If the rankings actually matter to him, this shouldn't even be a contest. In the US News rankings, ND is 19 and UGA is 62.

Who is explaining the above to these recruits!? I sincerely hope we're not simply hammering on the GSR; as this recent tweet shows, blue chip recruits are nothing if not confident, so why would a smart kid like Keith doubt his ability to graduate?

Was this in response to someone ripping on UGA's GSR? It's pretty average (sadly) for the FBS. The real difference is in the market value of the degrees themselves.

I wonder if the ROI discrepancy between ND and big SEC schools would be as large when considering only the football graduates. I would venture to guess that Georgia football players that graduate (especially those of Marshall's academic abilities) are provided networking and job opportunities that the normal UGA student wouldn't receive.


No way of ever knowing but just some food for thought.

It's crazy to me that fans can reach out and communicate with recruits so easily these days. Personally, I wouldn't message a player on facebook or tweet at them because I would feel like I was stepping over a line. I'm not a reporter and nor do I work for BK, why am I trying to communicate with this 18 year old kid? Also, I fear at some point, one, while trying to be "persuasive" and "positive", could have a negative effect on the recruitment process.

It's not the worst thing in the world and I'm certainly not telling you guys that you absolutely shouldn't, just my take on it. Maybe it just comes down to technological advancements and my sociological adjustment to them. Before twitter and facebook, if I would have bumped into a major recruit at the mall or something that was interested in ND, I would totally be like "Hey, ND is the perfect place.. etc etc etc.." But for some reason, because it's on the internet and permanent, I just can't seem to get comfortable with it.. and I'm really not that old.. 30

They might, but it's probably far less than what ND offers. I made a post awhile ago where I quoted a recent email from our lax coaches as an example of the opportunities we give guys both during school and after graduation. I can dig up more and more examples and PM. It's really remarkable what ND does for their athletes in terms of networking events and job opportunities.

And I actually think it'd be far larger if only looking at football players and excluding NFL salaries.

I emailed it to an employee of the Athletic Department who forwarded it on to ND's Director for Recruiting. Never received any other response.

As I hope my previous posts made clear, I'm not at all comfortable tweeting at high school athletes. I felt this situation was justified because it seemed obvious that (1) Marshall is concerned with the quality of the degree he'll be receiving; and (2) I have hard numbers from neutral 3rd parties to share.

On the comparison between just athletes at different schools regarding post-graduation jobs: Big football powers do have large alumni booster nets which will ensure employment OF SOME KIND, but over one's lifetime the individual must have actually gotten a decent education if that initial job is going to be worth much. No employer can carry an undereducated employee at a high salary and certainly not promote him.

I will bet that initial employment rates between schools are pretty close for their athletes, but that the employment trajectory of their lives is even more markedly different than that of ordinary students.

Just like the body, the mind exercises best when it is young. During the school years it is much more likely that a powerful foundation for knowledge, mental discipline, ability to connect and synthesize creatively, multidisciplinarity, wisdom of problem-solving and evaluatory methods, and ability to continue to include values in one's solutions is forged. Thinking that one can just catch up later isn't completely impossible, but it is far more difficult than getting it when you are young.

I will bet that Notre Dame athletes show a job/profession associated curve of increased success [on any criterion] that soars out of the graph compared to the average for schools like Georgia.

Isaiah Crowell - 172 Carries, 832 Yards, 4.8 Average, 5 TDs
Carlton Thomas - 59 Carries, 327 Yards, 5.5 Average, 2 TDs

Total - 231 Carries 1159 Yards, 5.15 Average, 7 TDs


Sidenote: Georgia has had 12 different players rush the ball and still only have 15 total rushing TDs.


Coach Kelly is putting his money where his mouth is that he can make superstars out of his RBs with his "pass-happy" offense.

This would be no different if not better if Mahone and Marshall were doing this with their talent.
