Correct. He was billed as a "generational" QB, #1 overall type of guy... instead his best season he was a mere 25th in the country in QBR and ended up being a second round pick + bust in the league. His best year, where he was a top 25 QB, he had NFL talent at literally every pass catching position.

Doesn't do you much good if your OL is getting you killed every game, not to mention the virtually non-existent running game. Also have to remember that Jimmy played most of that season with turf-toe on his planting foot. And while he did have NFL talent in Tate, Rudolph and Floyd, Floyd missed half the season with a collarbone injury that continued to affect him when he eventually returned.

That's not even mentioning the "defense", if that's what they were calling it back then.

Jimmy busted in the league because he was injury plagued and never got the chance to develop. The instant he arrived, he was thrusted into the starting role on an absolutely horrendous Carolina team. Then a year later, they fired John Fox and drafted Cam Newton #1 overall.

I think his biggest problem was he had no pocket presence. He got better during his time at ND but was still pretty bad. Not very athletic either. Guy could throw a beautiful ball though.

He tweeted that he is coming back? His tweet was confusing

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">“I’ll be back 2018 to give you the summary”</p>— Alizé Mack (@AlizeMack97) <a href="https://twitter.com/AlizeMack97/status/939712458826092544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 10, 2017</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

?

Hard to tell what, exactly, that means. But the only reason it'd make sense for him to go pro is if he had another academic suspension. (which has been rumored, right?).

Any word on his status for the bowl...or next season? Rumors abound.

They should know by now. If he didn't make the grades, you'd think Weishar and Kmet would be getting the back up snaps behind Smythe but without Claypool, Stepherson and Wright maybe Kelly would sell out and use him one last time. (Assuming he's still eligible until classes start in Jan like it was back in my day (???)) My thinking:

In BK's press conf. yesterday he said, "Obviously we're losing Durham for sure, (pause, stumble, rethink) so we needed to replace that and add into this cycle..."

Typically, you use "for sure" when the subject you are talking about has a definite component that can be divulged vs something that is not definite or something that you don't want to talk about at the present time.

Example: I'm going to the SC game for sure and maybe to the Navy game.

Example: I'm taking you to the SC game for sure and maybe another game if you're good. (knowing you are taking them to Navy already too.

Since it's already been announced Weishar is returning, what's the unknown that would make him phrase it this way? Alize is the only variable.

BK's remark starts at 33:50 marked here: https://youtu.be/OsUK27XppHE?t=2029

losing this dude for the bowl game, or for next year doesnt hurt the team much at all. The next meaningful impact on a game he makes, will be his first meaningful impact on a game.

We won't miss him during the game, but it's still disappointing that within the span of two days we have three players suspended.

To be fair, he's about as talented as Hot Hands Haynen pre-tar.

It's really hard for me to bag on any of our WRs or TEs given the QB play. The quality of throws and consistency has never been there to let any WR get in their groove. To add, the grad transfers got way too much practice time pre-season which I'm sure impacted the chemistry or lack there of between BW and guys like Mack. Just a bad situation all around.

Rumor is that he refused to “Just Say No”

This is his first non-grade thingy, correct? If so, I don't see why we should automatically assume he gone. I mean it wouldn't shock me, but if his only issue thus far is grades, and he improved in that area, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion he wants to leave or BK wants him gone. He definitely does not have the numbers/production to go to the NFL and be a 1 or 2 rounder IMO, and I'm sure he doesn't want to sit a year or go Juco..... Am I missing other issues he's had?

if anyone has intel not fit for the board, please PM me.

Man that’s a pretty despicable thing if true... any actual substance to this? I hope not

It’s hearsay but I got wind of it a few days ago which led me to ask if anyone had heard anything on him in this thread. I assumed it would be grades but that was ruled out by BK. The original rumor mentioned drugs specifically which led me to believe they knew something since Bk just announced his suspension.

For some reason I read the comment completely wrong and thought it was insinuating something way worse than drugs. But still.... how can you be so dumb

And again...hangs head, exhales audibly...shakes head.

Whatever they are serving at training table is causing a form of dimensia where you relentlessly seek ways to step on your own dick.

SNAFU off season in South Bend.

As a rule of thumb, speculation is problematic. Bottom line is that going back a few weeks it was basically a done deal that he was through here... some stuff happened post-Navy that I'm not going to get into specifics on, but it wasn't drugs or other misbehavior. If/when he's officially no longer part of the program, then I think it's OK to have these discussions. I don't really think they're appropriate for players that are still part of ND... because if hearsay is wrong, that can cause a lot of issues for them.
