Pretty sure he is number 2 in PD's in all of college football now.

I hear that. Say Drue doesn’t come back next year. Captains on defense: Daelin Hayes, Terry Jillery, Trevor Coney and Mr. Love.

What about Crawford? Love would still be a junior. He is a lock to be a captain as a senior. I would say the same for Hayes. Let the senior Tillery be a captain next year and dangle the carrot of captainship to ensure Daelin comes back for his senior year.

Making juniors captains indirectly encourages kids to leave early.

So you are suggesting that Tillery is a good enough leader to be a captain? The same kid who got suspended for the Fiesta Bowl for a violation of team rules? The same kid who was in the news last year for liking lots of tweets about BK's time at ND should come to an end and that ND should hire Les Miles? The same kid who intentionally nudged a USC players helmet who was on the ground with a potential head injury?

Granted, I'm sure that Tillery has matured this year and he's definitely balling on the field, but I don't think he is "Captain Material". Of course I want him back next year, but just because you are one of the top players on defense, shouldn't automatically qualify you as a captain.

Silently having an all American start to the season.

Notre Dame woke up Sunday with a national statistical individual leader, and it’s sophomore cornerback Julian Love.

With his third interception of the season Saturday and a return of 25 yards, Love moved up to No. 1 in interception return yardage (153).

He is third nationally in passes defended — a combination of interceptions and pass breakups — with 17, and fourth in pass breakups with 14.

That's kinda strange, because I'm guessing lots of people remember him for the touchdown he gave up vs NC State and BC (I think it was BC). I can't wait to see what Elko does with him for Navy; dude was the best player on the field during Army and a lot of the Navy game last year

Didnt they move him to safety for Navy last year?

If all anyone remembers about CBs are the (inevitable) times that they get beat, then NO CBs should ever get on the field. I wonder how many fans are even close to realizing how difficult that position is? BRAVO, young warrior --- you are ballin'.

So, how much credit should Lyght get any for having a sophomore CB that he recruited, being named 2nd team AA? Both recruited and developed the player to this level in two years.

Also, Julian's composite ranking had him as the 46th best CB and the #480 overall. Good coaching? Good recruiting/evaluation? Or a combination of the two? Something was done well here.

Jules is just a football player with great intangibles. Lyght has done well with him, but BVG himself could've been coaching the corners and Love would've played well. Just probably not to AA level

So, I find this to be quite funny. We kill the guy for not recruiting well the last cycle and a half. However, we give him no credit for recruiting Love?

We kill the guy every time our DB's don't make a play on the ball, but he gets no credit when his sophomore CB is a AA, and had some nationally competitive CB statistics on the season. That seems a little odd to me.

I've not been on the fire Lyght train at all, I've just been high on Love since his senior year and especially last year. Watching him play Army in person made me a true believer.

And it wasn't directed at you, you were just the one that responded but I don't see Lyght getting any credit for any of the positives. Certainly needs to do better in some areas, but I think at a time like this, ND nation would be giving him at least a little bit of Love, pun intended.

Whew! for a second there I thought you were referring to BVG not Lyght. I'm fine with Lyght. HE has had some mixed results but players deserve some credit for that just like the fact that Love is a baller.

He has to get credit for Love's development whether it was his doing or if he just inherited a local player who's the type of CB MSU and Iowa produce.

Something to acknowledge is he's a BOOM player like Isaiah Robertson and Houston Griffith (and Micah Jones). ND's into that program deep. They probably could have had Greg Newsome in this class too... hell wouldn't surprise me if he signed on NSD.

I don't think the corners are the problem. Nick Watkins was kind of lazy at times, and Crawford started hot and faded, but they weren't the problem IMO.

It's the safeties that completely underwhelmed me all year. Like, when did you see Studstill/Elliot make a play?

That would be never but I did see Coleman make a tackle or two

Coach simply gave Julian a tape of his ND career during the glory years when ND use to play Lyght's Out Defense!

May we smother more offenses with Love next year.
