Good for him to get his degree, but he provided very little for the football program.
Let's not forget his outstanding leadership which lead to four promising underclassmen getting arrested.

Max's biggest accomplishment is that he's in a battle for biggest bust (most overrated recruit) of the Kelly era, with Ishaq Williams, and maybe Gunner Kiel and Aaron Lynch, if you look at just what they did while at ND.
Its funny to consider that our football team, last year, would've been better off, having recruited 2 3 star S's, instead of Max during the 2013 cycle.

What this football team needs, is substantially less, Max Redfields of the world.
Yea, pretty big bust, he was a 5 star S, and #41st rated player in the country (per composite), who will end his career with, only two seasons of average productivity. He had 143 tkls, 2 INT's, 2.5 TFL's. Last 2 seasons.
For comparison sake, Harrison Smith had 180 tackles, 3.5 TFL's, and 7 INT's in his last two years. Composite has him at #229.
In all honesty, its more about the time he missed because he's a knucklehead, than his god given talent. But why do I care about his god given talent. For this conversation, I care about what he produced for ND, and what he did, wasn't very much. Lastly, if we had even a half way decent S behind him, he wouldn't have had those numbers, because he'd be on the bench. He just really isn't a very good football player. Had moments, but moments don't win games.
...
In an official statement, Defense Attorney Randy Fisher says Redfield will serve one year probation and is required to submit a standard substance abuse evaluation. He already checked himself into a rehab program in his home state, California, back in January.
...
"Mr. Redfield will continue to volunteer his time regularly to charitable organizations and mentor middle and high school students on the importance of higher education and living a responsible lifestyle," Fisher said.
"The two classes I'm taking right now will finish my Bachelor's degree and will give me the opportunity to be a graduate transfer," Redfield said. "But if Notre Dame doesn't honor that, honor my degree, I can't be a graduate transfer so I can't even compete for scholarship programs this next season. It's a sticky situation and I'm waiting on Notre Dame to see what they do."
...
ND obviously can't comment publicly on the academic progress because of federal law. Redfield apparently has credits earned elsewhere that he is trying to transfer to his ND transcript which would qualify him to graduate on his timetable if accepted.
I'm curious why if Redfield academically eligible, and claims to be in the best shape of his career he would not fight to play for ND. Does he feel he was thrown under the bus by the Adminstration and/Kelly for an offense he thinks he isn't "much of a substance abuse problem" but "more of a decision making deficiency"? He could have been expelled.
I though he was supposed to be a successful student yet did ND Graduate school not stamp their imprimatur on a position of definite need? Is it character and not academics ... or both?
Probably best for all involved that he not return to Notre Dame's football program. But if Redfield is really that close to his degree and has transferable credits, ND should probably take the high road here, let him graduate and move on to play somewhere else next year.

could not agree more. Imagine a few years down the road, marijuana legalized, ESPN, recalling a mean spirited ND not letting a "good" student only a few credit hours short of a degree graduate because of weed.
Yea...I mean if what he is transferring in are gen eds, or on the fringe of his core degree...who cares. I can see a department head having a tough time if he tried to transfer a core degree course in, and maybe force him to change his major...but I don't think Max Graduating from ND is a bridge too far...and is indeed the best thing for all...because the last impact we need is for his conduct to hit ND on the Grad rate numbers...wouldn't that just be the cherry.
The transfer department literally reviews course descriptions and syllabi to make sure a class to be transferred is a close substitute for one at ND.
For the record this is a pretty standard process...
For the record, it's still a bitch.
Good to know though. My point still stands that he's going to be at the mercy of a department head who probably gives zero shits about foozball.
So going to one of these. Thank you!
So...it's in Pennsylvania? I thought it was in Indiana

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Redfield said. “It’s an incredible feeling to be somewhere where I feel comfortable, where I can trust the coaches I’m playing for. This is an environment I’m comfortable in.”
He then plans to seek readmission to Notre Dame so that he can receive his degree.

Article is a couple weeks old by now, but a few interesting tidbits:
Having played for bvg for a numbers of years, I cant fault him for saying the bolded.
I wish him well the rest of the season though.
