Meanwhile very few college baseball players even get a full scholarship. Sour Grapes I guess

For nobody's yes. But if I'm a Johnny Manziel or Denard Robinson no way am I letting the college use my image. There should be an opt out where kids should be able to profit on their own image.

I hope they give every student who appears on university literature five thousand for use of their image too. Unless they were planning on making the athletes pay for the innumerable perks they receive currently for free as part of some of the best scholarships in college sports.
How could they not? Extra Benefit!
How can they play the athletes and not the cheerleaders or band?
Shouldn't the star player whose image is used extensively get compensated more than the athlete whose only image is in the media guide?

How about this: they get to use their own image as they see fit, but the university never releases a roster or uses their name in broadcasts. Numbers change periodically. I wonder how valuable the players' 'personal brands' would be if taken separately from the university?
