Jesus Wilson will probably give ND fits because of course a guy named Jesus would do that.
Honestly, I feel like ND really can't lose here as far as the long term goes...
if they get beat handily then nothing really changes perception wise (looking around, many 'experts' and the nation in general still does not take ND seriously in any way, shape or form)... if that happens, just keep moving forward.
if they lose close, then they are still within playoff striking distance...
obviously, a win and statement is made.
Anyway, i watched the game at my father's house with a good friend who hates ND (this person is still a good friend today, and he still hates ND).
I was 20 at the time, and as Acamp said previously, the hype leading up to the game was epic. The Charlie Ward-led offense was annihilating every team they played, I believe FSU was averging 48pts/GM going into the game in South Bend. The saturday before the FSU game, I got my first tattoo, the ND leprechaun on my back. (still didnt show my father for 2 years that I had a tattoo, lol).
Anyway, i watched the game at my father's house with a good friend who hates ND (this person is still a good friend today, and he still hates ND). I was decked out in anything and everything I had that was ND, plus my new (at the time) tattoo, I thought I had all bases covered.
So from reading the last few pages, some of the people who were worried about losing to UNC, Syracuse, etc. think FSU isn't that good and we will win. Pass it this way.
Well, I was and am one of the one's who thought we should be able to handle UNC easily. After listening to BK in the after game presser, he seemed genuinely worried about what UNC was capable of offensively and, when asked, he emphatically said that FSU was a completely different animal from UNC, but he seemed less concerned about FSU IMO based on his reaction. He said UNC was a BAD matchup for ND and he did have genuine concerns, which were obviously realized.
Despite the final scores I thought we were much better than UNC, Syracuse and Stanford. Despite a lot of mental mistakes, we still beat them. FSU is a different animal and is more talented than us at most positions on the field. Considering this is a hyped night game with an opponent everyone loves to hate, I don't see FSU coming out flat.
Only way we win IMO is if Golson and Jaylon are the two best players on the field and we make a couple plays on special teams. I don't see us holding them to less than 30 and I'd be surprised if we score more than 27. I've been optimistic since about Week 3 but I just think our defense is going to get shredded. I don't think we can generate a consistent pass rush or establish a running game and that's the key to winning games like these.
Obviously hope I'm wrong.
Since the rumor thread has been hijacked and is a waste of time now I thought I would post this here to see what others may have heard or know. Talked to someone today and he said 3 are gone and 2 can come back but didn't stipulate which 2. Also said all five are going to the FSU game since the investigation is fully complete although obviously none are able to play (this is why I chose to post it in this thread). I don't have many sources like a lot of posters here but this guy was spot on about Diaco leaving and how we would proceed with new OC and DC so he has been credible. Anyone else hear something similar?
