Elston on signing day suggested he'd be an end.

And he did so in HS as well. So, he might start out there, but I'd be pretty shocked if he isn't playing 3T by his sophomore year. IMO, his long term position is DT.

If anyone is in a position to donate I'm sure it would help. Simple process, all you need is a credit/debit card.

The following message is from the link below:

The Franklin Family is beginning a journey to help their Dad, James fight leukemia. James has just been diagnosed with leukemia and is currently in Johns Hopkins starting his battle. We are a strong and loving community here at THE RIDGE and I know I can count on many friends to help keep a sense of normalcy on the home front for Latoya, Jamion and Jamiya. Please consider to send a meal or donation. Any questions please contact the Webb Family. Thanks in advance.

I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything because it's certainly an awesome cause, but how is this not an NCAA violation?

Well sh*t... good point. Never even thought of that. Makes sense though, unfortunately. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I would assume because this is an extenuating circumstance and is not specific to athletics or making a profit? Plus the donations are not required to be from boosters from the schools recruiting him, but from average folks, so to speak.

That would be my guess.

You'd think so, but the NCAA has come down on much more minor offenses. If a kid can't even run a monetized YouTube channel, I'm sure they could find SOMETHING about this that's a violation.

Honestly, I wouldn't hate if they did. We all know this is legit, but how long until Bama and FSU kids start setting up gofundmes for their little brother's broken arm and wracking up thousands in donations from fans? You gotta draw the line somewhere.

See I think, while the whole YouTube thing is crap from the NCAA, that is much more egregious than donations to the family while someone is sick.

You're right that this could open a can of worms, but before the internet don't you think a kid being recruited had a similar predicament. And don't you think the community gave donations to the family, ran fundraisers, and even rival schools may have done something?

Obviously the internet could produce offenses to the NCAA rules based on who is potentially donating, but, while I rarely give the NCAA much credit, you'd like to think they wouldn't overreact to a family getting help in a time of need.

Yep. If you look at this case alone, someone like Colin Cowterd could take this and make the NCAA look bad for preventing funds going to this. But this is the slipperiest of slopes.

If you allow this, it would never end, and it'd be impossible to manage and maintain integrity. All of a sudden you'd have an OSU kid who's parents have 'mental illness' and they're getting $200K to help fund treatment.

The right move is to not allow any funding for this through fans.

How do you know who a fan is? We have people on this board who do not use/reveal their name. How does the NCAA know if they are donating to a cause? Impossible to limit based on "fandom."

If you look at the way that donation page is set up, it looks like most of the meal donations (if not all) are being done by friends, family, and community members to help others. Obviously monetary donations can be different, but still.

This guy won his conference's defensive MVP, per ISD.

I have no idea what to expect with this kid. His highlights look good, but then I see his legs and think he looks like a black Tyrion Lannister out there.

At the very least, he's gotta be better than the previous depth players taken, right? I mean, MDT, Tiassum et al. didn't make it to The Opening. That plus better strength training should hopefully lead Jam to be helpful during his career.

If Sheldon Day's size didn't bother you then neither will Franklin's.

Sheldon Day was more skilled and didn't have as short of legs as it appears Franklin has. I'm telling you his lower half looks like Tyrion's.

Sounds like a good NT. You dont want nor should expect a NT to be running down QBs and RBs

Wouldn't shorter legs be an advantage in the trenches?

"Low Man Wins" in the trenches. Short legs are no deficit if the rest is there (quickness/power). Warren Sapp comes to mind. The second leading TFL guy in the NFL is 6'1". Even Howie Long said that part of why he was good is that he was built like a Bridge Troll, 6'4" but short legs. Nikita Whitlock was a "midget" for a DT, but terrorized the ACC, and is now in the pros. Some people have said that their shortness of legs also makes the tall OLinemen to bend down more to get at them, which then unbalances them a bit and makes them less quick.

I'd like to see Franklin in action, rather than in shorts, to decide how good he might be.

If anything, based on the below he appears to have the opposite problem..

Seriously though, looking at him next to Jayson Ade, doesn't appear that his legs are notably out of proportion. Do we have risks with Jayson A too?

Watching his highlights, to me it looks like his legs are just so thick that they appear short.

Actually that pic makes his arms and legs looks disproportionately short

Can't evaluate film; can't evaluate still photos.

Much ado about nothing.

You use this like such a punch line. It applies to everyone on the board. I'm just the only one humble enough to say it.

Actually, Day’s body proves the opposite. He was shorter but his legs were long and he has a high butt (seriously) and a sneaky athletic bottom half. He has a compact trunk with long arms, really a perfectly built shorter DT.

Franklin’s body is a real concern for as much as a concern as these things can be. He has ridiculously low hips and short legs. And his arms aren’t too long either. It’s a legit negative but something that can be overcome.
