The best takeaway from this, is that he's coachable and he's a tactician. You don't brute strength your way to a state title (or at least very rarely). Hopefully he takes to the DL teaching and gives a Sheldon Day-like presence.

Dad is able to watch his son win a State Title. That family has went through a lot.

Shouldn't be a huge loss for this season but it is for his development. On a side note, folks were concerned about his size during the recruiting process. He certainly didn't look out of place on Saturday. I thought he held up quite well against some double teams, prior to going down.

Prayers for a speedy and successful recovery, Ja'Mion.

Love this kid. I wonder if Elston add another NT in this cycle, in case he is not back to 1005 next year? I think we could definitely flip some dudes. Biggs and Rodas maybe? I am starting to get a little worried about the Interior DL depth.

Re attaching the tendon to the quad. Sounds pretty wild. How serious is that injury and is it common? A 100% recovery in only 5 months as well? I thought i''d be more serious, but I am unfamiliar with that kind of injury. Anyone know much about the injury or process?

Maybe Howard Cross III moves to DT in the future but as it stands today ND would be going in with 7 scholarship DT’s next season if nobody leaves. I’ve always thought they should’ve taken 3 interior guys but hopefully that group is enough. Mazi Smith, Rodas Johnson, and Jowon Briggs all had varying degrees of interest in ND. It would be nice if they could circle back around with some of those guys if necessary.

Talked with a friend of mine who is a physical therapy researcher, and she said it isn't something that necessarily carries permanent consequences, but it is really hard to retrain the body and mind to generate power like pre-injury. Obviously for a DT, that could be a concern. She also said this is one where you really only get 1 chance at full rehab so he better take it seriously. No amount of stretching/exercise can correct it if you don't get the recovery right.

When I asked her about the timeline, she gave the typical "every body is different" answer I expected, but she didn't dismiss 5 months out of hand.

Interesting. Thank you for looking into it and letting us know. I hope he can come back 100% - He seems like the guy who attacks everything. I wish nothing but the best for this kid.

For larger humans like a DT, competing at his top level is gonna be tough next year

I thought Spears was an SDE or 3 technique. Am I mistaken?

He looks like a big lad in that interception highlight that was put up in his thread.

Ewell not working out at DT leaves a big hole.

ND should reopen discussions with that kid who committed to Virginia.

Honestly I think they should get another DL and then Cross goes to 3 tech and Spears could be a 3 tech nose hybrid if needed. Another pure nose I think would be optimal though, given the fact that Ewell is now on the OL, MDT is untested and Franklin is coming back form major injury. Unless Elston thinks he can move around the DT's, ie Spears can play both nose and 3tech.

I doubt there is more than 100 pounds in that sandbag, but it looks like he is recovering from his injury just fine. Sandbag workouts are normally very leg oriented. Pete on the recent II podcast was concerned about Franklin's playing career because of his injury.

Very happy to see he is doing well. Hopefully he is full go for the start of the season, at least if he can get meaningful reps that would be outstanding. That injury was bad.

Saw this too. That would be awesome if he was 100%. Wonder what his limitations are now.

He's somewhere around 8-9 months post surgery. Let's hope he's near full clearance for summer workouts. We could use another big man pushing for reps on the inside.

And I love everything about Ja'Mion, I hope he makes his name known during his time in the golden helmet.

Yeah, the way Matt worded his post was really weird.

Apparently Kelly said he was fully cleared a while back, but that isn't true, but is ahead of schedule and should be fully cleared for fall camp.

Which I mean, is kind of irrelevant. He can weight train and condition now, which is all he needs. Being able to engage in contact isn't relevant for summer.

Surely the players go practice skills and technique on their own. The D-line and O-line should be organising their own little get togethers 5 times a week.

Yeah, but unless they're sneaking in at midnight, cutting the locks on the equipment room and grabbing pads, I don't think that's going to limit Franklin either. IIRC, he was engaging in drills at the end of spring, just no live contact.
