I'm happy for Ja'Mion. And glad the staff got who they want. Although the superlatives being tossed out around twitter are funny to me. "Huge pick up"... He's lowly rated, has a non-impressive offer list, and there's a picture of him that makes him appear 5'4".

Does he have any camps upcoming where we'll get an idea of his talent?

NVM - I see he's going to the Opening finals. I'm interested in how that will go. Hopefully he impresses.

He impressed at his Regionals and received an at-large invitation. I'm interested in how he measures.

Here come's Kuehnja with his expert opinion...

Have you seen any of his film?

No because it's blocked at work and I don't really do anything ND/recruiting/IE related in my free time anymore.

Analysts/Coaches have seen his film and not rated him highly/offered him, so I don't think I'd get much from his film anyway.

The Opening is June 28th for those of you who were also curious.

His film is impressive, Koon. Do yourself a favor and watch it. First step is crazy fast and he plays mean and with a motor we need at ND after guys like Jarron mailed it in sometimes. He's very disruptive and very quick for a guy his size, which is what Elko likes in his DTs more so than just DTs that take up space and don't get moved off the line.

The main knock on him is his competition but he does well on the camp circuit so that eases my mind a bit. Will be very interested in how he does at The Opening.

The other knock on him is his arm length. I've seen his height listed as anywhere from 6'1.5"-6'3". ISD guys say more likely on the high end of that after seeing him in person.

Personally, I love the pickup. Franklin, Jayson Ademilola, and Ewell and Hinish (possibly Myron also) from last years class are exactly what the interior D-line needs.

Thanks for the break down. I'll try to watch the film. But will be looking forward to what he does at the opening.

That last line is where I'm at. I love the motor and compliments the other DLinemen we got coming in. But I get why guys like koon would look at it with a meh too.

Overall though, seems like a fine young man that is a value add to the class. Welcome.

Damn, Franklin could be the 3rd or 4th best D lineman in the class. That'd be a good group

Even if he is the "developmental" DT that needs a few years of seasoning and some good fortune to turn into an impact player, and not just be a quality depth guy, this is still a nice addition to the front 7.

Worst case scenario is that he's a project that needs plenty of time and really just provides a body. And even if that's the case, we're in a much better spot with a guy like Franklin as our "project" than we have been in years past with other "project" type of guys.

He is a defensive tackle. His blood is warm. That's enough for me. ha

This guy may fall into that category of guys who want to be at ND that we had discussed was missing after last season.

I think the height concern is being a little overstated. Thomas Booker posted a picture of Ja'Mion, Thomas, and Shane Lee. I know pictures can be misleading but I think it's fair to say that Shane Lee isn't a midget, and Franklin falls right in between them. Probably makes him 6'1-6'2. Plenty of quality DT's are productive in college at that height.

Also, more than anything, I think he's going to be a good fit for what Elko asks him to do. Which is be disruptive. I don't think he'll make a lot of individual plays, but I think he'll make it easier for those around him to. Which is a perfect compliment to Jayson A, who looks like he's going to be the prototype 3T.

I had talked about this in previous discussions with Vancouver and probably Sherm, but Booker is listed at 6'4", and Franklin isn't that far south of him. I only bring this up because Booker has been stated as being a legit 6'4". I'd guess Franklin is damn near 6'2" standing g next to Booker.

Big run stopper. I would say this was a pretty drastic need going further. Go irish!

Great pickup and a guy who can fire off the ball

He might be 6'2 but he looks all of 5'10 with the shortest lower body I've ever seen for a big guy. Hopefully this isn't a Tyler Stockton thing

Whatever I don't care let's just get after it and be a player.
