I'll bet the whispering has already started on ND's recruits...

I think it will all depend on what ND is "selling". If they're selling NC appearances, we could definitely lose some recruits, but if they're selling great football, and the "chance" to get there in the next couple years...... we hold serve.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

I agree SoInIrishFan, I don't think any of these recruits expected us to win every game this year, b/c I don't think that is what has been sold to them. I think they see the same things we do, the improvement from week to week, and if I am them I am thinking, "man, what will this staff be able to do w/ me and some of these other big time recruits on their team!" Don't get me wrong, we need to keep doing what we are doing, and start winning some of these close one's, but I am not worried about our recruits at all......(at this point)

Umm, I didn't say that we would lose anyone, all I said was I bet people are whispering in their ears.

I know what you were saying mgriff, and you are right, but I think even if we were 3-0 and won by 40 every game, "they" would find something to whisper to our recruits, that's what all of "them" do.

True, they do, but I would bet that us losing two games has a bigger potential for it to have an effect.

I have thought about this and believe that unless these kids are downright stupid two last second loses against two teams that have looked pretty good so far should hardly have an effect... losing to Stanford should not have an effect... but having another season where there is no real growth and nothing really to build on would indeed impact each of these kids... it would have to..

good news is the D is not playing where it needs to but is in fact playing much more soundly and the O line has done a 180... there are things to hang the hat on even at 1-2...

I agree with everything you said, but they are 18 year old kids, so while not downright stupid, the demographic, overall, is not really known for making the best decisions. ;)

Not sure, but by demographic, I think he meant this age group (not race, socioeconomic status, etc.)

Ok, the whispering in the ears hasn't stop and it won't stop. I can't be around Aaron 24 hours of the day. Its amazing the people that haven't respected Aarons decision, and that continue to keep trying him and me, because what they don't get is when they try him, they are trying me also. That **** only happens when I'm not around. Look, it's not been easy some days, because Aaron is young and he does have a tendousy at times to let what people say get in his head too much, This is all about Aaron and what he wants, and as I have told him numerous times and will continue to tell him is to follow his heart. I will back my son up a 100%. This is his decision and nobody elses, so I told him this.......Time to stand up and be a man, be honest to yourself and if you feel as if you have to tell someone to get off your ***, then do it. You can be nice about it, but sometimes people are IGNORANT. One example, how hard academically it will be for him....I told him the next person who says it to you, ask them

As are we... That's what makes a great ND man. Strong body is terrific, but a strong mind which is able to see through the fluff and bull**** that people try and feed you on a daily basis.... THAT IS A NOTRE DAME MAN! Stand your ground, Aaron...defend your position, but in the end, it all comes down to envy and hatred against us. You are a ND man for a reason...You've seen the light as has mom. We're proud to call you one of us now. Keep on plugging away....can't wait to get you to Mecca. :)

Go Irish!!!

Notre Dame has a 99% student-athlete graduation success rate. Aaron will get his degree.

Yea, when I said demographic, I meant 18 year olds. That wasn't a dig at any of our recruits, and I sure as hell know I didn't make the best decisions for my future when I was 18, and I had very positive influences. So I'm included in that comment. ND does recruit higher quality young men, so obviously there is less of a chance, but kids don't always do what is right for their future. They're fickle.

When I was getting out of high school, I was being recruited on a MUCH lower level than these guys (regional, hockey, D3/ non-powerhouse D1) but still... it's not always a fun process. But you do have to grow up, learn how to turn on your bull**** radar and, finally, learn how to make a choice that you believe in and that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Hockey didn't work out as well for me as I would've liked (freshman year was my best) but even when I was ready to kill the coach...I knew that life was about more than hockey and, even knowing how things (didn't) work out, I would still have made the same decision again and again.

So when I read about these recruits, who have to deal with 1000 times more pressure than I did, I find myself wishing one thing for them and one thing for both them and myself. For them: I hope that they mature and gain confidence from the process. A lot of times, it's the first real life-changing decision these young men have to make, and if they take it seriously they can learn a lot from the process. For both of us: I hope they come to Notre Dame. Especially the hard working ones. I want them at ND because I love me some Fighting Irish Football. But the real reason I respect ND, and think it is a special place, is because it aces the knee test: what happens to you if you blow out your knee and (sport of choice) doesn't work out? A lot of schools offer good academics, but few care so much about the academic performance and growth of their student-athletes as ND. And, by the way, it does happen to have pretty damn good football.

So I have no doubt that nothing that happens this season will change any of that appeal, as long as the team continues to grow and keeps leaving their hearts out on the field. But I can't get the image out of my head of Sneaky Pete (and I know, he's gone) whispering sweet sweet nothings into his cellphone every time we lose.

Imagine pickup Williams as well, that could give us the best DE trio in that nation in 2-3 years, especially with them pushing each other to be better. WOW

Williams is not being recruited as a DE by anyone in his top 3 I believe. ND is recruiting him as OLB.

Williams is in fact being recruited for an OLB. If NOtre Dame offers a Weakside DE, its to be an OLB in the 3-4
