Does he even have coaches that know how to properly coach the game? This is German American football we are talking about here. Defensive moves are teachable which is why he is considered a project.

He trains with an American named Brandon Collier. Collier brings the best prospects over here on college tours helping them get scholarships.

Here's his website:

Will never see the field. Prefer to be "patient" with a four-five star between his freshman and sophomore year...Not for a dude to be productive in his fifth year. His film is the ONLY thing we have to go by...and its not good. Pictures of tanks are great (love tanks) but this is just a roster spot I my opinion. What is that we say when we aren't enamored with a prospect? I really hope I'm wrong.

Ade Ogundeji is the perfect example of being patient. If Notre Dame didn't recognize him, he probably would've been MAC bound. Now, after 4 years, he's basically locked in as a starter next year and could be a day 2 draft pick.

Crus has said it before, it is a good idea to take a project every year that could develop into a freak show in the future. Alex is that project in this class. And he has the best position coach on this staff so I'm relatively confident Elston and Alex will figure it out.

Plus, we are almost never at the 85 scholarship limit. So why not give him a shot?

Exactly. It makes no sense to come in and dog this kid on signing day. Elston has proven himself to be an A talent evaluator and developer. Plus Alex isn't being asked to come in and start right away. We are loaded at DL. Just let this kid develop and unleash him in a couple of years.

If this kid is anything like Bjorn Werner from the 2012?? Florida State Seminole team, we will be very happy.

Per ISD rumblings, kid is a "Complete freak".

I lobbied ISD to give him a 4th star but they didn't budge. His film reminds me of an awkward Aaron Lynch.

Heard it here first.

Just looked now and 247 ended up putting him as the #2,371 prospect overall.

They still remember your comment from several years ago about not being a talent evaluator.

I’ll be interested to see his official height when they release the spring roster. If he’s 6’7” or more I wonder if he grows into a different position. There are OL and TE that play at that height, but not as many DEs that I can recall.

Really?

He's got a good couple inches it seems on Elston and we know Elston is a tall dude.

I'm not really a long shot kind of guy, but I think we're due for a freak to come out of nowhere. I don't care if he's 6-7 or 6-5, I just want him to be a menace to QBs.

we might have the next jarron jones in blocking field goals and extra points...certainly will alter where the qb can go when he is coming of the edge

I guess it kind of depends on your definition of out of nowhere but Ade was #652 overall and he's looking like an NFL DE. JOK was #456. In most years those guys are as out of nowhere as we'll usually take, lol.

I can definitely see him getting into packages early.

If those guys are out of nowhere, #2371 is out of the solar system. Honestly I don't really see Ade or JOK as huge underdogs. I liked both when they signed and thought they had potential. They were both 3 star guys IIRC. Book wasn't too far off from Ade, and there's a few guys that are also starting behind JOK. I do agree with you that Ade might be legit in his future endeavors and end up being an over achieving freak.

And I guess that's kind of my point, if you say, we're kind of due for one of those guys and the bar is 2,371 you'll usually be waiting a very very long time as we don't take guys ranked that low very often, if ever. I can't recall the last non ST's guy we took anywhere close to that low.

That is a lower ranking than Heggie (2,320 national composite).

EDIT: I'm seeing Ehrensberger as #1376 in the "national" ranking.

Yea, I was just going off of his 247 rating because I don’t believe Rivals or ESPN even rank guys that low. Which is part of the comedy of it all. Apparently 247 has evaluated that many guys.

Love the enthusiasm here. Doubling down that he never sees the field. Watched as much film in my day as most. Trust the coaches...but not on this one. Never saw this guy you call Heggie play but Alexander is the same. You can blast me in his fifth year when he gets in on senior day. Wouldn't hit water if he jumped out of a boat. Er...hope I'm wrong..

This dude screams rural Minnesota kid that ends up at North Dakota State and ends up in the NFL because he hasn't ever played against good competition or had real coaching until college.

There are a ton of athletes in the world. Give him a shot at least.

He’s an old freshman, I think that does/will matter here. Make that 20-24/25 seems advantageous here versus 18-22/23.
