ISD beats the national services to the punch. Jam Franklin was a 4 star the first time anybody saw his film.

When I made a point that Ewell was the biggest DT pickup we made in a while and I couldn't believe he was going to be followed up by Jayson Ademilola, Matt Freeman chimed in that after watching Ja'mion perform at the Opening, not only is Jay better than Ewell was at this point in high school, but Ja'mion might be as well.

All that swimming in the offseason made Ewell soft?

At what? Strongly disagree.

I didn't ask for the specifics on why he thought he was maybe better. I'm just telling you what he told me.

Edit: Found it. I think Matt is off his rocker on that one. Ewell is not only more physically impressive, has offers from everywhere, but he stonewalls people in his film.

Is that on the board? If so, which? I cannot find it. I'll call Matt out on that.

I'm just gonna go on a limb here and assume Matt, who has seen him in person and evaluates for a living, knows at least slightly more than you about recruits.

Using this logic, should we never argue against a recruits star rankings?

Regrading Ewell vs. Franklin, we'll see at ND.

Playing DT?

Who cares. Throw Ewell, Hinish, Jay Ade, Franklin with maybe MDT and/or Taylor if healthy and by '19 they should be pretty good in the interior. '20 is when you can expect top tier play when whoever they land in '19 (could be better than '18 with 3-4 recruits instead of 2 or 3?) are ready to contribute as 2nd year players... if they can get snaps from the guys ahead of them.

That doesn't make sense. No one person makes the recruiting rankings. I'm just saying that if you are going to "call out" someone for their opinion, you may want to make sure you know what the hell you're talking about. In this scenario, Matt has seen him in person multiple times. Have you even watched his film?

So a panel of experts that give a recruit a .95 rating, we see a 3-star we like better, would you say the exact same thing to? Were we wrong to think Studstill was a better Safety prospect than the 4-stars ahead of him?

Yes - I've seen both. I disagree with Matt. Ewell was a noticeably better prospect than Franklin is at the respective point and time.

Matt also noted that they likely play different techniques, that could largely factor into what he was saying.

I only brought up this point as reason to be even more excited for Ja'Mion. He made it to the Opening and showed great intensity and first step ability. There are reasons to like him.

You're clearly not getting my point. You aren't arguing with one specific person in your example. But I don't care. Go call out Matt if you want. Please screenshot and report back him obliterating you with knowledge. It will be fun for all.

Yeah, it doesn't matter, and it's reason to be excited. I'm just surprised anyone would have that opinion on the comparison.

That's fair, and it's good news to hear. Ewell by all accounts is a monster in the middle, and had offers from all of the big boys (OSU, Alabama, Michigan). His film, he couldn't be moved.

Why are you taking this to heart? I will text him and tell him he's high.

Most important takeaway, in regards to Ja'Mion, is that it appears the staff was right to prioritize him, even over prospects like PJ, who seemed to really struggle at the Opening. In fact, the ISD guys echoed some of my concerns with his film, and said The Opening performance validated those concerns. All in all, good news as it seems like we got a real gem here and a tough/hard nosed kid that will be willing to work his butt off.

Well now I have to go watch Ewell's film again and get even more excited for him than I already was.

I'm caught up by his lower rankings, below average offers, and his film compared to Ewell's. Him getting a 4-star won't change my opinion on him vs. Ewell.

Very happy to have both, and I want Franklin. I just think Ewell is noticeably better.
You know some think Ewell's best position is OG...Old school gangsta

Regardless of what the star rankings are, what offers which prospect got, with Ewell and Hinish this year and Ademilola and Franklin for next year....ND has finally added some beef on their defensive front.

I am looking more forward to Ewell of Ademilola, but I am not going to sleep on Hinish and Franklin.

Don't feel bad, as I see this a lot but how does everyone forget about MTA.

When Eric Hansen writes about recruiting or incoming freshman he raves not only about Ewell, but also MTA. I think they both get PT this year.
