apparel company in the world. They are trying to expand that brand. It makes perfect sense.

He's not just a basketball player. He's arguably the greatest and most famous athlete ever.

Under Armour has been eating Nike's lunch for the past couple years... especially among the younger kids.

Jordan for a football team makes no sense on any level, and looks really dumb.

Apparel sales will take a hit IMO. Sure 16-18 kids love Jordan brand stuff, but could you honestly see a grown man wearing ANYTHING that's Jordan brand? I feel like a good chunk already hate wearing the swoosh as it is.

awful. Harbaugh should be ashamed to attach himself to that video.

still not as bad as.....

https://bcclist.com/2010/04/30/we-are-nd-embarassing-notre-dame-video-freekbass/

Not a good video, but nothing is more embarrassing than a middle aged white guy trying to look cool in a video.

Jordan shoes are the big craze among younger kids, not the rest of the apparel. You can defend it all you want, but it looks dumb in a football context.

I think it's cool for the basketball program (even though Jordan is a Tar Heel) but bad for football.

Nothing Harbaugh is about is targeted to seem cool to us old people. Everything he does is snickered at by old people, but loved by the kids, and that's the goal. This is no different.

Maybe you haven't been paying attention but kids are starting to dress differently. They all want to look like the NBA players before/after games who wear designer clothing.

Jordan shoes are still popular but you don't see kids wearing sweats all the time. They dress up.

Disagree. I asked some of my kid's friends their thoughts (college sophomores and juniors) with some of them being Michigan fans. All but one thought he looked ridiculous and did not like the video.

Yeah, I have a little brother in high school right now. They're more concerned with designer clothes and hairstyles than they are basketball shoes these days. The cool thing is to look as nice as possible at all times.

(When I was in high school, we were all hesitant to do anything that required to dress in more than shorts and a tshirt... but maybe we were just slobs)

Don't get me wrong, they all still want to grab the coolest basketball shoes (if they play basketball), but it's no longer a guarantee that "Jordan" is dropping the shoe that they all want for that season nowadays, either. Hell, most people that get their hands on the new Jordans these days are just middle-aged sneaker-heads that collect shoes to not wear.

Jordans aren't really a "cool kid" thing anymore. At least not around my area.

Marketing "Nike" and "Jordan" doesn't target high school kids quite as pointedly as it might have in years past.

To be fair, being Jordan branded for basketball is cool as hell and going to be awesome. I just think it's silly to have "Jumpman" on a football jersey.

This. You wouldn't put Babe Ruth's likeness/image on golf or soccer apparel, that would just be stupid. Anyone claiming otherwise is reaching for justification.

Kills me that they needed to say "harbaugh designed it" when its one fucking color with two small logos. What was designed? Colors and logos already existed.

It was essentially do u want the M on the left or the right.
