Is no one else stunned by this news? I thought he'd 'compete' but not actually competing for a starting spot. If Wright can also earn PT, this might be a TE haul for the ages.

Excited to see how Chip Long plans to mix n match personnel. He has a stable of TEs & RBs and our OL should be, at minimum, serviceable.

Isn't Cole a duel athlete (baseball, and a lefty I think). I would love to see him throw a few passes if I'm correct

I want to point out that ISD did not say this. That's just Arrow's opinion.

Yes, this was just my opinion. Sorry for any confusion.

I say that I wouldn't be surprised if he is a starter because, to be quite honest with you, Smythe has not been impressive to me. That very well could be because Scott Booker was a garbage tight ends coach and the offense didn't use the tight end that much in the last few seasons. So I really hope Smyhte can benefit from having Longo calling the plays. But if he doesn't show improvements in Fall camp, I wouldn't be mad if they replaced him with Kmet.

I originally posted this in the mod forum, but I think it's worth sharing here now that we're discussing Kmet's potential impact.

I was at my wife's family reunion last month and it turns out one of her cousins from Chicago played with Kmet. Said he was really interested in Stanford, but they didn't offer. Cousin is not a Notre Dame guy, and basically implied if Stanford had that's where he would've gone (but who really knows?)

It's sort of crazy to think about but he ended up being one of our highest rated commits in the last class and might've even been underrated... and he basically fell into our lap from our backyard. It's insane how few posts are in this thread despite his location/rating... he was an elite recruit, top 5 prospect at his position. Can you imagine how much we'd be discussing the #3 DE recruit in the country? The TE position certainly looks stocked moving forward even if Alize Jones leaves after this year.

Didn't he end up higher ranked than Wright?

no.
247 had them ranked 2 and 3. Close enough....

247 had them ranked:

Kmet = #3
Wright = #6

Their Comp rating was:

Wright = #2
Kmet = #3

Wright would have been #1 if 247 didn't lowball him.

How hard does he throw?

not hard but has a very nice breaking ball....according to his baseball profile he throws hard but at least in games he hasn't been throwing hard

Gotcha, if he threw mid-90s I would suspect him getting drafted soon...

He's pitching well from what I've seen but I couldn't find anything that said how fast he threw.

Definitely does not throw in the 90s, I saw him pitch in the sectional last year he faced my Brother who played for Benet. He has really good stuff but will not overwhelm with velocity.

I thought college ball rules were that once you go to college, you have to stay for 3 years? So he'd be here at least another 2, right?

I know it's that way for football, no idea about baseball though.

He would have to wait until after his JR year to be drafted again for baseball

Yea, I said college ball, should've been more specific and said baseball. You either declare before college or after Junior Year. So we have Kmet for 2 more seasons regardless of how well his baseball career goes.

Rule is junior year or 21st birthday, whichever happens first. We had a kid from my college team get drafted sophomore year because he was already 21.
