His combine scores will be underwhelming due to low 40 times, etc but he’s a helluva college CB & should be drafted & have a solid NFL career

Most likely he will be one of those guys whose play on the field/tape out weighs his measurable. But I’m not going to assume he will have poor combine numbers. If he can run a 4.5 he flat or so he is in good shape.

He’ll be greatly underestimated, what else is new? He’ll test well enough, his instincts and ball skills completely offset his lack of 4.3 speed.

Please don't go to the draft next year.

If ND had a roster full of guys with Love's attitude, we wouldn't worry about Michigan

So relieved you were just adding player rankings. When I logged on and saw Tillery, Coney, and Love threads all updated, I just automatically assumed that they robbed a bank and were expelled. Phew.

On a more related note, 3 top 100 players should make for one helluva defense, can't wait to see this unit led by Lea.

Too bad Michigan has 5 on defense.

Michigan having 5 is all good and well. Can't I still be excited about us having 3? Not to mention Drue can't be far off that list.

I'm going to hang my hat on the way South Carolina moved the ball on them in the 4th quarter in January during that comeback. We'll take care of them in September at home.

Oh definitely, be excited about NDs players and what we bring to the table. I'm just hoping those rankings are lofty expectations for Michigan.

It will seriously be a great test out of the gate. We'll know what kind of offense we have and what kind of team we have, after that game.

watching their amazon prime series i think it was clear the failures of the SCUM offense demoralized their defense and wore them down as the season went on.

Didn't ND abuse Greedy Williams in the bowl game last year?

I think it was a wash. He got himself an INT and nearly grabbed a second, but I also think he was involved in the Boykin catch.

It's easy to get excited about what this defense could potentially be this fall. Hopefully it reaches that potential.

I think the first big catch Boykin made over Greedy, but “The Catch” was Boykin vs. Donte Jackson, with their safety (Battle?) over the top

Julian Love, CB
Regardless of size, cornerbacks with plus awareness, impressive ball skills, and dynamic click-and-close skills are typically big-time play-makers in college and it translates to the NFL level. Recent examples include Bills corner Tre'Davious White, Saints corner Marshon Lattimore, and new Rams corner Marcus Peters.

And, with the way the rules in pro football today have made in significantly more difficult to play man-to-man defense, read-and-react, takeaway-the-football cornerbacks are rightfully trendy.

Love is right around 6-0 and 193 pounds and made his presence felt in the play-making department as a sophomore in 2017 with three interceptions -- two returned for touchdowns -- an a ridiculous 20 pass breakups. He processes route combinations rapidly and has an uncanny ability to get his hands on the football once he arrives in perfect position.

This may come as a shocker, but the last time the Fighting Irish had a first-round cornerback was Jeff Burris in 1994. Love has the mature skills and physical capabilities to hear his name called within the first 32 picks of the 2019 Draft.

Two websites (The Big Lead and Drafttek) have Love going in the first round in next year's draft. The Big Lead had him going to Pittsburgh at 17; Drafttek must really like him because they have him going #6 to the Giants.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave after this season, but I think the first round is a little high right now. I'd probably give him a 2nd round grade. We all know how mechanically sound he is and how he's always in the receiver's grill (allowing for pass breakups), but I think he'll need to show well in the 40 yard dash to be a first round pick (4.55 or lower).

I know these websites don't hold as much weight as ESPN, CBS, PFF, etc., but its nice to see him getting recognition.

We have some big games coming up where he can really give himself a shot at that 1st round. I will be curious to see where he ends up when all is said and done.

Darqueze Dennard was drafted in the teens with a similar profile (IMO). It's not unfathomable for Love to be drafted in the first with a 4.6 40, but it would be by a team with a lockdown corner on the field side already.

Edit: Dennard ran a 4.51 at the Combine. That's faster than I expected.

I've been a big big fan of Love since his senior film came out, but I just don't see 1st round. 1st round corners are typically uber athletes with some size, and Love will be lacking in both aspects. He'll get the same knocks as that Iowa corner from a few years back, Desmond King, but I just don't see Love falling to the 5th. Starting in the 2nd, especially if teams think he can play safety, but probably the 3rd.

Regardless, Julian needs to come back next year and be a Senior Captain. Dude will be leading the defense along with Alohi. Man I know that a lot of talent is graduating this year, but next year will be awesome, provided not too many guys leave early.

Seniors Kareem, Dae Hayes, Okwara, Love, Pride, Elliott, Bilal. Sheesh, that's just the seniors

Can Bilal come back next year? I though he was gone after this year?
