Idk about a grade but I'm glad to see the freshmen play well and learn from their mistakes. All of this playing time and experience now will only be beneficial for 2017 and beyond. I'm especially excited for Vaughn; it looks like he could be a starter next year opposite to Crawford.

I'm thinking next year it'll likely be Vaughn and Watkins at corners with Crawford at Nickel with Love being the #1 rotation guy. But who knows. All three freshman corners actually have more experience then Watkins playing-time wise. It'll be an all out dogfight in training camp. Gonna be great!

I haven't seen the game from yesterday yet and I understand Vaughn had a great performance, but from what I've seen so far this year I'd say Love is easily our best freshman corner. Great instincts, good tackler. Makes honest mistakes but not a lot of catastrophic ones.

I think Love is the best all around Corner of the three freshman. Coverage I would go with Vaughn though.

Have to be careful with Crawford, Achilles injuries are very difficult to come back from. Look at Victor Cruz. I would not be surprised if Crawford takes a medical next year.

Starters IMO Watkins and Love. In nickel Love moves inside and Vaughn/Pride replace him outside.

Dude I swear you are Julian Loves dad or something. What grade would you give him? You are acting like I gave the kid an F. He was solid yesterday, didn't make any game changing plays. Richards and Coley had some catches on him and he didn't have a pick. He did his job and got a C+. Please stop acting like I am disrespecting the kid because I'm not you don't need to give him the son treatment.

I agree with GB, C+ sounds about right.

Had some really nice, tight coverage against some deep passes, but was also a few steps late on a few plays that I saw.

A just-slightly-above-average performance, aka a C+.

And that's pretty good for a freshman against Miami's offense.

Thank you, this is multiple times since yesterday where Dswade is acting like he is the best freshman corner in the country and I have been disrespectful to him

I would have given him a B. But let me review the game before I start giving out grades like I'm a coach on the team.

Kelly said Love essentially played as well as Vaughn did in the game after watching the film. Those two are your starting corners next season.

No Watkins or Crawford?

Crawford moves back to nickel back which he's very good at. I just haven't seen enough of Watkins but it's hard to see him ahead of the other two given all the experience they are getting this year.

Anyone else thinks his best position is at safety?

Watkins, Crawford, Vaughn, Pride, Adebo at corner.

Love, Studtill and Eliot at safety.

No, and one game vs an option team can't prove

Why move him from a position he can be good at?

IMO, which means nothing, I think his skill set fits safety better. Plus we have depth at corner, but not at safety.

Tranquil will be back next year I believe. My guess is our starting unit will be Love and Vaughn at corners with Watkins(3rd) and Pride (4th), Crawford at Nickel with Love and Watkins possibly rotating in there and Tranquil at SS (Elliot will see time if Tranquil falters/ garbage time/ giving Tranquil a breather) and Studstill at FS full time. I really think Adebo may be a FS at ND.

All this is just my opinion but however it shakes out, we should be darned good, fast and athletic at DB next year. I think Love is really going to anchor our defensive backfield for the next 2-3 years to come.

I listened to a podcast interview with Love before the season and he said that regarding his ranking, he was a 3 star when he committed to ND. After his commitment he got offered by Georgia, Michigan and OSU and they were calling him relentlessly. Because of this, if he hadn't committed so early his ranking would've gone way up but it didn't and he didn't care because he said ND was his dream school and he was awe struck when coaches showed up at his school and offered him. He committed on the spot

I watched the Army game with a secondary coach that says the same thing... especially after I said that ND might have more pure cover CB's on the way.

You are on to something. He really liked the way Love tackled more so than how he played the ball in the air. Said his size is a drawback but that he has the skill set.

ND wants bigger safeties. Love is 5-10, 175. He's a tough physical corner. He won't be moved.

Kelly said in the presser that they used him against option teams at safety because he fit what they wanted to do but had no plans to keep him there permanently.

ND has him at 5-10.5 - 190.

Everyone wants bigger safeties. But they also want the right skill set. Not sayin he will get moved but a 1 hr fly by from a guy who makes 6 figures agreed with Sherm's feelings, i won't discount them.

I'd rather have a 6-3 FS like Robertson or Pouncey mated with a 6-2/3 SS like Pete Werner but if a smaller guy's performance beats out ideal size, so be it.

Yeah I'm not saying that he is going to move to safety or the staff should move him. I just think his skill set is better suited for safety than corner, even with his lack of size.

I agree with your friend. He tackles well, is tough, has a nose for the ball and good in coverage. He is not a pure cover corner like Pride, Vaughn, Watkins, etc.

If it were up to me I would have Love play corner next year, meaning Drue and Studstill start at safety. But in 2018 the starting safeties would be Studstill and Love, with Eliot rotating in as the 3rd safety and Moore or Perry, which ever one is not a LB as the 4th. The top 4 Corners would be Watkins, Vaughn, Pride and Crawford.

I like Pouncey at WR. I think he could be the next Fuller, Stepherson a 3 star who becomes a star WR.

I lover Werner, but I have this crazy idea of Werner playing Will LB. I see him attacking the edge and getting a ton of TFL and sacks.

Kid is just a player. Bright spot in a dismal season.

I would really like to see him move to safety in 2017 and replace Studstill or Tranquil who have both been ineffective.

There is depth at corner and Love can tackle and cover.

Corners:
1. Watkins
2. Pride
3. Vaughn
4. Crawford (if healthy)
5. Butler ?
6 Adebo ?

Anyone but Studstill. Watching him take bad angles as speedsters leave him looking slow and tired is getting old. Max was always able to chase a guy down. This guy has no upside. Time to look at Love at safety. Tranquills tackling and hitting got much better after BVG got sent packing. Looking forward to some position changes in spring. No more taking up space with nice guy Rochelle, lazy man J Jones and the big softie Cage. Cage needs to continue working on himself to be the middle of the Dline he can be.

If Butler for some reason comes back, he needs to move to safety.

I'd put Love at FS and throw Studstill in the weight room and not let him out till he's pushing 220. He's a SS or he doesn't play for me. Although, might have to keep Love at CB if no one steps up.

I agree with this. I think Love would be a great FS all though he's a great corner/nickel. Tough to call but I'm glad we have him. We need to get bigger and stronger at DB. Sick if seeing us get the crap blocked out of us in the back end. If you watch any SEC team, all their safeties are well over 200 lbs.... Daunte Vaughn is our "big" corner and still, he looks small out there and gets pushed around. We need to find a way to get them bigger without sacrificing too much speed. Some say Studstill is a stud but I wasn't impressed

I was at his girlfriend's house last night for about ten minutes. Decided to bring up Julian and Whole family just raved about how awesome Julian is as a person. Really looking forward to his next three years at ND. Him and Crawford going to be an interesting nickel back battle next year. Both need to be on the field a ton

Coming back from Achilles injuries doesn't always go smoothly. Ask Victor Cruz.

And why were you at his girlfriends house? And how do you know them?
