Notre Dame junior CB Shaun Crawford has played in basically five and a half games during his collegiate career. He missed his entire freshman season (2015) with a torn ACL and then suffered a torn achilles in the first quarter of the second game of his sophomore season (2016). In that limited time he has:

Returned a blocked PAT for a two-point conversion to tie Texas, 37-37, with just over three minutes remaining
Three interceptions
Two fumble recoveries
A forced fumble at the goal line to negate a certain touchdown
Five passes defended

I think I just posted that.

And that is why Diaco is

1) a failed HC
2) failing the crap out of being a DC in Nebraska

I am convinced the 2012 success had nothing to do with Bob and all about having a defense that had several pro players on it

I have to agree. Diaco struggled mightily with Navy...not that Navy hasn't become a respectable team, but with the talent we have we should have done better in games. Better than Group of 5 opponents that also played Navy anyway. Diaco really failed to bring good DL players in his final years at ND too, and I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall at that point. There was a distinct lack of talent at NG that we whiffed on during that period, and NG is the most important position in the 3-4.

I think Diaco is a pretty good DC, at least as far as calling defenses. His halftime adjustments were fantastic at ND.

Yes, he was uninterested and even lazy when it came to recruiting though.

Not sure that '12 defense was really that loaded with pro players. 2 2nd round picks and a few midround selections, some of whom are already out of the league. Tuitt is by far the best pro player, and while he's doing well, it's not like he's killed it in the NFL. So in other words, ND had about as much pro talent as every midlevel P5 team out there. I think Diaco deserves a lot of credit for that team.

A lot of people around the NFL consider Tuitt one of the best DL in the league and feel pro bowls are in his future starting this year. First game of year before hurting his biceps he was dominant.

ND Football Snapchat has a video of him with the caption “Golden Mongoose”. No doubt a reference to Tyran “Honey Badger” Mathieu, I hope that’s actually a nickname and not just a one off joke by a social media intern, cause that’s hilarious.

(I hope his bump scared some)

When I think of tyrann mathieu, all I really think about is a shitload of failed drug tests. I'd prefer not to think of Crawford in those terms.

I think of one of the greatest college defensive playmakers of the last 10 years.

But maybe I’m a romantic.

Me too. I loved watching him play. I watched as many LSU games as ND games his junior year solely because he was my favorite player to watch in all of football.

I also compared Crawford to him in another thread because I see similarities in their attitude and ability. That goal line strip against MSU was absolutely honey badger-esque.

When he punched that ball out I jumped up and yelled Peanut Tillman!

Best game-changing defensive play I can remember. It's not like we were going to lose but in a single defensive act, he punched the ball out and prevented 7 pts, then recovered and gave us another possession. 14 pt swing by one player not giving up.

I seriously can't remember another play by a single player like that For an entire defense, the Stanford goal line stand was great but single defensive player heroics are hard to produce.

Deke Cooper against BC in '98 still sticks out, but yeah doesn't happen often.

what a great play that was. unblocked to stop mike cloud in the backfield, thought for sure cloud would score.

I also like allen rossum in '95 at Washington, pick 6 at the end of the game to secure the win after Udub drove into field goal range to kick the game winner.

Is that related to the opossum?

The dorms I lived in my first two years of college had a bunch of possums living around them... you learn real quick not to mess with those angry bastards. Possums must be related to Honey badgers because those lil fuckers also, do not care.

My dog has a habit of hunting possums. I don't understand why they keep coming through our backyard when she's back there, but they keep putting themselves in harm's way.

One time, she chewed the shit out of one so bad that I thought he was truly dead. Went inside to grab a shovel to throw him over the hill, and by the time I went back out, he was gone. Truly played possum.

The next time, the possum barely looked like it had a scratch on it, but he was dead for real. She must have jerked him around and snapped his neck.

Anyway, we're lucky our dog doesn't have rabies or other diseases. She's a natural-born fighter and hunter when it comes to wildlife. She's fine with people and other dogs and cats. She just doesn't like wildlife on her property, I guess.

What kind of dog?? I was genuinely afraid of these dorm possums. I honestly think if my bulldog had a run in with one of the possums that lived around our student village my bulldog would get fucked up pretty badly... I know possums have a reputation for being docile and all that but yeah I say they're 'playing possum' on that mess... I've seen some shit.

She's a Husky. She's on the smaller side, but she's a spark plug.

My old catahoula would hunt possums at night in our yard. Most people spend time picking up dog poop out of their yard. I picked up possum guts at least twice a month.
And ACamp is right.. possums DGAF and they are mean little bastards.

I'm assuming she seeks them out and surprises them. We have some woods in our back yard, so maybe there's a den that she checks, and some poor bastard possum trying to live his possum life gets surprised.

She ate a pigeon one time, and its mate was hanging out in the trees next to our back deck for like two weeks. It was really kind of sad.

Ours was an inside outside dog so she could come and go as she pleased. She stayed outside a lot at night anyway patrolling and always managed to find one. I guess she heard or saw them leaving the trees. Not sure as we were normally asleep and never heard anything. Only saw the end result. She brought one inside one night. I woke up and it looked like a murder took place in my kitchen.

Kevarie Russell’s pick over the top of Juju Smith in the 4th quarter of the 2015 USC game should be on the short list.
