All the talent and depth worries me a bit. As we continue to stockpile, I think we'll see more and more transfers as the years go by, and success grows. Good problems to have, and happy to be worried about transfers instead of depth.

Whiskey - question... as Neal develops, do you think he'll get some carries, primarily reverses/sweeps?

I'd take that problem every day...

I would have thought Onwualu to be more of a pure WR prospect than hybrid. I know he played RB some in high school, but I see him being an ideal pure-slot receiver. Also, the little I did see of Carlisle at USC made me think he's a pure RB even if he does have good hands.

The vast majority of Onwualu's tape shows him coming out of the backfield; he's also shifty and physical, which lends itself to Z WR or hybrid RB. But he's the 2nd tallest WR prospect we have, and it's been widely reported that we recruited him as a WR. So it's probably a coin flip at this point whether he ends up on the inside or the outside. We need him more on the outside, honestly.

Whiskey - question... as Neal develops, do you think he'll get some carries, primarily reverses/sweeps?

For a Z WR of Neal's potential, sweeps are a given. The question for me is whether Neal is so good that he moves into a hybrid RB role.

I was mistaken. I swear I read about the guy he works out with saying he was exclusively playing on the outside.

Anybody else not really get the comparisons to Theo? Theo, despite his diminutive size, is a power back. He earns his check (figuratively, this isn't USC) by running over guys, not around them. Neal seems like a much better comparison to me. Both 5'9"-5'10", 170-180, both are capable of RB, WR, or CB, both excel as return men (supposedly Neal did in HS at least), both have elite top-end speed (unlike Theo), and both have the uncanny ability to juke opposing linebackers out of their jock straps.

Riddick has figured out that he has to stop side-stepping people only to get tackled by his laces 70% of the time, and now he finally puts a shoulder down and earns his yards. Still, I wouldn't say he is a "power back," only that he is no longer dances.

I do agree that he's closer to Neal though.

Side note, I remember the first game in 2009, against Nevada, when Riddick returned the opening kickoff and the announcers commented that as a true freshman he was the fast guy on the team. Oh how things have changed, Kelly has brought in the speed.

Folston is much bigger than Neal coming out of school. Folston is now 195-200 and a few inches taller. Folston is not a burner, no where near Neal. Folston is however shifty and has great hands.

Ah, gotcha. Once we sort all of the RB/ Z WRs into their various categories, the hybrid spot would be the most crowded if Folston commits:

Pure RB
GAIII
Mahone
Bryant

Z WR
Neal
Hunter, Jr.

Hybrid
Carlisle
McDaniel
Onwualu
Folston

Why wouldn't you put Bryant as a hybrid? He seems to have really good hands, right? Also Hunter said Kelly wanted Hunter to play a role like Riddick--i.e. hybrid?

Not saying he (Bryant) won't be a hybrid, but he doesn't have the outright speed and slot shiftiness a typicaly hybrid would have. He's more of a between the tackles power back. Take a look at his film and you'll see what I mean when I say power. Won't be brought down by the first guy, and will punish a D all game long. Not saying he'll never catch out of the backfield, but we have better options IMO. Hunter yes (I read the same thing), but with the way the WR crop is shaking out, he's pobably more needed as a pure Z or an outside guy. This could change, but we're pretty stacked at the hybrid IMO, especially if we pick up Folston.
