As a rule of thumb, speculation is problematic. Bottom line is that going back a few weeks it was basically a done deal that he was through here... some stuff happened post-Navy that I'm not going to get into specifics on, but it wasn't drugs or other misbehavior. If/when he's officially no longer part of the program, then I think it's OK to have these discussions. I don't really think they're appropriate for players that are still part of ND... because if hearsay is wrong, that can cause a lot of issues for them.

I do apologize. Please feel free to delete all posts regarding the hearsay. You make a good point about if it is incorrect. I’m used to a private board (still not an excuse) and should have thought before posting.

It's really no problem. This is a discussion board and you were asking legitimate questions and sharing legitimate rumors. I'll clean it up in a little bit if you wish.

What does "just say no" even refer to? Weed? I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.

Clausen never came remotely close to living up to his hype. If you make a list of California players, it has over an 80% fail rate.

yup...and as we are about to see again...PA guys almost always live up to the hype...:)

According to head coach Brian Kelly, Notre Dame tight end Aliz'e Mack has been suspended and will miss the Citrus Bowl matchup with LSU on Jan. 1, 2018.

On a separate matter, Aliz'e Mack has also been suspended for the game. It has nothing to do with academic eligibility. All of our players are academically eligible. It's an internal team matter.
Brian Kelly

Per Irish Illustrated's Tim O'Malley, it was confirmed that Mack has only been suspended for the matchup with the Tigers and not beyond that.

Next to Von McKinley, he's the best receiver I've ever seen in HS.

So...... don't pay any attention to my recruiting posts from here on out..

It's really hard for me to bag on any of our WRs or TEs given the QB play. The quality of throws and consistency has never been there to let any WR get in their groove. To add, the grad transfers got way too much practice time pre-season which I'm sure impacted the chemistry or lack there of between BW and guys like Mack. Just a bad situation all around.

I agree with everything but the bold. BW and Mack hooked up everyday on scout team last year which should have allowed them to build plenty of chemistry. EQ, KJ, Myles, etc needed the reps this summer instead of the grad transfers but not Mack.

........Von McKinley.....

I watched him twice in HS; once when Centennial played Serra (crazy 66-68 game), and once when Centennial torched LB Poly.....McKinley ran all over the field both games, literally. Centiennial had 2 different QB's and it didnt matter who was throwning the ball, McKinley was unstoppable. One play he torched Biggie Marshall for an 80+ yard play.

(biggie was torched for (2) 80 yard plays in that game)

Catch a damn football once in awhile?

Sorry to ruin your misconception:

Mack's tied for third most receptions on the team.

Mack's also caught a higher percentage of targets than ESB or Stepherson. Of the 4 most targeted receivers only Claypool had a higher percentage of receptions.

I'd like to see who has more dropped balls that hit their hands. Also who has more drops in crucial situations.

You and all your facts can get lost!

Mack hasn't tweeted in 11 days. Everyone should have known something was up

I still remember Mike Farrell doing a video saying

"If he decides he's gonna be a great football player that's gonna remind you of Kyle Rudolph numbers wise"

"ND needs to light a fire under him because he's one of the most gifted TE's athletically I've seen"

Drifting into the realm of Ben Koyack Potential Award?

This New Years bowl is shaping up to be the suspension/missing starters bowl between both teams.

It's interesting because I've heard this same sentiment from several people who are in the know but I've never really seen it on the field. Nothing he does really jumps out at me.

I went back and looked at his Rivals ranking and was surprised at how low it was. 4*, 133 overall, #4 TE. He was our 5th highest rated guy. For some reason, I thought he was a 5*, can't miss kid. Probably just expected too much from him. Hope the best for him.

Was attempting levity. Apologies.

But if we want to get statistical about it. Whoop-de-flipping-do.

The guy had 19 catches - just two in the last six games - with one garbage time touchdown. Averaged less than nine yards per catch. Smythe averaged 18. I couldn't find drops stats but I remember more of those from him than big plays. To the extent he produced he was more like a blocking tight end possession receiver than the vertical matchup nightmare he's supposed to be. This from the most athletic tight end at "TEU."

I certainly hope Alize gets his head on straight, comes back next year and plays up to his vaunted potential. But at this point it's hard to say he hasn't been a disappointment.
