What is amazing is San Diego State has had 4 players selected, ND only 2. If this isn't an indictment on Brian Kelly, I don't know what is.

Surprised he’s entering possibly UDFA territory given his combine but just that many WRs that had as good a combine and/or better production

That season long suspension in 2019 maybe also playing a role.

Sounds like another year would have served him well. I do think he graduated though so that is a good thing for him. Hope he does well because his thought of going in round 5 or better have sailed. Don’t see anyone else getting drafted either. I will say at least he okayed in the Bowl game.

Don’t blame kids for not taking a 5th but KA certainly needed it. I’ve never seen such a stacked WR class either though. BoL, kid.

I know we don't like Brian Kelly around here anymore, but worth noting it is not actually Brian Kelly's job - or Marcus Freeman's - to develop players for the NFL. The fact this year's senior class won as many games as it did with so few NFL draft picks is actually a testament to Kelly's coaching.

But yes Austin should have stayed another year and become the WR everyone hoped he could be. At least he got his degree, I will say that for him.

Why not let undrafted guys go back to college? They can have agents now. Let them go back to improve draft position if they want.
I made this exact statement to my buddy within the last five minutes, ha. I had KA in mind, but meant it as a general statement. He said that they did start allowing it within the last few years? Idk

I saw this coming from a mile away.

Way too small of a sample size, character concerns, and an injury history.
Don't forget the inconsistency and hands. I'm with you though, you need more than speed at the next level. I thank him for the contributions, but it was best he move on so this offense can grow. If KA stayed and took a starting spot he may or may not have increased his stock, but I'm betting he doesn't improve if he comes back. Coaching changes can do wonders, but if you've still got red flags by your senior season that's a telling sign you either have hit a ceiling or you're not coach-able. I'm hoping Lenzy finds a way to step up his game since he came back, but at the very least the younger WRs are going to see the field more with KA moved on. Hopefully we can use it to build for a big 2023 season on the backs of last year's phenomenal frosh class.

Disagree about all of this. I think it would've been best for both parties if he came back. ND would've had a very potent WR group and KA would've put 2 full years of tape and built on what he did last year. Sadly, we'll never know.

I agree with most of this, I just wonder if Stuckey could have helped him improve had he stayed since Del never really did anything.

I think he should’ve stayed and really put in work to improve his technique with a real WR coach. But I understand why he didn’t. There is unfortunately risk to both sides. Unlike Kyren Williams, who seemingly had reached his ceiling, I just don’t think he was even close to scratching his potential.

He had 4 years to get it and his inconsistency held the offense back at times this season. This was supposed to be his year to make to it, but I doubt anyone would say he left a big mark exactly. Like I said, a change in coaching can do wonders sometimes, but I just don't think we saw enough improvement to make me think he was going to explode for 1000+ yards in year 5. Mayer was in his second year and had nearly twice as many receptions as KA and nearly eclipsed him in yards as a TE. Mayer is a freak, but he's also consistent which is why he was the go to guy. In the big games KA often just disappeared sadly. He was almost completely shut out against Cinci including a costly easy drop, and was nearly shut out of the Fiesta 2nd half. I mean, Styles led in receiving yards almost as often as KA and he played 2nd string most of the season and was a frosh. I'm looking forward to seeing what the young WR group can grow into now.

Won the lottery. Trevor Lawrence throwing to him and Doug Peterson if he likes Austin can taxi squad him for two years. Peterson has time and can give Austin time.
