IrishLion's younger brother.

Tyler Eifert 2.0. TE who doesn't line up attached. Very good athlete as you can see in tweet below.

State Champions 15-0 in 5A out of 6A.

Older brother AJ is a 3* QB in '18 who just signed with the mighty Miami Redskins. Had 3100 yds / 40 TD / 3 Int / 450 yds rushing. Was the KY 5A POTY.

I'll step in for IrishLion on this one.

Northern Kentucky is a WEIRD place. It's not Cincinnati and it's not rural KY. It has a major identity crisis because it sits in between those two distinct areas.

For college athletics, it tends to be favorable to UK rather than UC or Xavier. And the culture around the Catholic high schools isn't "I want to go to Notre Dame!" like it is at many of the midwest Catholic schools in Cincy, St. Louis, Chicago, etc. The region is pretty ambivalent towards ND, except for the fact that ND couldn't cut it in the SEC. So basically, don't expect a Northern Kentucky recruit to have a strong desire to go to ND like kids from Moeller or St. Xavier in Cincy.

Mayer may be very pro-ND, but it's not as likely simply because he lives on the Confederate side of the Ohio River.

That said, he plays for a very good football team in NKY.

If he wasn’t playing football in Kentucky, he’d already be a household name nationally and on the radar as “future 5-Star” due to crazy upside at both TE and DE. He can be an Eifert if he keeps the weight off intentionally, but a lot of people locally think his highest upside at the next level will be DE if he keeps hitting the weight room and stays on the bulk-up diet.

Rack Em basically touched ‘em all on the situation in NKY. He’s not necessarily going to be favorable to ND just because he’s a catholic kid in Greater Cincinnati. I’ve got a couple of buddies on the coaching staff at CovCath, so I’ll try to get the scoops when opportunity arises over the next 2.5 years (lol).

Updated his offer list in Crusader's OP. He just got an LSU offer, in addition to adding a Penn State offer (and others) last month.

He's got family ties to LSU. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend if that's a big deal or not.

He's also up to 230 lbs now, via local chatter.

Bama offered.

He’s got some local folk in his ear about how Stanford is the perfect situation; LSU and Bama were the two big offers that he was waiting for; he’s got a head coach that will probably do what he can to pitch ND... we’ll see.

Now Lind's in on the OSU CB action.

Just wait until the ND TE's have 1000+ yds this fall.

I hear ND is the favorite. "It's a matter of who can pry him away."

I was getting nervous... there was a lack of local chatter in the coaching circles that I am familiar with, aside from some pro-Stanford commentary that made me cringe.

Still think this is going to be a tough pull. NKY isn't exactly an ND hotbed. Lots of mouth breathing UK fans.

It's not, but Covington Catholic is a bit different, especially with their current head coach, who comes from an ND-loving family.

I also think the NKY love affair with UK football went a bit cold with Drew Barker and Damien Harris.

Barker was supposed to be the Commonwealth's Football Savior, leading the Wildcats to SEC East glory... but he was a super douche, and flamed out. (I've got some doozy stories of that kid's time in Lexington)

Everyone who was anyone had an inside connection that said Harris was going to stay home and be a hometown hero, even after the national guys started to hear that he was bound for Bama. Then he broke all their hearts and went to Bama.

^^That's why I dislike it when i hear everyone around a kid wants him to stay home and like you said be the hometown hero.

I'm not going to let you dictate my future just because you're a 35 year-old still wearing your varsity jacket drinking natty light in your momma's family room that just wants to see your home team finally not keep getting their asses kicked. I'm gonna do what's best for me and in some cases getting as far away from that scene is what's best and some kids do just that.

Damien Harris is from Berea so thats not NKY at all. I would say its at least a 3 hour drive from covington if not more.
My former gym teacher HS baseball coach was his AD at Madison Southern. He told me he was going to BAMA for a few months before he commited.

But yes Drew Barker was the worst, Patrick Towles didn't help the situation much either. He was basically ran out of town.

I can tell you, it's 3 coloring books, 2 Brazier's, 1 Stuckey's and 6 bathroom stops from Paducah to Pikeville. My yearly pre-parkway trek across the Commonwealth as a mini Crusader. May as well have been Texas.

Google maps says two hours between the two but regardless Berea is southern KY. 3 hours from Covington to Williamsburg right above the TN state line.

I didn’t mean Harris was from NKY, just that all the UK/SEC folk in the NKY area aren’t quite as enchanted with Stoops and his football program these days after Barker washed out and Harris spurned his home state. UK fans all over the state were banking on on those two as the foundation to glory in a weak SEC East. Now they’ve missed their window, and the UK fans know it.

They’re mostly back to being basketball-only fans when it comes to UK, and rooting for the SEC in general during football season. They are the worst.
