I can’t believe I’m about to say this but…

That would be a nice landing spot for him. Lawrence is turning a corner and they have a nice young core.

Kincaide being drafted over him though is a literal war crime. The guy was Utah’s third string TE at beginning of season

what a joke and slap in the face that this would be as he is a top 15 worthy pick to me
He may be one of the 15 best players in the draft but also he is a tight end. They just don’t tend to get drafted all that high.

I agree with you, this would be a perfect spot for Mayer, he is not going to a terrible team. Lawrence and the Jags are going to get better & Mayer will certainly help them.

I know hardly anyone on the board wants to see this happen, but a guy like Mayer with his high football IQ and contested catch rate, character, etc: watch him land in Green Bay at #15. They're going to fall in love with him during the draft process and they only have one TE under contract heading into the offseason, Josiah Deguara (shoutout to Lion's Bearcats), who hardly ever lines up as an in-line TE or even split out. He's basically a fullback.

Robert Tonyan hasn't been the same since the ACL in 2021 and Mercedes Lewis is a glorified tackle (albeit a pretty darn good one). This is a big time need and he'd contribute immediately.

Kiper likes him to the Packers at 15. I'd hate to see that ever happen....

Rodgers desperately needs weapons. He has been reduced to Michelangelo without anything to paint with.
Since Mayer is mainly a body position and strength-win receiver (Baby Gronk was accurate), he needs a QB who intuits that he will win exactly there and exactly now, and put the ball where Mayer will outcompete the DB/LB. Rodgers is great at that sort of before-it-happens decision-making and placement. Mayer would super-succeed with Rodgers. MM also has FANTASTIC hands. Rodgers really likes his guys not to drop the ball.

Plus, I don't want MM outcompeting our boy Kmet nor our boy Wright, nor any of our other TEs in the pros.

That’s assuming Rodgers is in Green Bay next year

If you watched Matt LaFluer's and their GM's press conferences after the season concluded, and you heard Rodgers' interview on the Pat McAfee show yesterday, you'll see it clear as day that both sides WANT 12 back in GB, should Rodgers decide to come back and play. Rodgers said himself that those faux "reports" from Schefter (once again) and others are purely conjecture. He even hinted that he'd be open to a restructure if he decides to come back to lower his cap hit.

I'll bet all the Vbucks, Schrute bucks or real bucks that if he comes back, it's with GB. The media has gotten everything wrong in regards to Rodgers in the offseason since 2020, starting with Schefter, who I think is a total ass.

Are there QBs in the NFL who don't really like their guys to not drop the ball?

It doesn’t matter if Rodgers is the starter or Love is. This would be a great pick for them. It gives Rodgers a huge weapon and a red zone threat. Love is gives him a security blanket for a first time starter. Both great situations for Mayer.

I agree with this 100%. They have invested heavily on the defensive side of the ball the past 5 or 6 drafts and are still outside the top 10 defensively. Their secondary is the strength of the team, and beyond Reshan Gary, they don't have much depth at EDGE. I could see them going for a DLineman, but I hope they dont.

I think it's about time they invest in someone offensively (they haven't drafted a first round skill player besides QB since 2002, which was Javon Walker), and TE is a major, major need. Could argue it's a bigger need than WR after Christian Watson had a monster second half of the season and should continue his ascent in year two. Romeo Doubs was having a nice first half of the season before the injury bug bit him.

I think they'll draft another WR or two, but TE is serious flaw, and Mayer is a plug and play starter day one. TE of the future, without question.

To the empty comment about no QBs liking their receivers to drop the ball: anyone knowing NFL football knows that Rodgers ABOVE ALL other QBs puts receivers in his doghouse if they show that he can't count on them. He gets away with ignoring certain guys more than others because he is the best at throwing guys open, and therefore can make do. Watson began in his doghouse and worked his way out (probably in practice.) This attitude that he has is the only reason that his buddy (whatever the old receiver's name is) still gets on the field some. Rodgers trusts him to catch the ball if he gets open. (it's the "if" that's the problem with almost all these guys.) Watson began catching the ball, so Rodgers preferentially began to look for him --- thus the "remarkable" later season results by Watson. Watch Rodgers' eyes after a drop or bad route. If the guy is in the doghouse, that's a bad look. If the guy has been doing better, Rodgers will go over and give him a friendly tap. Rodgers is a "Bad Man" in the old terminology and a hard taskmaster --- very low level of tolerance for lack of simple competencies. That is something, physically and mentally, that he'd never have to worry about with Mayer.

Selfishly, I hope he falls a bit since he will measure shorter than expected and turn in a “concerning” 40 time.

He’d be the perfect target for Joe Burrow, and would complete the Bengals offense next year (if they can keep Higgins around and get continued development from Jackson Carman).

Id bet about every playoff contending QB is hoping he falls to their time.

The draft analysts can rarely stick w/ the original narrative. Seems most of the mocks have Kincaid as top TE after hearing that Mayer was the top talent for over a year. I’m sure Kincaid is good & maybe he’s better than Mayer? What about the Washington kid at UGA? Some have him & Kincaid going before Mayer. I’m biased but I hate that he’s dropping behind others have a helluva career. Then again I didn’t understand why Clausen, Manti & Kizer dropped to the 2nd round after being discussed as 1st rounders but none of them panned out so I guess they were right.
